Your painting is very rough atm, but the amount of work you are doing is great to get enough practice to remedy that! You are on a good path -

Some advice

1.) Always prime your models, your paint will not stick well and will come off otherwise

2.) Put multiple coats of thinner paint on to get a smoother finish

3.) look online! There are a billion great tutorials out there for beginners, if you are looking improve that is a super effective and quick way.

4.) When you improve, invest in better tools and paints to keep the momentum going. Brushes, paints, and tools are certainly not made equal, investing in them if you are going to stick with the hobby is well worth it.

We all began like this, please don't take it as discouraging critique, you will improve by leaps and bounds if you keep at it and you make sure you are learning good habits to make the most of your efforts. Good luck!

Thanks EDC, I have an old Eavy Metal painting guide for High Elves that focuses on metallic gold armour that I'm keen to give a try.

MajorTom11, thanks man. I'm always aiming to improve and learn how to paint new colour schemes and techniques

So following on from some suggestions, I bit the bullet and bought thematic undercoats to replace my ancient black spray

Need a decent purple spray for the EC still however

So I rearmed the Custodes all with 2 handed Guardian Spears, and decided to start a squad of Sentinel Guard with shields and swords. There's only 2 so far, so I clearly need more!

Yep! I moved away from the old article I had, i'll just use one of the Stormcast how to guides instead. Going with red shoulder pads and leathers, white rope/sash things and blue gems

Eastern edge

Salamanders looking good, and the Custodes look like a fun painting project, plenty of details to work on.

"Your mumblings are awakening the sleeping Dragon, be wary when meddling the affairs of Dragons, for thou art tasty and go good with either ketchup or chocolate. "
Dragons fear nothing, if it acts up, we breath magic fire that turns them into marshmallow peeps. We leaguers only cry rivets!

It'd be worth checking out Duncan's how-to videos for Stormcasts and Custodes on youtube as well. Helped me a bunch watching how he actually made the brushstrokes.

Very early progress on my first Custode; he'll be the guinea pig for the rest

Finally found the shoulderpads for this guy so he's 90% complete; his co,bi-bolter will be a Grey Knights bolter on the wrist which I need to sort out.

So, back again. Recently found this arm in a bitz box, I think I'd meant it to go onto one of my Wolf dreads.

It's a bit dinged up, but I have a plan. Modify the dragon heads to look like eagle beaks, and add a wing

Sculpt the claw of the Emperor's Children legion icon, and fix some of the battle damage, then onto the Venerable Dreadnought

Thoughts?

In my mind, the Salamanders are the craftsmen of this Shattered Legion force, so they get the cool stuff. Like this land raider with Chapter House bits I got a while ago. Decided to buy Forgeworld doors for it, so I can't finish until they get in, but it'll be the transport for the breachers.

Also built some Mk 6 Raven Guard from spare plastic bits I have lying around. Thinking I'll kitbash a Mor Deythan squad out of them. Pics to follow.

Apologies for the slow, slow progress, been a rough year but getting back into the swing of things Hope everyone is well, happy new year!

Returning to work on many projects I've left off for a while. Here's a squad of special weapon legionaries.
