Then that's your fault for expecting something unrealistic.

No its not unrealistic at all to have expected the wych cult element to be explored in the series.

There are lots of Dark Eldar armies focused around wych troops. The new rules were built with the idea of them being one of the three main armies that you could make if you were looking for a themed army (Cult, Kabal, Coven). They are absolutely as much an aspect of the Dark Eldar as the haemonculi or kabalite aspects. It is perfectly reasonable to assume that they would have done a Path book based on the wych cultists and at the very least that they would have a fairly major part in the story in terms of characters and content. This was not the case. It looked closely at the kabalite and coven armies but really neglected and skimmed over the cult armies even to the point of implying they're indistinguishable from a regular kabal. Whilst the two "Wych" characters (though notice they are called Archons) have very small parts to play in the book and are absent for most of the series. The first book very briefly touches on the gladiatorial arena Xelian uses as a venue to plot and then the subsequent novels don't even do that. Clearly the author wasn't very interested in this aspect of the Dark Eldar and preferred to talk about the wackier stuff like the Mandrakes n Haemonculi.

It is really. Once we got the first book out of the way what would Wyches have done?

Shocking as it may be the lore isn't based around tabletop. They were called Archons BECAUSE THEY WERE ARCHONS. A book about a Wych would have been rather boring. What would they do? Follow orders and fight challenges endlessly. Great story.

You want Stories about Wyches and exploring their society in depth? Here, you *Will* enjoy this. I can 100% Garentee it. There is a predecessor story about Hellions with the main character being a Wych but you will enjoy this one more.

Give it a go if you have the time, sometimes Fan Fics are alot better then the rubbish GamesWorkshop releases.

Wyches are led by succubus who control cults that learn the perfection of fighting. They gain the patronage of archons but they are not expressly part of the various kabals and are led by their own succubi. For example Lelith leads her own cult and is sponsored by Vect but she is not part of the Kabal of the Black Heart and can pursue her own agenda as it suits her so long as it does not break with Vects. This is laid out in the dark eldar codex and is why you can have a complete army of wychs.

Rivalry, vengence, climbing to be the greatest fighter, a django story where they start out as a slave but rise to be the greatest fighter of the arena etc etc. They're gladiators I am pretty sure there are stories you can apply to that concept.

Yes there are stories you can build around that. But not stories you can throw it into.

In my opinion the entire serie about the dark eldar is a great disapointment. The main character is an archon of noble lineage amongst the most powerful elite of Commoragh and he is less articulate than me (in my first language). His plan is doomed from the start for it is basicaly overthrowing a genius tyrant with the help of... another genius tyrant.

His allies are an old archon whose fortune (his only asset) is escaping his grasp and a Succubi/Archon who act and think more like a rabid beast than anything else (she even admit it). In the middle a bothering harlequin who desperatly try to be funny and badass and fail at both.

The only truly enjoyable parts were those with the little «adventurer» group (Morr, Aez'Ashia, Xagor, Karbyr and the renegade). Once they broke up, half of them stay in the story but with no purpose but a bit of padding and plot exposition. The entire apearence of Karbyr in the last book was completly useless. Aez'Ashia is there only for her death scene (wich is ironic considering all the interesting thing that could have been done with her, especially since she had more page time then Xelian and little bit more personnality), Xagor is there has the servant (not needed but ok). Only Morr has the dignity of a plot point that further its story and he dies at the end of the second book in a epic manner I must admit.

Ylithian keeps jerking around after the first book instead of calmly cutting his losses and wait for a new opportunity. The story his interrupted by useless pseudo theatrical narration by Motley and the ending has to be explain to the reader wich is the sign of a terrible book. Malice does in 25 pages what could have been explained in 6. Finally Vect wins for he possess two doomsday weapons and cannot be beaten because of them.

this series should have been only one book with the potential to expend it in a serie like Gaunt Ghost or Ciaphas Cain to explore on the potential future of those 12 or so characters. Comparing it to the Path of the Eldar serie, this one his a complete failure up to its title (their is no such thing has a Path of the Dark Eldar, and those book are not about life path or psychological evolution but a political intrigue. One of the worst recent title in Black Library in my opinion.

I just finished reading the book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I perhaps felt the ending was rushed a bit and it wasn't as good as the first two, but as a series it's been better than most. I loved the character of Motley and Morr.

It really is no surprise that Vect used such destructive weapons, he is Vect, the most ruthless Dark Eldar ever, who thinks nothing of wiping out half of Commorragh to prove he's in charge. Of course the plan was doomed from the start. It's about trying to overthrow Vect, which was never going to happen. The story wasn't about if it was or wasn't going to work but about watching how it was going to fail.

The city of Commorragh has such potential for some fantastic stories, I really hope we get more in the future.

1. Motley is a Solitaire and Solitaires have for the entire history of GW been described as among the best Eldar fighters in existence, which is backed up every time they have been given rules. Therefore Motley's ability to survive or even outfight Dark Eldar is not that far fetched. In Valedor Lelith herself suspects a Harlequin King to be possibly capable of defeating her.

The "Harlequin King" in Valedor was explicitly mentioned as being a "Great Harlequin", and Great Harlequins are superior to solitaires. Also, in a comparable scenario aka the Helbane fight in Phoenix Rising, Lelith attacked the creature first and remained untagged while the solitaire got straight up cut in half after poking it with HQ's kiss. I'd say solitaires aren't all necessary the same level as that ONE solitaire who killed 10 CSMs in an eye blink.
Also, tbf Motely is reather unimpressive by Solitaire standards, though he is a speedy bastard and an enjoyable character.

Lelith has been equaled in CC by a Shining Spear in one Black Library novel (Deathwatch). Shes not that peerless.

Hesperax was mentioned multiple times as the best combatant in Commorragh (besides Drazhar and Kheradruakh, because one is an edgy killer taught by Asurmen (Phoenix Lord's version of Anakin, anyone?), while the other is a straight up monster hiding in the shadows, hence not your everyday combatants), Xelian doesn't have that fluff going on.
Don't get me wrong, Xelian is good but not completely on the former's level, as if that were the case, there WOULD be mentions of it, otherwise the team fight with Helbane basically asserted that Xelian is a bit inferior.

Regarding the Deathwatch BL novel you mentioned though...That book is basically a non canon bs, like wtf? DEs living in the eye of terror and worshipping Slaanesh? Tbf, I don't even think any DE with enough common sense would even try to get the jump on Old Man Eldrad or anything related to him, like, he's one of the most powerful mortal psyker and Yvraine even suggested that he holds a shard of a dead eldar god. So, no, that book was non-canon bs and is basically retconned. Besides, how come Lelith be someone's consort? It was never mentioned in any of her appearance either, cause she's basically a cold-hearted bitch only caring for the next fight (perhaps there's something going on with Vect, but they might just be occasional fuckbuddies).

What's interesting would be Vect's quote regarding Lelith's defection to the Ynnari, I wouldn't be surprised if Vect is pulling the strings in his subtle way, though what's more baffling is that Lelith seemed to act against Vect's will, like, how dare her? Vect is her sponsor and the holds the most power within Commorragh.
All in all, have we seen Malys in any recent stuff from BL? Vect officially decalred himself as a Living Muse after his latest revival, could he be meddling with ruinous powers, or is it just him spewing BS? As if the jerk got REAL lucky and ascended to genuine semi-godhood, then Malys and her Harlequin friends might take some action.

Poetic that it is a Solitare, who play the part of Slaanesh, taking action against a Khorne daemon.

Yeah, besides it was explicitly stated that Motley was indeed a solitaire in another book.
