The biggest hurdle for the Salamander Scout is the quality of the other Fast Attack choices in a guard army.

Both Rough Riders and Hellhounds are premium choices in my opinion. It's hard to pass up on either of those to take a Salamander Scout. If you knew you were playing scenario based missions, one or two Salamanders (probably along with a squad of Rough Riders) seem like a good choice.

Hey Yak, Agreed. The HH and RR are tasty choices in a guard army now. I used to use the sally in 3rd because it could move 12 and still shoot something. Now it can move 12 and shoot everything. But the armor boost and gun boost it is hard not to take them. I always liked RR and they finally are able to do something worthwhile. My Praetorians have been in retirement on the shelf since the waning days of 3rd. I have played them a few times in 4th, but the way I was fielding them in 3rd wasn't working with the 4th ed. rules. Now I am trying to tweak the list so I can start beating people up the side of the head with them again. capt K
