I feel like GW lost out on sales by the price increase.. I would own CSM and DA codex if they werent $50.00. Im dreading the day that Grey Knights and SM get a new book.
That being said they are pretty books, and the art work inside is mostly stuff i've already seen. The price hike was just too much for me.

I really like it. I bought the Codex and had a quick look through it and I am very impressed. I mostly play fantasy and have quite a few of the hardback books for them but these 40k ones are a step above those. Sure you pay a premium for it and the cost went up a bit too much, but they are quality.

If you're really into reading the fluff, the new codices are great. If all you want is the rules, they're a major ripoff.
I don't want the book to have color pictures. In fact, the less pictures and fluff, the better. They could remove 2/3 of most codices and I wouldn't even notice.

I don't like the new style. The reference is nice but I just prefer reading in full. I aslo don't like the full colour. I think the art work looks better in monochrome, with particular exceptions.
Also, the new paper feels wierd.
The blank artwork pages on the inside cover is also annoying.
There is less pics of minis in mid-battle scenes :(
I don't like "Armouries" I prefer the 5th ed Style of each unit having its stuff on its entry. None of this "Turn to page X" crap.
And finally, unique wargear is nice but unneeded. Chapter Relics and Chaos Artefacts. :( Automatically Appended Next Post: The outside covers are genuinely superior in terms of layout, look, artwork and hardback.

I don't like the new style of Codex. I used to buy them all for reference, but the price is just too high now. I don't think there really is any need for a full-colour codex, and the hardback annoys me to be fair - I like to keep my codexes in the case with the army that it goes with, but they no longer fit.
I wouldn't mind the full colour and fluff etc, it it was all new, but i've been playing this game for over 20 years, and i've already got/read half of what's in there.
The new versions just seem a bit of a waste of money for what they are IMO.

Want to get really mad? Flip over your codex and tell me where its made

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

Yea for me while it looks really nice the cost kills me.
It really dampens the fun of starting a new army when you have to spend $40 dollars on a book.
Oh well. I'm not a gw hater.

I like the new format and the color illustrations. Would like a bit more info about the succesors or other warbands but they never really give you much with those. have multiple reference tables for rules and wargear is pretty nice too. plus with the hard back covers thay can be used as body armor if you FLGS happens to be in a dangerous area. Like our new Gamesworkshop in this area.

Give it time, every GW gamer becomes bitter and hatefilled towards the company. Tends to happen when they screw your current project into the ground. Or when you start to pay attention to their habits.

I really like the new hardbacks and while they are expensive im not too put out to buy a $50 book that will likely last me 5 years. The new artwork is great and both dark angels and chaos has loads of new full spreads that are really great to look at in color. And like what was said above the reference section in the back is brilliant. Having said all of that I definitely wont be buying the codexes for armies I don't play anymore.

I guess the people pirating those, there is much more understanding for them around vs 5th edition times.
As for the books, the artwork is more grimdark in black and white.

How could I look away?
