The Empire: The mustachioed fashion icons of the Old World. The Imperium wishes they could be this stylish.

This looks really good! When I painted *a* Talabecheim state trooper I just did the pants in red and the shirt in white. Doing the quartered thing seems like a real pain especially with the colors you are using.

It's pretty telling that a major part of the Empire's economy is based on the sale of fantastic hats Glad you're digging the army though. The quartered thing isn't really that hard. Since the models aren't made of hard, mechanical shapes, the lines don't have to be as precise. There are also a lot of seams on their pants and shirts that run through the centers of the models, which make breaking them up for quartering or halving pretty easy.

I played Age of Sigmar today with my buddy. I brought Empire, he brought Dwarfs. We played a mission with three objectives, which could only be captured by character models. Problem was, my characters weren't super motivated, so my Witch Hunter didn't get on an objective til late in the game, and my captain didn't clear off the central objective til the last turn. He won the battle, although he only had a wounded Cogsmith and an unmanned cannon left while I still had 20something state troops and crossbows, plus my characters left. Here's some pictures:

I've gotta figure out how to add some punch to this army. The block of State Troops was nice, but while they were survivable, none of their weapon options are that deadly. Even my Reiksguard aren't that damaging, although their charge was good enough to wipe the Slayers out - unfortunately, the Slayers' postmortem attacks killed half the unit! The crossbows did alright, although if I got to use their stand and shoot ability they could be pretty devastating. I've got a block of handgunners coming up next, and then I've gotta figure out were I can put some real punch in this army. I'm hoping Demigryph Knights and a Hellblaster Volley Gun will be enough to give the army some more dependable damage output, as for a lot of this game I felt like I was swinging wet noodles, despite the near tabling of my opponent.

Glad you enjoyed the video! That's my buddy Dan's Guard, which are all Victoria Lamb sculpts. I might try and showcase them on the channel because they're a good looking army.

A good overview of AoS and a really pretty battlefield. I agree that AoS has a lot of things going especially now that the GHB has been release. It's modern game design that flows a lot smoother than WHFB/40k with the latter's obsession with charts and the cross referencing thereof. Though, I think it would've been received a lot better if the old world, which everyone loved, hadn't been blown up to make room for fantasy space marines.

Agreed completely, I feel like it wouldn't have been hard to introduce Stormcast to the Old World while keeping it more or less intact. It's not like there's any shortage of dead heroes to be reincarnated as golden golems before the world got itself blow'd up.

As for the battlefield, that's my buddy Dylan's, which you can see more of here:

Have you considered adding a wizard or two? Wildform gives you +1 to a units to wound rolls. That'll give your big blocks of infantry some extra punch.

Dang, I hadn't even seen that spell! With a casting value of 6 that's not too bad either. Fortunately, I have a blister pack of old Amber Wizards I can use for that. Thanks for the tip!

The Empire General and Handgunners is a very punchy combo, between his Hold The Line and their Steady Aim, you go from 5+/3+ to 3+/2+ so long as they don't move, and since the General's buff can affect up to 3 units, you can stick a unit nearby to defend the gunners pretty effectively as well.

Weird round of batch painting this month had me painting 10 Ironsides Handgunners, an Empire Engineer, and a Warrior Priest. Glad they all had a fairly similar color palette! Not happy with the faces on the Ironsides though; the helmets and the angles, plus my brush crapping out really made the faces look pretty poor. I really like how the priest came out though. Anyway, here's my hams:

The Engineer:

Those Ironside Handgunners look pretty ace. If there is anything wrong with the faces the helmets and huge honking guns block it. Forge World's fantasy models are pretty good which makes you wonder of the possibilities if they ever stop snorting the 30k crack. It's also kind of funny how the Ironside conversion kit just basically requires the arms from the plastic kit. You'd think at that point they would just sculpt some gun arms. The Engineer and Warrior Priest also look great. The Empire SCs are so full of character and nice detail. So nice that they gave them their own two factions lol.

Are you ever going to paint up a steam tank? That unit is so Empire it's ridiculous.

I hope to add a Steamtank eventually! I've got a pretty hefty backlog for this army alone, so I don't want to get that big centrepiece until there's a real army to center around it.

I'm playing a game this weekend, and I found I was in need of more Fantasy-appropriate terrain, so I painted up a set of walls and fences! There's some State Troops in there for scale:

Why thank you! After I stumbled over the first unit (batch painting 20 guys in the Talabheim scheme over black primer was not a good idea) the army's gone pretty smoothly.

Looking really good! I've got a sixth Ed fantasy starter box that I've been sitting on and now this makes me want to dig it out and fix it up for AOS.

The minis in that box are the perfect level of detail for massed ranks of infantry; I'm a little envious since the standard plastic kits are so detailed it makes painting a buttload of dudes kind of time consuming.

20 State Troops - painting masses of dudes is way easier when they don't have bling hanging everywhere:

Arcane Ruins - this set is easy to assemble but ugh there's so many gaps to fill and they're really awful. After gap filling and sanding it looks okay:
