I have been messing around with my own chapter quite a bit recently and I have found the most effective method, for me anyhow, is just to go for one primary colour and one secondary colour with separate metallics. Some characters can have swap round the two colours to make them stand out, and a third colour (normally white or black) can be used as well.

I'm sure everyone else is anticipating some pictures of these camo marines!

My DIY Chapter ?Jade Legion? was a successor chapter to Raven Guard; I choose them originally because not many people had paid them much mind back then. Then I came up with the concept that they had turned from their progenitor chapter?s ideas and became a static shooting army.

That idea came from finding out that the Raven Guard had been messing with their gene-seed to increase the rate of a marines? development, which in turn nearly destroyed the chapter. So my successor chapter decided it was better to stand back and think things through (and blow them up) instead of rushing in for quick victories.

I find background the easiest place to find inspiration for any 40k project. Love the idea of camouflaged power armour can't wait to see them.

I got a set of tac. SM and some Termie bits which Im turning into an Epistolary Lib. as HQ choice. haven't even based them yet - so far i have built 4 SM and a SRG. Wanted to make my own Chapter too...
