Nope, nothing about shape either. The only requirement that I have EVER found on the bases is that they need to be equal or larger than what the model came with. So, what about using yardsticks?

Hmmm..... Giant 8 pointed star basis for Chaos?

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the librarian/droppod with the 'crescent moon' shaped base that forces the 'no retreat' rule when an enemy unit breaks.

That's the rationale of adults, isn't it?
That we should just forget things that are inconvenient to remember.
Adults are deceitful.

I would say that since the text doesnt allow us to change the shape of the base, then we have to stick with round bases. Does anything come on non-round bases anymore?

Da Southern New Hampshire!

Well my bikes are mounted on Square Cavalry bases.

I think the Rough Rider Cavalry are mounted on Cavalry Bases.

If at first you don't succeed, you fail.

Who would do this? Who would exploit this rule? I mean having a character on a 40mm base instead of 25mm base because he might be an armies centrepeice I can accept. Maybe even veteran sergeants but only if they were painted and modelled extremely well...and that is still pushing it. Who out there is looking for that extra edge on his opponent rather than becoming a better player. I don't even know if this is an edge, its just stupid.

But ya gotta admit Davey, it is the Kraft dinner of 40k :p

I was considering putting my terminator models on 40mm bases which is what got me thinking about this (not for tactical advantage but because I think it will look cool, for sure my master & terminator chappie are going on 40mm bases and hopefully I can convince John to paint them) Also, the fact that I can model all my pathfinders sitting in trees to give them better LOS because the fact that models that come laying down get scr3w3d is a joke.

Drano doesn't exactly scream "toy" to me.

Terminators come on 40mm bases. The guys at Triafata have been talking about this for months, along with lots of other cheese. Okay if someone were to use 40mm bases for all their models it is a GW product that comes with a lot of models. But CDs? Records? wtf I will set your army aflame if you deploy this infront of my WYSIWYG, to code army.
I have a jungle trees sprue if you want it.

Don't be too quick to judge about CD's DonkeyCannon - I've based a model on a CD (and the CD wasn't big enough so I had to extend the edges with millliput), but it was nothing to do with cheese, simply modelling.

Still, we've had some amusing situations in games, like when it gets hit with a battlecannon, direct hit, and it's still only a partial. Of course I just let my opponent say it's a fully covered if he rolls a hit, so nobody tends to claim 'cheese' at me for it.

Here's a pic:

Looks beautiful. I model as much as I can and I promote modelling to great extents but a CD used as a base is just too big. There are ways you could model the terrain on the base to act as a stand and keep the base itself at a reasonable size. I wouldn't play against this as its just not fair. I like what you have done but not from a gaming point of view.

Man.

It's good to know that other people have thought of putting a nasty creature on a 4 foot by 4 foot base. Good news.

But why hasn't anyone mentioned the idea of a "ninja" base?

-----

Player 1: OK, I'm gonna charge your Necron Scarab squad there.

Player 2: That isn't a squad of Scarabs there.

Player 1: Whaddya mean? It's right there. What, or maybe it's called a "swarm" of Scarabs.

Player 2: Ohhhh, no, that's not what I mean. Oh, no, that's just scenery.

Player 1: Wha?

Player 2: Yeah. You see, technically, this whole board is the base of my Nightbringer. Oh, you thought that Nightbringer was just a piece of scenery because it's painted gold and built into the board? I'm afraid not.

Player 1: Wha?

Player 2: Yeah. Oh yeah, hurry up and finish. I can't wait to use "Etheric Tempest" on your whole frickin' army!

Player 1: Wha?

-----

See, it's like a ninja! It just pops up outta nowhere, sorta kinda.
