Damn... these gorgeous photos make me regret never finishing my Orks. Time to remedy that!

Anyone ever tried making a planet or half planet model for the centre of the board? Honestly even just getting a little globe and painting some bogus continents on it would work

Possibly even paint half of it black to show the sun board edge for Eldar. And then you could have the burning fires of a million battles shining through...

I think that I remember that it was a loss, but only a narrow one. The Alugura managed an awesome comeback move by geting between three slaughters and hulking two with broadsides. That ignited my love affair with, and my enemies hate of, the Dauntless class.

A Dauntless with strength 4 weapon batteries per side hulking Slaughters?

Yeah. They already had a few hits done to each of them but it was definitely a good set of rolling.

Edit: I've been trying to work out exactly what happened. I think that I took some shields down with other ships, or the whole area was so full of blasts that some shields were down. Then I bulkhead collapsed one and hurt the other, causing one of them to explode and killing the other one. The Dauntless survived though.

I ordered a 8 inch styrofoam ball to make into a sun since I have an Eldar Void Stalker that I take as a mercenary with my Tau fleet for large battles. So I might take your advice for the board.

how can you be so sure, when most of your ships are not painted (at least the ones you posted), just primed? (assuming you meant "paint" and not "pain", the latter would be kinda disturbing lol)

Well painting can be a pain...lol. But I am starting my tau fleet this evening. Got another Protector in and 2 Castellans. Going deep red for base color. Very Farsight-y. I'll post up when done and everyone can boo-hiss together...

The tribune feels like someone took a nice looking ship and squished it... it bugs me. As does the droopy butt on the iron blood. But there's no pleasing everyone, and really I'm glad they're still putting out unique art for bfg ships even though it's only for fluff... I like the Contrador though.

I dunno if it'd dwarf a blackstone but it's definitely comprable.

You asked earlier what kind of ships I had, I've got something like 1 BB, 1 grandcruiser, 1-2 battlecruisers, 8ish cruisers, 2 light cruisers, 10ish frigates of various types, and 6+ destroyers

I have enough for 2 fleets but it's more a lack of interest in my area for fleet type games. It really doesn't help that the game is fully discontinued now as well. That's why I'm jumped into firestorm armada, it's fresh and reasonably priced. When I finally get around to painting my fleets, I will be hosting demos as well to try to gain some local support.

I will keep my BFG stuff for when I get together with my 2 other friends who play it though. And as I get them painted, because I'm a bum and haven't painted them all yet, I'll share them here too.

Yes it would grossly dwarf a BFG Blackstone...

Hmmm... "All ships shown at constant scale."

Scaling the Cobra in the image up to its BFG length of 1.25" makes the battle barge 7.25" long (2 1/8" longer than the BFG model) and makes the Iron Blood 16" long! Scaling up to real life at 1:56,000 gives a length of 24,086 meters or just over 24 kms. Seems a mite large for both ships...

If we scale the image to the length of a BFG battle barge (5.125"), the Iron Blood drops to 11.375", making it 16,333 meters (16 1/3 kms). Better...

Looks to me like the Tribune is basically a Vengeance class grand cruiser. The upper rear hull is a badly drawn version of the Vengeance rear hull and the prow is a slightly modified version of the Vengeance class prow. Remove the spacer/tower between the Vengeance weapons bays and you are pretty close to the Tribune. Replace the upper Chaos style weapons bays with whatever all that stuff is on the upper hull and add some weapons batteries to the bottom of the hull and you are pretty much there.

Contrador text

"The Contrador
Battle Barge of the Iron Warriors

At the Battle of Phall, the "Legatus" class battle barge Contrador was commanded by the Iron Warriors war leader Erasmus(?) Colg, who was the commander of the Legion's 11th company. Typical of the warships of the Iron Warriors grand fleet, the Contrador's already formidable armor and weapons were heavily enhanced over many decades of service. What she sacrificed in speed and maneuverability she more than gained in raw strength, as befitting the bellicose and stoic nature of the Iron Warriors themselves. Despite her extensive modifications, the Contrador conformed to a pattern that was coming into use throughout the war fleets of the Legiones Astartes at the time of the Battle of Phall and which would become a familiar class of battle barge in the coming years."

So roughly the same size as the current battle barge kit.

Tim

Anyone know which PDF had the rules for Daemonships? I had to 'fix' some chaos cruisers with green stuff, so just made tentacles for giggles...

I love the Iron Blood. It looks like someone took the design for an infantry weapon, made it really big, and turned it into a spaceship. Also the fact I could totally see it being a pirate ship in EVE Online helps too...

Check any/all Dollar Tree store locations in your area as selections will vary. Foam spheres, blocks, rings etc. have i found there. Also some great plastic gems for Necrons et al! You won't know which will be your crafter's gold mine untill you check them out. For ~$25 to $50 you can get a haul that would run ~$80 to $200 at other stores!

I've been slacking on BFG. Haven't played any fleet battles in a while.

On a side note, I been getting into Tyranids lately, so maybe time to build/assimilate a Tyranid fleet?
