I play Armada, and as with X-Wing, the Rules don't break down super easy like Attack Wing does.

FFG puts a lot of effort into making different ships different point values for balance reasons. They factor in the maneuver dial, the action bar, the ship stats, the pilot abilities, the pilot skill, plus anything magical they like... ALL of it is included in the point cost.

Attack wing is simple: Ship Stats x2. period.

Depending on what we want to use for the stats, we can draft up armada-esque attack wing as a group.

Thanks for pointing that out. I've watched several dozen unboxing/review videos for STAW over the past week or two on youtube and noticed that some generic ships didn't get a price decrease while most did. It seemed clustered around the really cheap, crappy ships so I just figured that Wizkids had some sort of plan regarding a lower points limit for each faction to try and deter swarm spam. In a game where special abilities and upgrade slots cost points each and every time on an upgrade card, I'm ashamed to say that it never occurred to me that they'd be choose to mindnumbingly oversimplfiy the value of each ship to just the stats on the left x2. I guess I gave Wizkids too much credit. As fans you could always try to house rule that each stat (usually shields?) is worth 1pt, the special ability is 1pt, and the loss of upgrade slots is 1/2 point each (round down) to give a 3pt spread usually between generics and uniques... but you shouldn't have to think of that kind of basic stuff on your own as that should be the company's job. I kept wondering why anyone would ever take those generics for the same cost but I guess I know why now (because they'd rather have you buy another booster of the exact same model to get a much better stat card for the same price).

I'm game for that; not sure if we should open a new thread or just use this one.

I propose we use the TOS Enterprise as the base-line model, with 2 or 3 points per stat, as appropriate. I also suggest going with the idea that each one point stat increase is "twice" the value, to help tone down huge gulfs between ship eras.

So, the TOS Constitution cruiser might be:

Hull: 3; Front Arc: 2blue; L/R Arc: 2blue; Anti-squadron: 1 black; Shields: 2F;2L/R;2R; Maneuver: 1 - 2c;2 - 2c/2c;3 - 0c/1c/2c; 4 - 0c/1c/1c/2c; 1 Command/0 Squadron/2 Engineering; Evade, Redirect, Brace
Upgrades: Captain, 2 Crew, Torpedoes

I'm horrible on costing - maybe 30 pts?

And some thoughts about upgrade cards (not even going to try and cost them...):

Captain Kirk (Captain): If you spend a Command dial, you also gain the corresponding token
Montgomery Scott (Crew): Your engineering tokens give you full engineering points, not half
Mr. Spock (Crew): You may change one accuracy icon to a Critical hit
Leonard "Bones" McCoy (Crew): You may discard an Engineering token from your ship to turn a crew or captain Critical damage card face down
Nyota Uhura (Crew): You may discard a Squadron token from your ship to view the command dial of an enemy ship at Range 1-5
Hikaru Sulu (Crew): Your Navigate tokens count as Navigate dials
Pavel Chekov (Crew): You may turn one blue attack die into a black or red attack die

Photon Torpedoes: You may reroll any Accuracy icons
Enterprise (Title): You may flip the first critical you receive face down

It never ends well

I can see this being a decent starting point.

It would also help us deal with the horrible fighter spamming in Attack Wing.

Perhaps the rules conversion topic deserves its own thread since this is about scale issues? I'd post some questions in there.

I started up a new thread for it. Should be interesting.
