"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

I only have a few hobby goals.

1) Sci-fi terrain, most likely of the Necromunda variety.

2) 8-12 mounted Old West cowboys (patiently waiting for the sculptor to actually make them though...so that's a bit out of my hands).

3) Polish the Elbowtech battletech rules for people.

I don't normally make resolutions, but I think I have to this year.

1) Finish painting the following armies: Mantic Orcs, Mantic Goblins, Mantic Ogres (from KoW KS 1 and 2), and samurai.
2) Not buy any models until resolution 1) is fulfilled.

Now showing The Fellowship of the Ring, along with some Dreadball Captains!

Painting total as of 4/13/2024: 31 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain

Painting total for 2023: 79 plus 28 Battlemechs and a Dragon-Balrog

No resolutions. Why say "I won't do this..." when I know perfectly well I will? Or "I'll do this...." when I know I won't?

I haven't had much time to play or paint in the past 6 months but have made some purchased so I want to actually take those models out of their boxes and put them together!
Also on the list is find some new on sprue empire knights...Have looked at many a store and can't find any I need like 16+ but not paying some of the outrageous prices I've seen.

I also want to play more this year, going to try out Age of Sigmar Christmas Eve day I think so that will be a start. I need to scratch my itch to play warhammer or any table top game!
Bonus: got my brother in law x-wing for Christmas so hopefully I don't spend much on that since I'll probably get into that game since I gifted it to him haha

Mine would be to actually paint something. 2016 - haven't even touched a brush. :(

The good news is for 2016 I bought like, 8 minis? So my pile didn't grow a lot.

Great idea for a thread

It will be interesting to check this at the end of 2017 and then see how people have done

Mine would be:
- Get the Conan boardgame stuff all up together and painted, then have some straining of mighty thews.
- Get stuck in with a bloodbowl league
- Finish off a 1980s West Germany terrain setup for Team Yankee, got all of the stuff now need to put it together!

Finish my Khorne Bloodbound army and use it to claim a mountain of skulls and an ocean of blood for the Blood God.

And also do something with those two boxes of Betrayal at Calth in my cupboard. I've been waiting for inferno to come out before I choose a legion finally.

Only games i know i'll be able to get games for will be 30k and bloodbowl, so would like to just focus and get what i have for them finished.

Trouble is i have 3 legions that all need more stuff, but i can just use them as shattered legions and resist buying any more.

1. No buying new stuff, no matter how good the deal (I have loads to do me, and we're saving up for a bigger house)
2. Forge a path to my hobby desk
3. Organize all hobby stuff
4. Get on with painting

1. Don't by any new models.
2. Paint what is in my stash.
3. Sell those models/games I no longer use.
4. Improve as a painter

My guess is I won't do any of the above and will be making these same resolutions next year, particularly if we get new Death Guard/Nurgle models.

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...

1. Don't buy any more figures - no exceptions
2. Go to Salute '17 in April and break #1
3. Put the new purchases in the ever growing 'to be painted' pile and forget about them
4. Have more ideas / inspiration and start more projects without finishing any of the multiple WIPs already on the workbench
5. Get to December '17 and realise that I still haven't made a dent in the lead / plastic / resin mountain
6. Make the same resolutions for 2018

I feel there's a vicious circle going on here...

2. Finish painting my Eldar
3. Focus on getting more terrain done
4. Try to get at least 2 games a month in
5. Either paint or sell my Empire and Wood Elf armies
6. Rebase my old Terminators and Guard heavy weapons teams

Haha.. would like to think otherwise, but there is a good possibility that a fair number of people on this forum will follow this routine!

Letter to myself format:

1) Get more games in - this is IMPORTANT - friends keep canceling or not making plans (but this year was our initial starting year, and it's the holidays now so it's been understandable thus far)

2) a)No buying models* until backlog is finished, J. That includes GW, no point starting a traitor legion army if 8th is right around the corner and you don't even know if you'll want to play it at that point. Build and paint your Khorne daemons, add them to your Nurgle daemons and Tetrad, and call it good.
b)Get your Malifaux painted - do a sizeable chunk by Adepticon, you want a good hiring pool there right? Let's aim for being familiar with another master and having ~100 soulstones worth of models painted by then, not counting your translucent models.
c) Get your Guild Ball models painted up, there's a small amount of them anyway, this will make learning the game with your friends more fun because they'll be COLORFUL!
d) Seriously, no buying GW until this is all done. No more Malifaux either.

3) Make room for things on your shelves, stop keeping cases of minis on the floor. Get rid of and sell things as needed.

*Only exception is The Other Side kickstarter, but limit that heavily if you do it at all, you don't really know how much it's going to get played once it comes in a year later.

Well, reducing my backlog is one aim.

1. Finish Circle army with all models painted. Its half way.
2. Painting BB team to be played in a league. Not sure what team to choose.
3. Getting highly competitive combined 40k army playable consisting of Eldar, GK, and Mechanicus.
4. Unpainted Bloodbound army deserves to get painted after its performance in a league. Guess no time.

I don't really do resolutions but I do have some plans for 2017.

First up is get my Swedish army for By Fire and Sword, I'm about half way so far.

Next up is to get a Bloodbowl team painted. Probably Orcs, Lizardmen or maybe the Dwarf if the new ones are out before I start.

I also want to finish enough AoS Khorne and 40K Tyranids that I can play 1k point games fully painted.

After and inbetween the above my plan is to paint whatever I feel like. There is no shortage of unpainted miniatures in my house.

Focus on one project and one project only. Don't get distracted and end up with a bunch of small collections that end up in the pile of shame. Mime right now is Salamanders.

Thought for the day: Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
30k Ultramarines: 2000 pts
Bolt Action Germans: ~1200 pts
AOS Stormcast: Just starting.
The Empire : ~60-70 models.

I'll pick some I know I can stick to

Buy stuff

build some of the stuff

paint some of the stuff I build (that means you Darklands conversions, and Genestealer cult)

think about using some of the stuff I paint to play with

actually play a few games, probably, honest I will, (this part of the resolution is theoretical only and in no way represents a commitment to actually follow through with it)

1) Play more games. This one is easy as I barely played this year. Goal is at least once every two week.

2) Work on my tabletop wargame. And I mean it. Seriously.

3)Finally sell my Necrons and Dark Eldar.

I ask myself this every year, and write a list every year. Typically, I have a 50% completion rate.

Some highlights for this year are:
1. Actually, maybe buy more than I did in previous years.
2. Keep making and playing games of my own!
3. Maybe get some of those games someplace useful
4. Keep exploring new game systems
5. Paint a few odds and ends

You can see the detailed list and photos on the blog...

I just made another couple today...

4) Replace my aging hobby tools and brushes (been meaning to do this for a while). This includes replacing my ill-fitting paint racks, replacing one of my two lamps which isn't strong enough...basically upgrading my paint station to where it should be.

5) Play more games. I've painted 230+ miniatures this year, and aside from some board games, have only played maybe 10-15 tabletop games (moving didn't help). I need to get out and play more games, meet more people. I give up when I get to an area when I don't have friends around.

After gaming for years I have only just started to paint within the last month so mine is rather basic.

1) Finish painting the Walking Dead all out war Wave 1 and retail exclusive releases including duplicate walkers before Wave 2 arrives in May.
1.1) As part of the above, stop avoiding non-zombie models and get eyes sorted (first attempt went well, subsequent two attempts have gone poorly).
2) Paint Walking Dead wave 2 plus wave 2+ retail exclusives before the end of the year.
3) Finish custom monochrome modular board and terrain to match the miniatures.

Hey this is a good idea for a thread. Okay, so I have 3 main goals in the new year.

1) Paint all the Minis in my Conan Miniature kickstarter set
2) Buy/Scratch build more terrain. Enough to fill a 4x4 board for various skirmish games (I need a total of 12 pieces and I currently have 7)
3) Finish my Lord of the Rings project...or at least the first few models I need for the first couple of missions.

Those are the main ones I have now, the big one is actually the Conan set as it came with 100+ minis. A fried of mine also went in on the Kickstarter but he has no experience painting and would like me to teach him so it shouldn't be a boring one to achieve.

Backup goals include
1) paint 1000pts of Gutbusters for AoS
2) paint a 4500pt Orc and Goblin army for 9th age

Oh, and as always STOP BUYING MINIS!....or at least limit buying to stuff I actually need to complete projects and not impulse buy.
