Thanks! I'm waiting on some bases before I get going on my Kannons, but I might try to fit in something before I get started on the artillery.

Nice Orks, Brother SRM.

Given the retro Ultramarines and the Valhallans, any plans for units of "traditional" Kommandos or the original uniformed Stormboyz?

Thanks! I've mixed in some older models here and there - a lot of the grots are old metal Gorkamorka grots, one trukk has the Gorkamorka canopy, I've got some 2nd ed grots and so on, but I don't think I'll go straight up retro in this army the way I do with my Ultras. I love the old Stormboyz models but it always kind of threw me for a loop that the boot-polishing, drilled and trained Ork troops were the ones crazy enough to strap on jetpacks. I'd love to do Kommandos in the old Blood Axe Kommandos scheme though:

You're doing great work. I know its from a while back, but I love the looted space marine shoulderpads on your boyz.

I painted up some barricades for my table to go with my Orks. Nothing too special but I'm happy with how they came out:

Old school models and color schemes are kinda my thing, so I'm hoping I get the opportunity at some point with this army. Would give me an excuse to get those sick Forgeworld Kommandos at the very least.

Converted up this trukk tonight; I think this may have been more work than the two trukks before!

So I got a bunch of old Orks, new in blister, in an eBay auction a while ago for a hell of a good deal. In there I found a few of the old Kannons, and since they're so cheap and fit the military theme of my Blood Axes, I had to put them together! Unfortunately the two blisters were both missing a grot gunner, so I called up GW and that same day a pair of resin Kannons were on their way, no questions asked! I also used the Forgeworld grot crew models to fill out some bodies in the squad, and they're wonderfully characterful models.

With the first half of my artillery section complete (and no desire to paint vehicles) I painted up Mad Dok Grotsnik, a pair of old Gorkamorka Mekboyz, and a mob of 'Ardboyz in desperate need of a trukk!

Grotsnik was actually really fun; I've never liked the model, but actually getting to paint it myself really made me appreciate the mini. I still think his pose and GW paintjob kind of suck, but by breaking up the metallics with a Big Boss-esque bionic arm, I came to like the mini a lot more. The Mekboyz were really fun too, but they're downright scrawny next to a modern Ork boy.

The 'Ardboyz are my fourth and final (planned, anyway) mob in the army, and the one focused solely on close combat. I used a few of the old metal Tankbustas since they're uparmored enough to serve as 'Ardboyz, and I've always liked the models. I also used a few Ogryn bits I happened to have for the gascans and stuff, which I think really look right for a mob of boyz in a trukk. Finally, I cut the door off a Taurox I converted for these guys and got to use the door as a riot shield, which I'm super happy with! Instead of doing desert camo on the tan armor, I just left the areas tan and I think that was the wrong move. They still look fine, but not quite as good as my guys with splotches of desert camo. Ah well, they're still lookin' dead 'ard.

And that's all I've got for now! I think it's about time I painted another trukk before building a ride for these guys, and the upcoming mobs of Meganobz I've got in their boxes.

The 'ard boys are looking great. I also think that trukk you converted up is a work of genius.

You've done an awesome job on the looted Taurox! It looks the dictionary definition (at least regarding Orks) of 'ramshackle'.

Loving the customization on your boys. The wear and tear on the paint job really sells it too. I am quite fond of the work you have done with your bronzes. The oxidization works very well against the reds.

Thanks all! The vehicles are a hugely fun part of this army, and the hardest part is figuring out how I'll make the next one! Right now I'm working on the most recent Trukk and just putting some metallics down on it; nothing too special to report, but after a weeklong vacation in Prague it's nice to get back to the painting table!

After being out of town for a week, I was jonesing for some hobby action. Yesterday I sat down and painted up the halftrakk:

I also took an old Rhino a friend made back in high school, chopped it the hell up, and yesterday I used a bunch of bits to make it into a proper Orky vehicle:

Love to see a nice orky kitbash. Makes my inner mekboy smile.

Then I need to remind myself again that I’m not starting another army.

I figured at the rate I paint, just the stuff I have primed will last me until mid-2017. And if I dredged the recesses of my hobby space, I could find tons more of stuff to do. I’d love new projects, but my plate is full. Plus there is a limit on what I can afford.

So for now my inner ork just get to live vicariously through blogs like yours.

Meant to comment last night. I absolutely love your Mek conversion. Will be awesome when he is painted. It's what I love about Orks. So much conversion room.

Awesome, awesome Big Mek, SRM! Are those the Kataphron tracks you've used? I've been eyeing up the Kataphron box myself with the intent of looting me some sweet treads!

Keep up the awesome work!
