I cleaned up the armour plates. No pics as it's not very spectacular.

One of the leg armor plates was irreparably miscast and I had to send for a replacement. Stupid me had already disposed of the plastic wrapping for recycling, so no batch number. I hope they are OK with that.

Nevermind. I had to do some cheating (the contact points do not line up at all behind the plate) but I was able to repair the plate to a passable condition, and once assembled the outer leg plate will hopefully conceal the damage.

Finally, here is a crew shot. There is a lot of empty space inside the torso so I imagine there is more than three crew. In this case I will go with five, including the Moderati. Thus here is, from left to right: Steersman Edwich Alderman, Princeps Maylin Obrosius and Crew Officer Phillip Perroy.

Sorry for replying to a slightly older post, but I'd suggest adding at least three more crew members to the roster (apologies if this has already been mentioned elsewhere): a magos / techpriest to oversee the reactor and a pair of moderatii to operate the arm-mounted weaponry.

Also, +1 for using Irena Vega, I have one in my own Solar Auxilia army as a Proclaimator (but with a headswap so she sports a red beret like most of the army).

Should a Warlord have four moderati?

I definitely plan on a techpriest once I find a suitable model (I could be lazy and use the Titan techpriest from FW, but I want to explore all options - same with the moderati) but I thought the Warlord only has two moderati. As far as I know, not even Imperators have more than two.

From what I recall, though this is older fluff (Space Marine, by Ian Watson), the main weapons each had their own respective Moderatii / operator to help with operations and act as buffers for the feedback, along with crew for sensors, one for movement and of course, the Princeps in overall control. Plus, isn't any excuse to field more models for one-off scenarios a good thing? I can already see it now, the crew stuck in a Zone Mortalis setting, needing to reach their engine, all the while hunted by an enemy kill team.

You could always use the Techpriestess done by Raging Heroes, it's perhaps a bit on the big side, but I always imagine riding inside a titan to be a bumpy ride, so all those mechadendrites would be handy for anchoring oneself whilst performing crucial tasks.

The Steersman (left) is a FW Knight Scion that my father won for me in the recent FW Titan contest.

The Crew Officer (right) is the Princeps who came with the Titan's head.

The Necropriestess is unfortunately a bit too big and boobalicious for me. Even Vega has a pretty gratuitous rack considering her coat and all, and the NP just takes it a bit too far!

You can get a number of female not-Techpriests from a company on eBay. Unfortunately they are in a pin-up style but one of them could be easily altered. If you search for 'female mechanic adept' you should find them if you feel like taking a look; they've got some pretty nifty female skitarii things as well but they too suffer from a lack of clothing, nothing a quick snip with the scalpel and some Green Stuff wouldn't sort out but there you go.

I am unfortunately a really terrible sculptor.

The techpriest does not have to be female either. The model being good is what matters most.

Big gun is big.

Spoiler:
And phallic. Hot damn.

This one required a lot more bending than the rest of the Warlord, especially the support struts under the barrel, and it is still not completely straight. I'll probably return to it later.

Its armour plating is not attached; like the rest of the model, they are left off for painting.

You said you are not making the weapons swapable, correct? I have the two Volcano cannons on mine, but want to make it swappable for the Plasma and (if it comes to be a thing) quake cannon. Have seen a few different techniques, none of which seem very easy.

Regarding the head / crew... aren't all the crew not visible? If they're not visible, I personally would not bother... although it could be cool to have them painted on foot outside the titan (for when they bail out?).

LEDs in the head (to have the eyes glowing) could be really cool, PoweredPlay makes great kits for things like that!

Opening the torso and putting something like that in there is possible, and tempting.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qd3sD17Ovyk&t=1m44s

It would be PERFECT. Just how I imagine a Warlord war horn to sound (and they do, canonically, have war horns).

But I am unsure if it will be worth the hassle to disassemble the torso enough to actually build the contraption necessary for that.

I am not making them swappable. As tempting as it is, it would come at the price of invaluable stability. Having a volcano cannon fall off in-game and shattering into tiny shards is not a tempting prospect.

I do have an airbrush and more importantly, willing friends to help.

The crew on foot are also for those situations when they bail out, but mainly for display purposes.

Thanks for the tip about PoweredPlay, I shall take a look.

Thanks for the tip about Poweredplay! I deeply considered it, but I eventually decided against it, as the Titan is cluttered enough, unstable enough and generally obnoxious enough in assembly to add additional stuff like that. I may end up using it for something else so I shall keep it in mind.

I think the key is to use bolts to hold them in place, not just magnets. I'm not sure exactly how it would work since the rest of the arm isn't posted, but you could drill through that round bit where the gun attaches to the arm and cover the end of the screw with one of the detail bits. Then you use magnets for posing only, to adjust the gun to the right level. That way all of the load is held securely by the horizontal screw, and you can't pull the gun off downward without tearing the entire piece apart. It ends up being stronger than a mere glue joint, with the added bonus of being swappable later.

It is not as daunting as I expected. The difficulty of the kit is not so bad by Titan standards. It's just a loooot of work.

Especially the weapons are problematic, though. The volcano cannon required not only large amounts of bending, it will also require filling as the joints do not line up properly. This is particularly visible on the other side of the model, where I will have to whip out the green stuff (which will suck as I am terrible with it).

You have my respect for tackling a beast of this size. I've been a bit intimidated by Forge World's titans. That's why I haven't taken the plunge on so much as a Warhound.

Out of curiosity, which technique do you use to straighten out resin pieces, especially ones of this size? I've heard of hot water from a faucet and using hair dryers. But I don't know which is best or if it depends on the size of the piece in question.

I'm loving the idea of fitting a war horn in there. It's already an immense project though, so I can see why you might not want to go that far.

I'm looking forward to following this thread!

I use hot water. For the larger pieces, a lot of hot water.

I have a hairdryer too but the water feels safer.

The war horn sounds cool in theory but would probably be pretty annoying/awkward to use in practice.
