I like restoration work, too. Though sometimes I wonder whether the effort is really worth it. Still, the old Infinity PanO Fusiliers with their new smaller, more modern weapons and new helmets make spiffy Auxilias.

Almost exclusively! Hitting up Ebay and finding a lot of old minis that are poorly painted and rehabilitating them is my jam.

Heck, my whole Ogre, Empire and Dark Elf armies are mostly made up of rescues.

I love getting blood bowl figures and fixing them. Back in the early days of ebay, I was buying singles and teams just because...

I guess that way I have very nearly 1,700 blood bowl/fantasy football miniatures. About the only figures I buy these days...

I just spent the last couple days rebuilding/repainting a battlewagon that I had that looked like hot garbage. Now you can barely tell the difference between it and my new one. Definitely worth not paying another 60 bucks for a fresh battlewagon.

Its definitely a lot easier with metal models, as plastic models tend to break down more during the stripping process (all my wagons turrets broke, as well as most of the hull coming apart).

I think if I re-up into 40k (pretty much at max now) I will be buying an ultrasonic cleaner. They are about $100-400, but make stripping an absolute pleasure. My buddy bought one to clean ammo casings for reloading bullets and used it to strip several Eldar vehicles. Worked AMAZINGLY! Highly recommended. No scrubbing....

This is pretty much how I have started my army. After painting a set of guardians I got hold of some metal fire dragons and banshees stripped the, down and painted them up. I really like the older models and the shipping process was good fun and rewarding. Will definitely do this more, looking at a wave serpent next. I'm using detol to strip them.

Currently restoring around 150 marines. Some are in worse states than others/the amount of glue some people use.......Anyway.Today I've spent breaking off ruined parts and replacing them with spares and improving them with alternative parts from both Anvil and Kromlech and Zinge. To say they look a bit 'eclectic' is an understatement! It's fun seeing them coming back to life so to speak,and seeing that I'm a painter/collector rather than a player I'm a bit more freer with what I arm them with.
The current plan is to paint up 50 of each of the Loyalist chapters,so far I've done;
Dark Angels,Blood Angels,Ultramarines,Imperial Fists,Iron Hands. Next up are the Salamanders followed by White Scars and then the Raven Guard!
I don't plan on any vehicles but plan to at least paint up 5 terminators of each of the chapters.
It's taking a while because of work restraints but it is worth it.
I think!

I do this pretty regularly. Sometimes it's me renovating my old work from 10-20 years ago. Sometimes it's a strip and fresh coat of paint. The former always gives much more satisfaction than the latter. Bringing something that was in the "disliked" category up to something I'm happy with today.
