Wrapped up some hills I was working on.

Finished some ruins / a fancy hill,



a set of trees,



and have another ruins/hill set in progress.

Finished up that last previous ruin, so here's a shot of some of those items together.



Also wrapped up all of the trolls I was working on.



And an old Heartbreaker Undead Lord that I got from ZN Games back in the day.



I decided to work on some old lead and started on this classic piece from the Realms of Chaos: SLAMBO!!!! Just base coated so far, but shouldn't take too long to wrap up.



We're working on selling our house, so hopefully that can go smoothly and I can end up with a better hobby space. We shall see!

Been pretty busy, but we got the house on the market finally. No bites yet so we will just have to keep playing the waiting game.

Meanwhile at work things have been slow, so I've had a chance to go through some tutorials in Solidworks and decided that a shipping container would be a good exercise. My only previous experience with 3d modeling is SketchUp, so it's taken some work to get used to they way Solidworks functions, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. SketchUp seems like it will still be handy for mocking up quick plans to see how certain shapes relate to each other.

I made a small one that is 1.5" wide, 1.75" tall and 2.0" deep.



Then I made a longer one that was 4.0" long.



They're designed to be stackable.



I mocked up some proxy pieces on my paper cutter to get an idea how they would relate to minis. They might be on the small side for current generation of 40K minis, but they should be fine for Infinity and might work for 15mm games as well.

Made more progress on Slambo and was about to finish it when I realized I'd botched the clear coat. I used a brush on gloss and ended up with lots of bubles on the underside of edges and in corners. You can't really see it in the pictures but it was really annoying me. I worked on appying more gloss and that was working a little, but then one of my kids accidentally knocked him on the floor and chipped some of the edges. I might just strip it and start over.

So I decided to just start something new instead of thinking about it too much for now. Got a base coat on Morlock Soul Reaper at least. Shouldn't take too much effort to finish. Going for the same base colors as Slambo just in different locations. I might paint them all up this way.

Efforts to salvage Slambo's varnish failed. For now I won't strip him since he looks okay at tabletop level, but I'm extremely annoyed by how bad it looks close up.

Whoa, those are some colorful Chaos warriors! Very different from mine, but quite cool nonetheless.

I have been playing around with foamboard recently, so your stuff is inspirational for me.

Thanks! I wanted something bright and to an extent silly as a reminder of styles I'd seen in some classic Chaos paint schemes.

When working with pen and foam, make sure you always use black ink. I used blue for some of my earlier stuff and the ink bled though eventually even though I'd base coated it black.

AND wrapped up a Dark Elf Sorceress I've had semi-complete for about a decade.


I also had an unexpected guest at my painting table. At first I let it be, but my daughter came down and got freaked out and wanted me to kill it. So I captured it in a cup and released it outside. When I was putting a spray varnish coat on some of these minis I realized that there were cobwebs on them and then had to rush to clean them off before all of the varnish dried. Quite frustrating.

I love the lavender Chaos Warrior. He reminds me of all the weird, wonderful stuff the 'eavy Metal guys used to churn out.

For these guys I used the same four base colors and rotated them for different parts (armor, horns, cloth, hair, etc), so now I need to figure out what I'm going to do for the other 9 or so I have. I don't want to just keep rotating the same colors, so I'm thinking I'll try another four. I want to keep them bright and wacky.

I love seeing the old models and the old paint pots still in action.

I'm not seeing any yellow or orange, so that's an option. Another might be pastel versions of the various Chaos powers? Whatever you choose, I can't wait to see it.

Here's the gang so far. I might give some pastels a shot next, or do some god-specific schemes. With these four I wanted to keep them as undivided as possible.

That's a nifty little group of models. I was just looking for inspiration my old RoC books, and these guys would fit right in.

Selling a house, living with your mother-in-law for a month, buying a house, all while traveling for work can take it's toll on hobby time.

BUT I'M BACK!!!!

I actually got back to my FLGS last night and got a game of Guildball in. Lost, but I forgot most of the rules, so I considered it a good learning exercise.



Shadespire seems like it might be a good fit for my limited hobby time and if it takes off hopefully I can get some games in while on the road. Well payed, Games Workshop. You got me to purchase and assemble Stormcast Eternals...

Was toying around with making some boards for Shadespire out of foam, but I don't really like my first prototype.





I'll come back to the idea after working on the minis some more. Thanks to Stranger Things 2 I've been able to keep my butt in front of my painting station and have finished the basecoats for the Stormcasts. Hope to wrap the the highlights in about another week, but no pictures of that yet.

While I'm not a fan of the models themselves, your paintjobs really make those Stormcast guys look sharp.

Thanks, Josh. While I hate what they represent (GW blowing up the Old World) I'm really enjoying painting them. That being said, I think a whole army of them would be very boring to paint.

Since the weather is very fall-like now I needed a solution to get some more Shadespire priming done and I was fortunate that our facilities guy didn't have a problem with me using our shop's paint booth. A bit overkill for a sprue of minis, but it works!



I also had an idea for making some Infinity buildings out of layers of cardstock, so I put together a test. Not sure if I'll run with it, or if I just needed to get it out of my system. The roof definitely still needs work.

Still plugging away at things.

The prime coat on the Shadespire figs turned out to be horrible for some reason. I chose to just soldier on and paint them since I really don't care about these guys too much.



I got to play a game of Shadespire. It was fun, but we were both still learning the rules and had Stormcast warbands.



Since I found cutting out the hexs to be really tedious I opted to try and make some punches in Solidworks and had them 3d printed at the library. They're working out okay so far, but I still have to tweak things.




A buddy of mine dropped off a ton of Dungeon Saga stuff and said I could have it...so that might keep me busy this year.



For some reason I wanted to give some quick sloppy paint styles a shot so I worked on some old goblins and a bowman. I had fun painting them and getting quick results so hopefully I can just get some things wrapped up by focusing on quantity rather than quality. The trick is: prime brown.

Has not been a very productive year so far, but after working on finishing my basement and coming back from three weeks on the road for work I decided to continue dabbling with 3d printing. I got a free low-end printer from a guy at work and was toying around with Solidworks again. Printed out a few things, but the print quality really leaves a lot to be desired. I'd love to get a better printer, but till I can afford close to $1,000 for what I'd like I'll just keep toying around with what I have.

Not a ton of activity lately, but the terrain bug hit.
