Ew, alternating terrain. Only guy I've ever played using that rule was very clearly on the autistic spectrum. Horribly unenjoyable game btw

7th edition 40k is a lot like BDSM these days. Only play with people you know and develop a safe word for when things get too intense. And It doesn't hurt to be a sadist or masochist as well.

Thats a rather off topic question. The farsight enclave is a codex and the rules for it are found in a codex. it is totally different from the special additional rules that are found in the supplements like escalation and the stronghold books. it may be that you have the wrong thread as this one is about fortifications in pre-set terrain tournaments.

That would depend on how much of it is physically "covered".

The ability to remove any piece of terrain from your deployment zone that you dont like or the ability to move any piece of terrain in your deployment zone to where you wat it is FAR too easily abused. You would see more and more players taking large and larger fortifications for the sole purpose of doing this. it simply gives you too much of an advantage.

As terrain is not moved for judging models, Thier display boards that they bring them in on and display them for judging before the game means that the actual gaming tables arent touched. if the TO is shortsighted enough to not ask for them to bring in thier display boards, it is done after the tourney is over and te tables are being cleaned up and put away anyway.

This is why most TO do as i described. It is the fairest way to handle it for everyone and prevents a whole type of cheating.
of course, there ARE TO who run it in different ways. those are few and far between and then you hear a lot of grumbling from players and an ever increasing number of players bringing the largest fortifications they can afford to buy.

Your kidding yourself if you think terrain doesn't get moved when players use their display board. Not all venues have space for side tables, particularly monthly tournaments at the FLGS that I run off my laptop and Excel. Especially after the first round, armies are generally left on the last table played on before the subsequent round and then shuffled.

I've also been running this system since 6th Edition and foritifcations came out. We haven't had any grumbling about the system and tournament attendance has gone up. We also haven't seen fortifcation size escalation. If anything, the number of fortifications has gone down but I haven't run an event with Stronghold Assault yet so we'll see what that impact will be.

As for cheating, its literally a one for one removal. You pick up a forest in your deployment zone and replace it with your fortification. I really don't see how it can be abused in the way your saying. You can't move terrain or adjust. You simply remove one piece of terrain and in the same spot replace it with your fortification.

Actually, I'm not kidding myself at all. that is why the disply boards are set up in different areas of the shop away from the actual gaming tables for judging to prevent just that from happening.
in terms of something getting nudged by an accidental arm sweep, it is far easier to "dudge" it back into place than it is to try to remember from memory 90+ minutes later when it has been totally removed and negates people placeing back 'where it was" 12 inches to the left on purpose.
Feel free to play in tournaments that let you move the terrain about. More power to you if you like that and are able to find one of the few places where the TO allows it. I'll stick wit the majority of tournaments where that avenue of cheating is not allowed. Not to say that YOU cheat so dont take it the wrong way, just that that system allows for it to run rampant on a whole new level from what you would normally see in a tournament.

Just re-read your post and it looks like you might be starting tourneys in your area as a TO. Good luck. You'll find that having tourneys can bing players and customers in fron a larger area than you would normally see them come from. The problem we have locally is the "ringers". those who never come to the shop or spend a dime there but every weekend go to a different shop in the regon with their "pro' lists sucking up the prizes away from your locals who actually spend their money to support you and keep your doors open.
if you find space to be at a premium, you can always just walk about during the tourneys to check out the armies' in use and then clear tables for "final judging" after the end of the last game. youll' find that this keeps players around (often spending more $) longer after the tourney. You will also fnd that having the players not move stuff about will actually draw more players to your tournaments anddo away with a lot of arguments that would arise otherwise.
Although, if you are the TO, you can run it however you want. have them set the tables up themselves, pre set the tables, have the players stand on thier heads before each game, its totally up to you. If you have a system that works for you perfectly, go ahead and use it. The rest of the TOs have come up with the system I described as them using and it works fin for them so they are free to use theirs. Were you more local, I'play in a tourne just to see firsthand how it works for you.
