Thanks for the subs guys!
More progress today. I got the front of the apartment block modelled and almost ready for paint. I've gotta mortaring job to do on it before, but otherwise it's pretty much done (will be adding a lot more details later, like cables etc...). Now for the rest of the alley!

Did you get round to testing your brickwork? Would love to see the results!

New update, the apartment building has progressed! (still need to make more venetian blinds...)

I stressed some bricks to make it seem like the building has stood for some time. I will be adding filler to simulate mortar soon - this will tie the whole piece together more.

More details to add, including this partially built fire escape:

I also need to add another smaller service shutter below the fire escape. Once all this is done, it'll be ready for painting!

It's all very naked at the moment, like a figure with just primer, so I'm hoping so! Thanks

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...

Excellent updates, really enjoying this coming together. Great use of the wooden detailing strips for window lintels and 'whatever the strip round the middle of the building is called' (don't know the technical terminology for this!) That fire escape is a gorgeous model - is it an etched brass kit?

I call it the mid-lintel

This is a photo etched model! It's from Wildhare Models in the US - it's Ken Hamilton's company. It's O-scale so it's a little out of scale for the diorama, but with it being high up and away from the figures, I'm hoping to get away with it. Still a lot more to build on it (including scratch styrene to get it away from that inherent flatness of etched models) which I will show soon!

On a serious note, this work is superb. Absolutely brilliant. Unfortunately I haven't got around to playing around with the foamboard MagosBiff90 sent me yet (I've got 3 tanks and 30-odd Guardsmen to paint first :( )

I did a lot of testing beforehand, figured out that if you water down some wall filler then you can spread it over in large amounts and very quickly, wiping it away leaves a convincing mortar effect. The important thing was to dig some of it out before it hardened completely (have to do this quickly) else it left a smooth finish - spoiling the brickwork! Weathering was the key to the secret.

Thanks guys. Still have some more painting to do on it - like the lintels and windows, but I'm happy with it. The fire escape is actually the wrong scale, but given it's up in the air and away from the telling scale of the figures, it shouldn't look out of place. Updates will be few in the next two weeks as I've not got a day off between now and then!

Thanks guys. When pointing this way, just have lots of cocktail sticks on standby - and don't do too much in any one go, it dries quicker than you can get to it
