You mean having more bruising through washes? Or literally having some of the roots busting through the skin?

Through washes, Blue and purple ones like you see when you get a nasty splinter and your skin reacts by swelling up blue and try to push it out and really close to the splinter its kinda red.

Got another squad of blightkings done! (code named lilac ) Please keep in mind I am aiming to get this army painted to as high of a quality as I can without spending to much time on it. I am a father of one with one on the way and work 10-12 hour days, 6 days a week. I just cant spend all the time in the world on highlighting and layering. That's why I am trying to make the army unique with conversions and theme. Thanks for taking it easy on me. I am intimidated by some of you all's painting ability

Still have to paint the bases and do a final comb over of the fine details. I plan on doing lots with the bases to all 20.. once all 20 are painted up.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
WIP bloab rotswpaned. Still quite a bit of work to do! No tree or plants for this guy! Didnt want to distract from the awesome model detail and he has his own story anyway!

These are awesome! Would love to play against an army like this! Your painting is pretty good, and i'm sure we all understand having your time constrained. Keep up the awesome work!

Ok finished up Bloab! Spent about 1-2 hours on all. those. god damned. blisters. I also edge highlighted his armor..something I rarely do. I'm usually content to drybrush. Not much to report, but I just wanted a finished picture on "file"

Next up 5 more blight kings, glotkin and the converted harbinger of decay!

OK! Back with another update on this army. Finished Glotkin. Again it took several HOURS to paint every little blister. But it was worth it. I think the pop of color is stunning and helps to liven up a bland palate of the rotting flesh color. What an amazing miniature to paint. I had actual fun painting these guys. Since painting can sometimes feel like an obligation or a chore.. it was such a great feeling. So much attention to detail with the sculpts. (skulls being swallowed by flesh, and nurglings hiding in broken horns ) I love how Ethrac (the mage) is just stabbing totems and wizardry tools right into his brother for later use. Also.. yes Otto (brother on top) and Ghurk (hulking monster) both weep for their dead parents and friends that were killed by invading imperial hordes. I like tying the fluff and tiny details when I can!

Very proud of my results. Next up is the harbinger of decay conversion I worked on earlier...

Replying to the og quetion, I'm not sure how useful this would be in AOS as I want to run a 40k nurgle army, but maybe you could get some use from this guy's tutorial on greenstuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0bOn8ch8is&t=27s

I'm sure you could easily adapt that to make more plant-like growths instead of festering sores and such.

Also, Know you have heard it 100 times already, but those models are brilliant. It really does look like you spend an assload of time on them.

Thank you for the very kind words. I will certainly review that video!

I set out to have a truly unqiue army. The idea of decay and entropy constantly breaking down walls of order that repel equilibrium with artificial barriers is mind boggling fascinating. That's why nurgle (ork 40k orks for that matter) appeal to me. I wanted to try and represent how I see that principle. Plus the blightkings kit is fething amazing

Still looking so good! This thread gets better with each new pic you post. Well done on both your modelling and painting skills sir!

I'm doing my own thing because it's fun. And it takes longer, which means more entertainment value for my cash. So there

I find these lichens growing around my house/in the mountains. I've used them for a couple Nurgly plants.

Here's one, meant to look like a sort of alien tree.

Salabasama, Have you had the lichen decay or degrade at all? I'm affraid of an excelerated decay rate..being on nurgle models and all

I kid. Ahemm... anyways. I have been working on my "count as Harbinger of Decay." Even got the conversion approved by the TO's for NOVA OPEN. The current model is a dude in a cloak pointing his stinky finger while sitting on a bony horse. MEH! I went with a nurgle warrior/plague drone centaur type monstrosity! Since the Harbinger is a mortal riding a demonic mount...I figured the drone would work perfectly as the "mount" as they are demons, while Orhotss Demonspew would work as the "rider". Added a nurgling doing a "hang ten" on his back. The hardest park was building the torso from scratch. Afterwards I thought maybe I should have gone more bloated beer belly dad bod type.. but I kind of like the swol AF "doesn't skip ab day" style. I'm quite happy with the results. Oh added a toothed maw and disgusting tongue cause why not. Here are some WIP pictures.. in order of WIPness

Just have everything glued in place here.

Started filling in the space between the torso and the mount.

And finally... the last stage. aka.. his final form

I do not like the trees at all. I love the fungi.

The fungi reminds me of cordysepts. Google those things. Would be perfect if your plague marines had a lot of them, and you combined that with some imperial guards they have infected.

Although I understand the inputt is a bit late and that your are happy with the resoult.

But 5 minuts with cordysepts on youtube is some scary gak. :-)

Sweet flytaur. I've had them lose some shape due to rough handling, but the thing's survived pretty well. It wasn't dried or anything, but it did sit around the house in a styrofoam cup for about a year before I used it. It's covered in auto primer and white Tamaiya primer and green ink, though. Those might be giving it some reinforcement.

So NOVA is upon us! I have building and painting and converting this army in an anticipation for quite some time. Have finished my bases and I wanted to share this with you. This is my Grand tournament army. (GHB2016), minus a squad of marauders (I will be using zombies as maruaders) and a couple nurglings. I hope I have contributed to the community. This was my first "blog" and I enjoyed the journey! Thanks for viewing!!

Awesome!!! Sounds like a great conversion. And with lightest coming up and the nurgle's gardener being featured it's a very relevant theme! Post pictures when the demon prince is done!! I use my harbinger as a demon prince in 40k too.

With the upcoming Nurgle release I decided to start working on this army again!

I got to thinking about demons. If they are just coalesced energy and emoution..would it make "sense" to have trees and plants sprouting off them?? Or should I keep it to just mortals?

Either way, as an arborist I always look to the natural world for inspiration. I rememberd a group of flowering plants that use flies as pollinators instead of other insects. So hence my WIP plague drones..pollinators in Nurgle's garden!

And this is my inspiration for what the flower will look like..Rafflesia spp. It's parasitic. It uses host vines to grow and bursts open, displaying a 1 meter wide flower that smells like rotting flesh to attract insects for pollination.

I was originally going to use artificial flowers, but decided on this paper stock scrapbook flower at Michaels when I saw it was the PERFECT shape!

I just can't decide if it makes "sense" to have trees growing off the drones...as they aren't actual living entities. I may still do it and throw logic the bird.

Great paintjobs and conversions man! Your counts as harbinger is badass, and with the reveal of the new Pusgoyle Blightlords he looks like he'd fit in nicely with them
