I actually use a spider drone with extra weapons and antennae to stand in as my Handler in all-robot forces, and imagine that the handler is neural linking with it by remote.

Ooh! Clever thought. Might bear that in mind. It also means I don't have to buy any more minis (have too many built up waiting already)

That is a great solution.

My favorite 'hook' in the fluff is the bit about entirely automated aggressive terraforming fleets sent out to remove any problematic species from a desirable planet.
