Not much of a painting update; but I've finally been able to get a game under my belt at 1,250 pts. It was against a new Deamon list, all the warhounds are in for Flesh hounds.









We went for kill points as its my second game in 8 or so years.

It didn't end so well for me, but I learnt some really worthwhile lessons!

With Shadow War Armegeddon coming out this Saturday, and getting a brief taster of it last Thursday in a local GW. I set about building a Black Templar scout kill team. I don't know the exact points costs, so have made some assumptions at the moment.

Rather than the standard grey building dust, I've been considering going for more of a dusty Armageddon sand look, with the same white tiles, and sand tufts?

So Balor Brown, Agrax'd, Zamesi Desert highlight, Terminus stone drybrush.

Instead of the Administratum grey, dawnstone drybrush

Think it might make them pop more.

8th edition has kicked my arse in gear and as such I want to use this as my initial testing list for my Templars: Given the synergy I want a pure Templar list, no Steel Legion:

Due the majority of leaks and previewing the index/rulebook in store I've been able to get a list together. Understandably until we play who knows how its going to pan out however;
I'm looking for some CC, to see if there is anything I'm missing.

My main aim is to stay fairly fluffy with the crusade squads, supported by some nice HQ choices. The Reedemer LR goes off in search of elite and character hunting. With the Apoth looking to keep the Marshall and the Emperuh's champion alive.

The Marshall provides re-rolls to hit as well as Grimaldus. That's why I've split them up. Hes then in the Crusader for anti-infantry purposes.

The intercessor squad is for some fire support with -1 AP, but mainly back field objective holders. That and I needed a third troop choice to make up my battalion detachment.

Centurion Dev's do what they say on the tin. Long range fire support and anti-vehicle.

Terminator assault squad is there to deploy in as and where I need them.

I've finally settled on my chapter for Primaris marines.

Looks like its another Fist Successor.

The Celestial Lions. In dire need of reinforcement!

Here's my first test model on the Celestial Lions Primaris marines.

First Try

Initially I felt like it was still missing detail so I tried for a yellow power armour glow on the neck/lenses. The star charts to make the blue pop. Also some tribal face paint.
Need to thin the lines down and then try for the pupils. Also tried some gold battle damage on the shins/pads not sure on that.

I asked POP Goes The Monkey if he would consider making the curved insigna set instead. So here we go gents:

Celestial Lions are looking pretty sweet so far. I've got to weigh up whether or not to clip shoulders from the Primaris so I can do what you've done here and add in chapter pads.. I think I'll probably end up doing it. And so I have you to blame.

Az, it was a complete pain in the arse!

However Pop Goes The Monkey does now do a lot of just curved insignia sets that you can put on pads, so no cutting needed!

It's worth it Az! Out of interest what chapter are you going to run matey?

Also you don't have to worry to much about being clean as obviously the pad will overlay, I clipped the majority then trimmed with a knife for anything too chunky.

These first guys are going to be Minotaurs. I've got the FW shoulder pads, and some aftermarket heads I'm using on both the Bolt Rifle squads, and possibly the Plasma Gun guys - though they will get Scibor pads instead of FW, I'm thinking. Not sure what I'll do to the jump guys, TBH - they don't seem as mod-friendly in terms of shoulders and heads.

This time I have a picture battle report from a 2k Contact Lost Maelstrom game.

My Celestial Lions & Black Templar's face up to an epic Greentide!


I get to select the deployment zone. Opting to cram the orks into a corner and hope that can't all deploy. They just fit in!


The Horde - Roughly 140+ Ork Boyz and Storm Boyz. Not sure I have the weight of fire for this!

The Storm Boyz are mowed down, but not without mauling the first Intercessor squad down to two members.


Soon advance and charge rolls go very well for the greentide. 5/6's all round. The horde gets closer, taking the Lion's by surprise!


Things are starting to look awfully familiar to the Mannhiem Gap!


The Crusader Squad and Emperuahh's champion disembark to support the wavering frontline.

But they don't get the charge, and so settle for supporting their brothers in need.


We ended it there as we gave our table up for another few blokes to get some play time.

The gold has been a long process! Batch painting 50+ Prim marines has meant it's not started to pop out yet. Still yet to do a Stormhost edge highlight to bring it together.

Really can't wait to get started on the plasma incinerators for some OSL as well. Oh and the troop type transfers, oh and all the other touch ups!

The board's progress.... Had a few raining days this week in UK so was difficult to get out and use my spray cans!

Intention is to use the main path as a thoroughfare, with two large doors opening up in between the rock outcrops.

Then with all my Celestial Lions arranged for battle pouring from the gate, with command on the rock outcrop to the left.

Apollyon the Inquisitor that screwed them over on the world Khattar, will have a small elite Inquisition army at the end of the thoroughfare.

The board itself will be called "Apolloyon is at the gates". Apollyon translated into English means Destruction or Destroyer.

The main thing I'm struggling with at the moment is locating Savannah shrubs or trees to make it as thematic as possible.
