Maleceptor
A 4 legged beast with two large scything talons
A psyker level 2, synapse monstrous creature that has an invul save of 5+. It has shadows of the warp and a 4+ save.
It has the psychic power psychic overload, which is a 24" focused witchfire. target must take a leadership test on 3d6 and vehicles count as leadership 10, failure causes d3 wounds no armor or cover saves allowed, and a causes a single glancing hit to vehicles, no cover save allowed. The maleceptor can do psychic overload three times a round, but cannot target the same model twice.
It can choose its remaining powers from the powers of the hive mind.

This sounds awefully squishy to me...Unless its hugging a malanthrope/venomthrope it's going to blend faster than a margarita on cinco de mayo.

What would make it and any SITW model boss would be revamping the rules to emulate the Culexus' null bubble...That would push nids to the top tier.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

I'm not sure what the pricing is like in other countries, but in Australia it's $260 for $331 of models. So not a terrible deal money wise, you are basically getting the Tyranid Warriors for free. Unfortunately Tyranid Warriors suck... so.... I guess it might still be good for a new player, but for most players who already have some Tyranid Warriors and probably don't want more, it's not a great deal.

These are the types of names people should expect for Tyranids, dangerous sounding pseudo-scientific names.

Pyrovores, Venomthropes and Tyrannofexes sit at the opposite end of the spectrum, where the stupid Tyranid names sit.

Pseudo-scientific names and synonyms for an angry woman.

All better than Tyrannovores and Pyrofexes and such. Hell, people were joking that the rumored Tyranid transport was going to be called the Transportofex. I was almost convinced the rumor was true on the name alone.

Yeah the rules so far for both of them aren't mega amazing.. the fact they are elite and one gives shrouding and the other seems like a decent psycher means there is potential for both of them to be used in competitive lists. It will really come down to points. They are both going to have to be dirt cheap and given what the Nid codex gave us I don't think we can rely on that sadly :( My reserve hope is some number of stats/rules weren't mentioned and they make them amazing. Otherwise I will stick with my list as is and collect these models because I am basically a addict for nid models.

Ugh, if the power had been WC1 on the Maleceptor, I could have seen it being pretty useful. WC2 means it's going to be pretty difficult to get that power out that much. It's a bit of shame.

WC2 seems fair considering the power, I think. The real bummer is that the thing costs over 200 points. Holy hell is that too much.

I rarely play my nids, but I do not really see these adding anything useful to the army.

Maleceptor is an expensive model in the elites section, that is a shooty walking MC with a 4+/5++. the shooty is psychic based, so has to pass psychic test to pull it off and even then it can at best cause 1 glance to a vehicle, or an average 2 wounds per attack. This of course can be spread around to up to 3 targets if they are all within range. Will the psychic attack require a test for each time it attacks a different target? or 1 test and up to 3 targets? Either way its not adding anything tyranids need, and is going into a slot that is already competing with venomthropes/malanthropes/hiveguard/zoanthropes 2 of which are force multipliers, and 2 of which are better at shooting armor than this thing will be for 200pts.

Toxicrene 12" shooting attack, so this is basically a non factor. The only thing this brings is that it has shrouded, but it cannot join another unit to give it to the unit....so unless it has a rule that lets the shrouded extend to nearby units, why does this thing exist?

neither of these look like they are bringing anything the tyranids needed to improve their overall meta.

Unless there are some other rules for them that are not unveiled yet, I just don't see the point. I guess someone at the studio sculpted some cool looking nid models, and the nid haters got together and came up with rules for them that make them look like they could be good if it weren't for the rules for them.

Well, the Malewhatever says it is a "four legged beast," so maybe 12"?

There are still a lot of details that could see me using these. We'll just have to wait and see. But it's not looking amazing so far. Biggest mistake in my opinion GW made this edition was to not create a unit type "Monstrous Beasts". Basically Monstrous Creatures that move like beasts. That rule applied to various Nids would be huge.

I think the Toxicrene could have some potential, but we'll have to see the full statline and rules.

Unfortunately the Maleceptor/Psychic Overload rumors remind me of the Zoanthrope/Warp Blast experience.

You would think. But remember that the Haruspex is a four legged beast with strong looking hind legs and a melee focus that only moves 6". Anyway I think the Toxicrene is the one we would want moving faster since it only shoots 12".

I agree with whoever suggested a new unit type in "monstrous beasts" above. That would be so nice.

I am cautiously optimistic about what we're getting here. As a popular army which gets a codex every single edition we've sure had more than our fair share of dud rules.

I also really hope this lends credence to the rumored Blood Angels/Tyranids campaign rumors.
