..and are you just using water in that cleaner or something else?

I am using a Isopropanol Cleaner and a Grundig Ultrasonic Cleaner.
Water is NOT doing the trick with Shapeway minis...

Well, my order came in ... this stuff is great!

I've painted up two V-17 torrents I bought, one the low-grade flexible plastic (which oddly feels like paper mache...) and a frosted detail. Not gonna post pics, my painting skills are nowhere near AAN's and they'd do the models a terrible disservice.

I will say that while the "strong and flexible" is serviceable for a game, I'm not getting any more at that level. Ink washes bleed into the plastic as if it were some sort of paper. Also, the plastic "sheds", as if it were covered in lint.

On the other hand, frosted detail looks plenty sharp and useable. Comparing the FD V-17 to the FUD Scimitar bomber I got, I think the frosted detail level is fine for game play.

AAN, did you prime your miniatures before painting? I was worried detail might wash out and painted directly on mine and it worked fine. Was just curious.

It never ends well

I always clean them as decribed above and then prime them either black or white, depending on the ship.

I have a few models from shapeways that I'm going to cast multiples of. Obviously not to sell, because that'd be all kinds of ip infringement, of both the original design, and the 3d sculpt creator, but I'll put the results on here.

I have no fancy schmancy ultrasonic cleaner, but a good scrub with a cotton bud and some hot water seemed to remove most of the grain.

Unfortunately that has NOT worked for me. Most was gone but paint was still soaked up and no real paintjob could be accomplished...

In the end I searched a huge amount of forums and came up with the suggested ultrasonic cleaner solution.

I'll be painting the resin copies, so hopefully shouldn't have an issue.

Originally I worked on more Wargods of Olympus minis! But then the new SW Ep VII trailer hit me and I was 17 again!

Time to finish Prince Xizors Viper, a T-70 X-Wing and a Stealth X.

Prince Xizors Star Viper

Keen observers have noticed the design differences of the Falcon and the X-Wing designs that are shown in the two Episode VII trailers. Even keener modelers have already created X-Wing models for them!
Shown above is the Incom T-70 X-Wing of Episode VII by Mels Minis. The T-70 X-wing fighter was a modern variation of the classic design X-wing starfighter used by the Resistance in their fight against the First Order, 30 years after the Battle of Endor.

One of the most prominent and iconic Fighter of the Legacy Era was the Stealth X! Mel did it again, a FANTASTC model of this little craft.

And as usual a LOT more pics on my website:

Go to shapeways and search for "StealthX (1/270)"...

I ordered Frosted Ultra Detail.

Simply cut brutally and re-glue.

This week it is Boba time!

Slave-1 - the famous ship of the the equally infamous Boba Fett. Another great and highly detailed mini! I could not resist the temptation to also paint the Armada version, which is also very good for it’s tiny size.

That looks really great, the blue shade that was chosen really has a nice "naval" feel.

After Boba I was really in the mood for another Scum and Villainy ship, this time the D-5 Mantis Patrolcraft from SWTOR!

The D5-Mantis Patrol Craft was a rare, top-of-the-line starship during the Cold War. It was meant to meet the demands of larger capital ships.

Built for combat, the rare, compact-framed D5-Mantis was a best-in-class patrol craft, designed to compete with—and meet the demands of—much larger starships, such as Interdictor-class cruisers.

The D5-Mantis Patrol Craft was created as the bounty hunter's class starship for the LucasArts video game Star Wars: The Old Republic. The above model is again a fan made design by Mel’s minis.

Official Fantasy Flight T-70 X-Wing. Repainted as Poe Dameron’s Black One X-Wing.

The Black One was a T-70 X-wing fighter that was used by Resistance pilot Poe Dameron. Dameron's call sign of Black Leader was derived from this X-wing; he was not the leader of a Black Squadron. Dameron was always accompanied by his trusty co-pilot, spherical astromech droid BB-8. Dameron notably used Black One during the Battle of Starkiller Base.

The First Order Stormtrooper Transport is one of the very first vessel in the 7th Star Wars movie. The First Order’s stormtrooper transports – formally known as Atmospheric Assault Landers - AALs – are designed for the speedy delivery of up to 20 stormtroopers to the battlefield for ground operations. A pilot guides the transport to its drop zone from an elevated cockpit, while a gunner protects the no-frills 18m craft during its final approach.

The die cast model is the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens Black Series Titanium First Order Transporter“. It is not exactly 1/270 but fits X-Wing nice enough.

You can use the Transport perfectly for the “Mission 1: Political Escort” of the X-Wing Core Set. Use it as the shuttle and protect it with some TIEs!

I like that idea of using it in a mission and honestly I'm going to borrow it.

would you be ever so kind to post a photo of it on it's base? did you end up destroying a ship to get the peg insert bit?

Hi folks,
now that was a strange experience!

Yesterday I noticed the following video from Beast of War:

I haven’t got the full “to pay for” membership for BoW, but got intrigued by the mention of IA.
I created a basic membership some month ago and posted some times like I do here.

When seeing my minis on the very first pic I decided to pay for a month and watched the video yesterday.
8 Min coverage for my work and website, nice! Thanks folks. :--]

Still, a very strange feeling to pay for a video coverage about oneself...

The fun part started when the 3 folks speculated about my SWTOR minis.
They mixed up SWTOR (the current online game) with the old KotoR game.
They obviously did not read much of my websites content... ;D

I found some time to paint some more Clone Wars X-Wing fighter.

I am one of the few old SW fans that also enjoyed Star Wars I , II, III. So I always waited for some ships for this era. Once FFG brought out the ARC 170, I bought some back market ships to flesh out both sides of the civil war.

ARC 170 and Eta-2 Jedi Starfighter (by Mel’s Miniatures)
The ARC 170 miniature had the wings and guns slightly warped, I decided to fix it by closing the attack wing configuration.

Looking very nice there mate! Always love seeing the ETA-2 just wish there was someway to make the tiny little wing guns, the print I got it just has two square blocks. Did you get your printed in FUD?
