Haha, you have no idea how great a set-up he got with that.

Now that the TV show moved past the last book and was declared the canon lore of ASoIaF (and next books will just be "what-ifs" alternate history to that as Martin said) he doesn't even have to rush at all - HBO knows it all, it doesn't have to wait for him to finish any books at all, they have all the scripts till the end of the saga.

Now he can slack as much as he wants and he still gets ridiculous amounts of money, that man is living the dream!

Well, I always think of the expression:

"You meet a lot of fat men, and you meet a lot of old men, but you don't meet a lot of fat, old men."

So I guess in that regard I'm glad HBO can finish things if he doesn't make it to the end.

What the ?! happened? GW took a game the kinda resembled chess and made it into a game that now resembles checkers.

I have no idea. AoS is deeply flawed, but it's still definitely a tabletop wargame, not a checkers-like board game.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Well yeah I guess a pile of money is still a pile of money. Still though I can recall one particular old fogey who wrote for fun and the look on his kids faces when be read to them. He had a silly name too... Wrote a ton of books too and they are still infinitely better than any tripe anyone is writing these days!

Maybe someone ought to make a series of gakky movies based on his books... Oh wait!

That happened!

Everybody needs to calm their f*cking tits in this thread. Have a legitimate discussion about gaming, not a bitchfight over if insulting someone is bad or good.

Now that that's done, I personally dislike AOS mainly for the lack of creativity when building a list. Heroes and lords are now blank slates that cant be changed as opposed to blank spates with a ballston of options. The simplicity in combat is another issue, but that's self explanatory.

I meant that in an intellectual capacity comparing checkers to chess, one is more complex and requires more strategy than the other. I should specify that isn't a bad thing, AoS is much faster and simpler than Warhammer Fantasy was. I personally enjoyed the more complex rules of WHFB and it felt more realistic to me (as much as could be expected from something that was just a tabletop game). I would often picture in my head a sword or ax glancing off of heavy armor or an arrow bouncing off of a well-formed shield wall as the game mechanics implied when you hit but failed to wound. I played a few Warhammer 40k games just before the release of AoS, and I proxied a few AoS games with a friend. It really is so different from the Fantasy of old as to be an entirely brand new game. And now, although it may allow mass armies, the rules skew more toward small skirmish games. "AoS: The **** happened to my world" is a very apt question to ask for us expecting to transition to a new edition and instead are faced with an entirely new game and set of rules. Man, I played High Elves and although spearmen were really weak and Lothern Sea Guard were considered a subpar option, I loved to see my big, neat block of 40 to 60 of them in perfect, disciplined formation ready to meet the enemy's charge. One of the many things gone from the new game that I will miss.

Thats pretty much my feelings as well. Beyond all the arguments about rules or insults about the new game or 'old users can't move on' its a simple matter of I bought into fantasy for ranks of soldiers in a tabletop wargame scenario now that the game is gone and now resembles more something like Warmachine I have no interest. We can't claim AoS is still the same system as fantasy anymore as someone said its like taking chess and turning it into checkers or trying to sell Halo wars to halo fans sure the themes the same but they're different games and FPS players might not want to play an RTS.

I'm sure AoS will be a fine game but its not why I played fantasy.

What do you mean not to scale with anything else? are the Chaos miniatures different in scale from old Chaos minis? Not counting the lord, though - I wouldn't mind if he was bigger than usual - Khorne loves beefy beefcakes.

Other than Chaos miniatures I was under impression that those Sigmarines ARE supposed to be huge - they're basically fantasy version of Space Marines forged by two gods using greatest heroes and magickiest, godly metals. And they're even in true scale - that's the size 40k space marines should be in.

From my perspective I think that the game is aimed at a demographic I am not part of (to be fair I have thought this about GW games for a while now). I personally think that they are aiming the simplicity and appeal of AoS at 8-13 year old boys who will hassle their parents to spend money on them at the GW store. Probably a good business move but I will move to Mantic Games' Kings of War or Armies of Arcana for massed Fantasy battles.

Heroes and lords may be blank slates but you are now allowed to take ANY unit/hero/lord/monster from any other army/faction/race, you can now have an ogre force led by a daemon prince supported by a few units of eshin rats with bone giant thrown in... Because why not, surely that has opened up your list making potential to a far greater extent than a few items, heck I feel more free now as I can build an army with any theme without having to mass convert...

It doesn't exist anymore. The world GW has built up for decades was just erased for a Space Marine ripoff. It's a damn shame.

I've been a collector for nearly 20 years, but I always thought the game systems were too complex so I basically never played FB or 40K. Maybe I'm the target audience, but I'm looking forward to getting the AoS box and finally playing a game with rules that I can comprehend in a single session.

I understand the frustration that loyal gamers have, but the old rules (of every edition) still exist as long as you have the books and models.
