The names on the paints will make sense and actually have some correlation with actual colours, so that's some value right there.

If you have any of the old metallics I would LOVE to take them off your hands.

Glistening Green, Amethyst Purple, Polished Blue, Shining Gold are still amazing!

I would happily buy any of those sealed bottles from you!.

Coat D'Arms still sell those, under not-very-different names. HMG makes CDA and used to make the original Citadel lines up to the screw-tops.

Vallejo also have a very nice line of coloured metallics in their Premium Acrylic Polyurethane range, and Warcolors have a nice selection of metallic colours as well, I got a set, though I haven't used mine properly yet.

They're exactly the same. All that changed is the labels.

GW's paints changed, as they went to a different manufacturer. The old manufacturer kept making the range under the Coat D'arms label.

I asked them about some of the Citadel paints but they didn't seem to know which ones they were. I was after Go Fasta Red and Lightning Blue, they probably do the colours still but I haven't wanted to risk buying them in case they aren't right.

I haven't found that. maybe they just don't like the finish on certain paints.

Me to, I've decided to keep some unopened for nostalgia purposes. I think I have an unopened Warlock Purple and Bad Moon Yellow from the Ork and Eldar paint set.

Go Fasta Red would be either Blood Red or Ruby Red - pretty sure it would be Ruby Red. Not sure about Lightning Blue.

From the screw-tops onwards, GW's golds changed completely. Burnished gold and Shining Gold swapped places, with BG becoming lighter and SG becoming darker.

In the Coat D'arms range, Shining Gold is Bright Gold. I think Burnished Gold is Brass... never used it, so not entirely sure. I tend to use Bright Gold and washes for everything.

Yep, thanks Insaniak, I got Evil Sunz Scarlet from GW and it's not too bad a match.

Thanks again

So the Burnished Gold I have is, I think, the black flip top after the screw top, that's still the same(ish) as the ones in the new range? From the chart Auric Armour Gold. If you don't use citadel paints you aren't going to know

Compared to the newer mixtures going hard, I still have some 1994 purchased Imperial Strike Green, Codex Grey, Nightworld Blue and Sulphur Desert Yellow kicking around.

I think I got those when they were packaged with some others in one of the old Epic paint sets.

The Coat D'Arms stuff is good, I have some of it. I find it to be a little thinner than the old GW stuff, but those bottles are 15-20 years newer, too.

I have 2 sealed sets of Citadel paints from 2009 and busted out one of the boxes recently.

Overall, the paints held up well. There are some that have real problems. Noticed the following:

- Blood Red got goopy. It's very thick and I have to use a retarding medium with it.

- Same with Enchanted Blue and Warlock Purple. Feels like the stronger colors are the worst off.

- Iyanden Darksun separated. The pigment is at the bottom, and there's this watery mix at the top with a dark green hue and white around the edges. When I stir it, it goes back together, but it separates again overnight.

- Shining Gold became chunky in the sealed pot. It doesn't flow from the lid the way it used to, now it's pooled up there.

The golds and gold-ish colours from that range were all bad for that. Tin Bitz was the worst... Was generally goopy before it even made it to the store.

That said, it will be a sad day when my shining gold runs out. It’s a key part to a lot of my detail work.

The Coat D'Arms version is a perfect substitute. Shining Gold is one of my favorite colors, and the "reprint" by DCA is great.

The Coat D'Arms is a substitute for the original Shining Gold. The Shining Gold from the screwtop bottle era onwards is a completely different colour.

So no, other than to real die hard collectors, the old paints aren't going to be worth any more than the Coat D'arms range sells for now.

That's the weird part, as I keep hearing it both ways. Every time the Coat D'arms range comes up, it's either still the exact same as the old GW paints, or "almost but not quite" according to people. I still keep meaning to pick some up to do some old school Ultramarines for funsies.

They're the same. Including slight variation in the same colours from batch to batch - just like the old GW days!

According to Rick Priestley, Goblin Green was mixed by hand in batches at GW (not sure why that colour and not the others; it was the 80s, I suppose), which explains why no two pots were ever alike.

True. But the original Shining Gold is actually gold, instead of some bright coppery/brass color.

Hi all, I finally got round to taking pics of the paints I have. Realistically id be looking to sell in one batch if possible.

I have also taken a pic of the batch of paints which have already been opened, some of these are nearly empty some of them are nearly full I know the washes seem good to use still, no idea about the rest of the opened paints so take that as you will I just thought id throw them in there.
