For me it was seeing also those beautiful sculpts loose so much detail.
A lot of what I got in the first one droop no matter how often they were straightened.
Kickstarter 2 I bought a lot less, having to buy a "set" to get a few I wanted was a bit crap.
I'd go in for a big beastie or some terrain as they tend to be pretty solid and dont loose detail.
I do love metal and resin reaper stuff though and always will.

Pretty much the same for me - the smaller figures just aren't worth the time it takes to get them ready to paint, or really even the time it takes to paint them.

BONES is really, really cheap - especially in the KS.

But when 'cheap' is almost the 'best' thing about them, well...

I wonder if people that are quicker, less precise painters like Bones more?

The smaller figs are... semi worth it, IMO. They make great knock around figs for RPGs, which is more or less the exact niche their targetting.

The bigger stuff is a different story. I think that the material does well with larger models, the detail stays fine, and the ease of assembly plus very low cost makes them attractive for monsters and other larger models.

Could another issue be when you have figures designed for the material versus old molds repurposed into Bones?

I've had a few mushy faced figures, but my Bones 2 stuff wasn't too bad that I've painted so far, especially so far figures designed with the material in mind.

I'm not a great painter though, so maybe that's why I'm happy with it?

I went all out on Bones 1, and pretty heavily on Bones 2.

I wasn't buying them for award winning display pieces to show off my painting skills.

I was buying them to give myself a much larger pool of monsters and heroes to throw on my Pathfinder games.

If you are looking for super-detailed models to paint to a high standard, buy the metals, or go elsewhere for your models. Bones can be painted pretty well, but it's harder to do than on models in another medium.

If you are looking for cheap, fairly tough gaming minis that you can incidentally paint, Bones is great.

I backed one and two and I didn't have any casting issues. Some of the thinner figures, mostly the skeletons, were a little warped, but the big stuff was all fine.

That's mostly what sold me on bones is the big stuff. In metal it's just too expensive to justify buying for a RPG game. Producing it in Bones Material brings it down to affordable, and the Kickstarter brings them down to kicking your self if you don't buy it prices.

During Bones 2 they did say they had no plans for a Bones 3 any time soon, and that future KS would be more focused around particular lines (fantasy, Scifi, terrain, dragons, etc..) Maybe plans changed.

I did notice that they seem to have to a hard time keeping the more popular ealier Bones items in stock. Miniatures Market, who offers Bones at a discount in the US, never seems to have the models I want in stock, although they have just added a bunch of the season 2 stuff to pre-order (T.A.R.D.I.S. models all gone already)

I'll be in for terrain and select 'big stuff' - no doubt!

I will once again be going all in. It's a family tradition.

They took the more focused approach with CAV and it didn't do very well.

Perhaps they changed their mind due to the difference in funding raised...

That underwater one with the starfish arms and coral head is kind of funky.

I'm hoping for all sorts of levels of crazy. Crazy sculpts, crazy deals...

I wonder if we'll see expansion boxes again, or if it'll just be a core pledge and add ons. Have Reaper ever said how the expansion experiment played out? I'm guessing it didn't do as well as planned. I'd rather just have the option of buying the specific pieces I want instead of huge bundles where I want 2 or 3 things, and the rest I'm indifferent about. The smaller bundles like the giants or the demons were more what I hope to see more of this time around.


Of course I've already started cherry picking items from the expansion boxes I didn't get...

What grit is good for those sanding needles? Is 150 too coarse? I use the slice method on Bones, along with some micro files, but I am looking for a better solution. (Plus I think it would help with PVC too).

Yeah, they make good faceless mooks. I got the orc pack from the first one (20 orcs for $25) and did just a basic tabletop on those. I find I can knock bones out quickly - the fact that I paid so little for them tends to make me feel better about doing just an average job, and I fuss less over each one.

The big stuff is awesome. I saw liked the new ogres, but at a $20 a pop, who can afford them? In D&D you fight a group of ogres, so its good to see they will be bones-ified.

I may buy in.

I liked the smaller bones pieces as a cheap way to help me get better at kitbashing/scratchbuilds and painting.

I'd definitely go nuts on this KS if some terrain is involved.

I´m tempted, but if they cant find an EU distributor I´m probably gonna need to stay out. shipping and taxes really spoils the fun

Yep told her that you choose wave shipping since it was cheaper like that and you care about house budget.

Very suitable. It's a vinyl-ish plastic, easy to cut.

If you're going after display-level stuff, buy metals individually. Heck, Reaper has plenty of metals to choose from.

Let's hope for more terrain!

Victoria Lamb did a Bones Orc a while back. It looks phenomenal. Yeah, some of it definitely turned out soft but some of it looks softer than it is because white does not do particularly well for showing details.

Yep, it works fine. Weapon/hand/head swaps are all easy, as it cuts very cleanly with a sharp blade, and being light, is easy to balance. You can also heat the minis in hot water, bend them slightly, and dunk them in cold water to set them in a new pose (also handy for straightening any bent components).

It's great stuff, I just wish it were easier to get in the UK at decent prices.

For people who are collecting miniatures, Bones is on the fence, but for populating RPG dungeons, bones has been a gamechanger. Considering some DMs use abstract items for campaigns, having literally all the common monsters in cheap form is huge for gamers.

Miniature people may Poo-poo, but it is really nice when you need a special monster for a session and you can get them in bones for 3-4$ opposed to 15$.

They are 'knock around' figures. They can be painted easily, look good on a table, can be stored in a shoebox and elevate a D&D game. But for miniature gamers, who are into the painting of minis and want excellence, they want metal versions... and I get that.

I am excited to see what comes of it.

Yeah, they look decent, and a few eBay stores carry some of the stuff, but I wish there was just a way to get the full Reaper range reasonably quickly and at the price you'd pay in the US.

One of my buddy's girlfriend has painted two miniatures in her life. She painted one of his Rohan dudes wearing all pink late last year... Then two weeks ago she painted a Bones Minotaur, painted it well, in like two hours, and now she can't wait to paint more Bones minis.

Just got 2 shipping crates, very happy.

they're a very hard plastic, more like sheet styrene than soft bones stuff.

they also come with tops and bottoms! The inside is blank (not even textured) but could be detailed if you want.

What glue do you use? Superglue or plastic cement?

Superglue, with needle since its much easier to get my hands on and price is also big factor. Never had problems with it.
