DAT VEHICLE PILE. Damn, that's some fine work!

I happen to have a wing of three scratchbuilt Thunderbolts that I'm not using these days. It would be interesting to get them into the hands of a frequent 40K player and see them hitthe table at Adepticon or something.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

You need four for the squadron. Just sayin'. The few times I played them at Apoc, well, much fun, even in their unfinished state. Inasmuch as anything about Apoc was fun. <shudder> I think, no, I know, that I had more fun putzing around building the vehicles than I ever had using them. Not sure what that says about me.

How about a little more Fantasy, since I have the photos. Sure. The Watchtower. From a scenario in an old White Dwarf. Built with paper and a paint stirrer, and some matte board(?) - the thick stuff used for mounting photos.

This is not so Infinity friendly, or so it may seem, for those who have an inordinate fear of snipers. The time it made it onto the Infinity table, a Lasiq Sniper moved into it,thinking 'happy days are here again' and promptly got itself combat camoed by a Prowler with ADHL. Lol. Spent then game glued to a wall.

I should have a few free hobby hours this week-end. So, maybe some WIPs? I hope things warm up enough soon, so I can do some water effects. I don't like mixing the stuff indoors ( I use a two part epxoy called Superglaze). And it doesn't cure well when things are cold.

Thanks for stopping by.

Not where I should be

Tower looks brilliant, for idea's for others. Replace wood with iron sheeting or ceramite armour and boom 40k watchtower, bit more glass, and it's a control tower on an airfield.

Great stuff, inspirational all round.

Hmmm, I wasn't going to do anything to the towers already shown, except replace the flagpole that was at the top of the watchtower. But I have these things, and I've been wondering how to convert them to Infinity terrain. It was a castle. And yes, we had fun storming it.

Lots of 'glass' might be the way to go with them. Paint them to look more like granite, which is a common facing material these days. Something to think about, get an interesting urban feel that way. Thanks for the idea.

Any more terrain your going to dig up? or should I just buy a chinstrap to stop my jaw hitting the floor every time you post.

Its nice to see such varied and skillfully made terrain.

I really, really like that bridge and river.

Beyond the Beltway

I'm just posting images of the good stuff. There is mediocre stuff too. (a smallish amount, the original bunker and building I did for 2nd ed 40k) The bridge was alwys a favorite of mine too. Inspired by a Warhammer skirmish table I saw at Games Day Baltimore in 2002 (or 2003?) for a scenario called 'troll under the bridge'. I have another WHFB bridge, and a WH40k bridge too.

For the asphalt I used a foam sheet that I found at a local crafts store. Odd stuff-- Creatology soft foam sheet or something it's called. But it does a nice job of lookiing like asphalt without being rough like a textured piece ( sand or whatnot). Here is a road section of it.

Although it could use a bit of work...potholes, cracks, a line down the middle...

And then there is modular stuff, which I like doing.

Lots of variability to this. Sadly, when 3rd ed came out, it became less useful. So I started the Fantasy stuff.

I'll take some photos of the rest of the river and road soon enough. And a few other natural feature terrain pieces.

Double posted! Woo-Hoo.Take that automatically appended next post function. Ha!

So a bit of swamp/marsh

and a bit of rugged terrain

And yeah, I've built a few gray gothic ruins. I'm not proud about it though. At least I made them nice and clean

More to come. Thanks for stopping by.

Excellent stuff, your water work is top notch.

And there is always room for Gothic rubble, in any era of play. Because at some point someone thought, "got to have me a Gothic Castle!" and someone will obviously blow it up at the first opportunity.

Again some glass paneling and it would look like one of those fancy smancy restaurants.

Thanks guys.

The trick I found to create water that is on such a shallow platform is to make a very shallow indentation by gluing sand and gravel on the edges, paint it up and then pour in ~1mm of gloss water based polyurethane, like you would use to finish furniture. Then cover it so you don't have dust settling in. Give it a day to dry.

If you texture the indentation before painting, the irregularity of the suface will be reflected in the surface of the water. A really nice effect.

I used 1/8" for the swamp pieces shown above. And nylon bristles from an old toothbrush for the weeds. Looks like some of the paint has finally worn off of some.

Love the ruins, especailly the woodwork inside and the tiles on the roof of the last one.

Is the grass drybrushed?

The swamp terrain is really nice, certainly not something I've seen in a long time. really nice

Thanks guys.

The tiles on the roof are a piece from the Old Mordheim plastic spruce. Credit where due. Mordheim had some really cool stuff. The woodwork is scratch though.

The grass is toothbrush bristles or bristles from a pool cleaning brush, primed with gesso, drybrushed (heavily) with kelly green, hit with a dark green wash, light drybrush with yellow.

The swamps were fun to make.

Hmmm, looks like I might be running out of pictures. Time to take more.

...And here they are. The river pieces:

and the road pieces:

which fit with the one bridge above. Never did make a cobblestone road. I need to tidy these up with some yellow lines. Surprisingly they scale well for Infinity. I originally built them wide enough for a Leman Russ.

I'm running low on stuff to show. Means I'll have to start making new stuff. Can't say that's anything but good news

Thanks for stopping by.

Here is a farm that I built some time ago. It too works very well for Infinity, and Malifaux 1.0 when I played it, because of the wide flat and unadorned bases to the building, the openable doors (using popsicle sticks for giant hinges on the large barn has proven to be a wise thing. Man oh man, they are sturdy.) and the interior access.

And with the roofs removed.

And a wishing well. Lost the bucket and rope bits somewhere along the way.

There are resin low stone fence pieces that go with it, but they are not scratch built. I probably should have built a chicken coop too. Ah well. The roof damage occurred during transport to/from a tournament. I think the movers used a cement mixer to transport things :/

Thanks for stopping by.

The farmhouses. Had to custom mix the colors. I'm glad it looks right. A heavy dragbrushing with a housepaint for a primer makes nice wood grain texture. The wood is actually strips of a cheerios box (packet? in the UK?) Thanks.

The Eldar style led indirectly to the sort of buildings I started building for Infinity. I like it too. Thanks. The curvy stuff is an interesting exercise in 3d thinking. Challenges are good.

Well, this will be the last of the blast from the past stuff. I'll start with a few WIPs soon enough. Still hoping I'll be able to get some time to do the terrain contest. Time is tight right now. Hence the trip down memory lane, rather than real work. Well, at least y'all know now I'm no dilettante.

A villa fence. Always a good thing to have.

And yet another tower. If you look at the middle photo you can see some more tournament damage...like somebody ran into the thing with a landraider. I'll fix it someday. But for now, it makes for a fun story.

I think I'll try and finish a quonset hut project I started last year, but never could figure out where to take it. I have a few ideas now.

Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks, gentlemen.

An entire river, big giant hills, but sadly, no scratch built trees worth mentioning. I'll have to remedy that at some point. Should have some free time later this week. Still cleaning up after a nasty windstorm last week.

Yeah the pegs are q-tip shafts. They just keep the pieces together on the table in case off the inevitable bumpings. The walls are low density styrofoam ( I think I cut up some packaging for it) with paper glued on top... homebrew foamcore Lots of drybrushing with thick housepaint to get texture, then a few washes to get the splashed mud effect at the bottom.

These walls still see plenty of use too.
