Oh, some chatter has come out (Japanese game blog). Guess there's a 40k manga series coming out and this squad of 12 are the characters. It's a Japan exclusive. The 12 issue series comes with a different one each issue each week or month. Still unsure of the scale or if a bust though... Someone mentioned a data card too

Man, once Hobby Link Japan gets its talons in you, there's no wriggling free. I don't even know what they are, but I'm pretty sure they'll end up on my private warehouse back order list.

Also, why is "collection" in Katakana? Did the Japanese never form a word for "to collect"? I find that hard to believe.

Are those marines the squad from the movie, or is there another movie coming out?

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Allegedly not.. On the same facebook page some-one asked "This looks like a normal Marine... What am I missing?", to which the reply from GW Harajuku was "I can assure you that you wont get a normal Marine though".
Looking at the picture of "Brother Castor", the base is labelled as 32mm. It's been a while since I built any marines, but I don't remember their bases being that big. Does this mean that the figure pictured could be proportionally bigger than your average tac marine?

Edited because embedding from Facebook doesn't work.

Welcome back from obscurity then, as 32mm is the new standard base size for Space Marines, has been like that for some time now..

Because collection is english and they opted to use loanword for it. Lots of words in japanese for which there are native words but loanword is more common. You hear ドア(doa from door) more than 戸(to, native word for door)

And very rarely you see loanword in other than katakana

Or they come in sealed packs like those collectible Lego figures?
12 to collect and you get a random figure in a pack. Trialled in Japan away from the Euro/US market incase it's a flop and has negative connotations?

Little girls are just as much into it as the Japanese. Japanese little girls, doubly so.

All my daughter watches are videos of people opening blind bags/ boxes and seeing what's in there. I don't get it. My students all do it too.

Sometimes at recess the kids pretend they're Youtubers and opening boxes to tell their subscribers about their contents.

Perhaps this is GW Japan's new tactic to get more females in the hobby? Start 'em young by offering them up in blind boxes! GENIUS!

Totally going to buy some this summer and let my daughter open them! All according to keikaku...

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Ditto, it's all my daughter does as well. It's quite a smart move to try and get the blind bag generation into the hobby if that's the case.

What like, as in you will get an Ultramarine instead? Punchline is, they are the very normalest of all Space Marines.

I want these. I like the concept.

They should do single marines in boxes. Or bags. But they'd have to be priced reasonably.

Have you ever seen a GW product that was shown unpainted?

$30 is reasonable right?

I'm not talking about captains. Just normal marines with a bit of personality. A fancy scout sergeant. A tactical with one MKIII and one MKIV leg.

Anyone else notice these are listed as Series 1? Very curious. If these turned out to be prepainted fogures, I'd be all for them. Hopefully we'll find out soon.

I guess my question was more "why a loan word?" Apparently the answer is "English words are cool." I suppose the English equivalent would be saying "Tarjay" instead of Target or "garage" instead of carhole.

Also a 'collection' is more of a modern concept, sure you could say hmm... Atsumeta mono? Atsumerareru no mono?

Or something, but it would just be 'stuff you've gathered up', 'stuff you can gather up'. Collecting as a hobby can warrant a distinct term which in Japan today usually means reaching into English.

Well as I said Japanese has lots of loanwords that are these days commonly used. Many of those btw are actually from Portugal owning to the fact that Portugal was actually one of the countries that first made contact with Japan and had lots of influence. Lot bigger than England whom Portugal tried to block from having contact with.

Even the ubiquitous Arigato is a loan word from Portuguese!

Not to mention Tempura.

Who knew that everyone on here was a Japanese student. I've lived here for 12 years and never knew arigato was Portuguese.
I am curious what these end up being. GW has struggled in Japan. Warhammer needs a lot of space which is in short supply here. This might be a way in.

Actually no. That's extra polite form from adjective arigatai, thankful(though more literally could be read as difficult to be. Probably because for Japanese being in depted is something they feel they have to pay back to so they are basically they feel in depted. This is just my guess though based on kanji's used for arigatai), conjucated to form arigatou and combined with polite "to be" copula gozaimasu(which in turn comes from verb gozaru which, much like kudasaru, conjugates into conjucation form rather unusually gozai to which polite ending masu is added)

In similar vein ohayou gozaimasu(good morning) comes from adjective hayai so basically you literally state "it's early".
