Thank you. Link you posted not working. Have actually reached point where i have all the troops I need, aside from maybe a vet squad with flamers. Once i start my new job need to think about vehicles. Thinking ramshackle games rhebok APCs for vets, and taurox with wheel conversions for scions. Will also have to pick up some plasma guns and melta guns to arm scions.

I see. To be honest I conciously avoid anything that needs a flight stand, as they always fall over. After 30 hours of painting its not nice to see something fall off a table. I do plan to put in a knight titan into the scion list at some point, but think ill stick to a standard with slight conversions, as squats use imperial tech. Be nice to have a model that shows some linkage.

Thank you. I had wanted some storm troopers for my standard mech vet list, and had decided that i had wanted to reuse damaged squats. When you buy them second hand there are always a few that have been melted down by plastic glue, or badly converted.
Started with the two squads of five i had painted, then i sculpted another 15 to bulk these squads up to 10 each and get a command squad. Ive now sculpted another 25, to make 3 melta squads, a flamer squad, and another command squad. Tempted to sculpt another 5 to make flamer squad a 10 man squad, but may leave this till a later date. Its one of those armies that keeps expanding, but i need to stop sculpting so i can get painting.
As a sculpt they are quite simple, no small detailed bits, lots of big flat areas. Makes it an easy but effective sculpt, and looks harder to do than it actually is.

Cant get much more done till I get some dettol and strip the paint off the arms i've got. Have got some painting done, but getting the dark angels green sections painted is taking ages, so not much progress worth showing.
In consequence I'm going to sculpt the last 5 troop i wanted for my flamer squad, documenting it step by step. Plan is to sculpt one then pressmould it to make four duplicates.
Boring stage first, building a base to sculpt on. I have some shoes off a squat someone else chopped up, so i put some sprue bits on. I also shaved off the pouches around the squat legs.
Next step is to put some miliput on. No need to be to neat, as i can shave it down. Key thing is to get it into the right rough shape, and make sure its not leaning backwards or forwards.

Once milliput dries out I sculpt armour panels on back and front, which is tidied up once it hardens. Then added shirt to sides of panels. I then had to shave down the top of the model, having made it too tall.
After letting it dry again, i added the collar and gave the model a brown wash. This helps me see any buts that need shaved down. When puttig on the collar i always make it to tall, so i can shave it down for a smoother finish (not sure why this picture is upside down). It then let it harden, then sculpt helmet orb, and boot cuffs (i assume thats what they get called?). Next step will be press moulding. Prefer to do it now before adding backpack, as the gap between back pack and helmet causes issues when press moulding. I could add visors and helmet fin, but prefer to do it after press mould so the models arent all looking in the same direction.

Bit more work done on scion. Extended front armour plate a bit, filled in sone gaps, and smoothed out some bumps. Gave it green wash, which will hopefully not show any more flaws to fix.
Also, finally painted the dark angels green base onto my squats. Still got black though, which tends to be more fiddly and annoying. Will highlight after that, then metal, then beards.

First successful press mould. First three attempts where disasters as I couldn't make a mould where the sides lined up.
The detail on this one is okay, though one side is a bit awful, if salvageable. Will shave stuff fown with a craft knife, and resculpt where necessary.

Thanks for the support. Only 5 scions left to do then thats them done. Got 4 rejected press moulded scions so far, and 2 useable, so need to practice my mould making. If i did it again i would prob try a resin mould instead.
On plus side begining to paint the black on my squat vets, so should have some progress shots on them soon.

Black fully applied to plasma, commanders, and standard bearer.
Also, though not too clear in pick, I smoothed down the scions and resculpted the scion's collars. Also got some helmet fons on them.

First attempt at beards. Tried drybrushing with white, but it looked crap so I added some grey to mix to tone it down a notch. I then half drybrushed and half stroked the paint on. Relatively happy as it looks like my older squats.
Newly painted guy on left, old paintjob on right.
Also found time to add a bit of depth on the skin of the squats i had already painted. Not sure if it was the different wash i had used, but the skin on my older paint job was a bit flat. Added some elf flesh, then a elf flesh/ skull white highlight and they look much better.

Thanks. All vet squads so 3 squads with 3 meltas, 2 with 3 plasma, and 2 command squads with 3 plasma. Once i'm done painting I aim to convert 3 heavy flamers to switch in and out of the meltagun squads. I am envisioning them having added heat sheilding, and a closed visor. Should be a fun sculpt.

Thank you. The shoulder mounted guns are just conversions of the old rogue trader heavy bolters. I aim to show how I made them later, when I make some for my scion list. Nothing complex, just chopping off a few bits and reassembling with plastic glue.

Also, beards done on vets. Look much better for it. Getting near the end.

Not much painting, but managed 1st half of dettol bathing. Did the trick mostly, but getting paint of squat arms is painful.
