Aye, right now its a bit of a mess. Some of the missions are hilariously poorly balanced due to the RNG nature. Spawn in a small room, pop open the only door, only to immediately get gunned down by a crapton of ranged opponents and a Dreadnought waiting for you there.

That and the endgame being insanely easy to just walk all over, if you are playing the heavy gunner or tactical class. Grab a power hammer and suppersion shield and use a plasma pistol and inferno pistol as ranged. Easy wins all day long

The game is.. okay right now. I've put some hours into this current build and while it's a massive step up from the previous versions, I still feel they've got a long way to go, it all still feels very alpha stage to me.

I've also stumbled across the following, in no particular order, personal gripes:

- "Muffin" is not allowed as a character name for some reason. Back to calling the Inquisitor "Punch Munchkin" it is then.
- The voice acting is all over the place. Weird delivery of some very weird lines. "I FEEL GREAT! I JUST KILLED A HELBRUTE! Oh by the way, the Space Marine is dying."
- They keep referring to a massive space ship as a "fortress monastery", wut.
- Annoying camera controls.
- Out of sync execution animations. It was supposed to be a cool killing animation of a Helbrute, where you tear the head off and stomp on it(?), but it looked like a poorly choreographed mess with bad clipping and weapon placement.
- The loot drops are piss poor, though this may be to punish people for going with cinematic mode instead of whatever the hardcore mode is called.
- During a VIP mission the VIP model was twice as big as every other model out there, not to mention as dumb as a bad of hammers.
- Slain Alpha Legion operatives spawn daemons of Nurgle, but slain Death Guard operatives do not.
- Turret emplacements are nine out of ten times utterly useless, despite the games insistence that you should hop on and let rip.
- I play an Inquisitor who was a Death Cult assassin, so every once in a while she hisses the phrase "Precious blood" when killing enemies, which feels pretty heretical, but YMMV.
- Some models still feel unfinished, like the Sentinel pilot when you destroy his vehicle.
- Hydra anti-air emplacements are used to represent mortars, again, wut.
- The Leman Russ Eradicator cannon is presented as an energy weapon and not a gun that shoots nukes.

Again, YMMV, these are my personal gripes so far. I'll still power my way through it when I've got the time, but so far, it's just okay.

So I got this game on console.....unplayable due to a bug which prevents mission progression and most importantly access to the in game store to sell or craft your inventory down. Full inventory means you can't take new missions and they haven't fixed the issue in two weeks.

Games Workshop really needs to knock off this shotgun approach to electronic games. Giving out their IP to any studio with a programmer who wants it is a bad idea.

Case in point. In the last year I've seen no less than 10 different 40K themed games show up on Steam. They're all garbage.

Remember 40K: Space Marine? THAT was a good game, with a rather intriguing story. But, we will never know what happens to Captain Titus...

Ever played Vermintide 2? It's a fantastic game.

But aside from those two, lately the GW electronic games have just been awful.

And the total war games. Outside of those, yeah, every game has been a failure, or gone out with a whimper (i.e. gladius: relics of war. basically Civ without the diplomacy)

Armageddon is a decent turn-based game, certainly not garbage tier.

Meh. SM was the first in the current series of disappointments. Storywise its an incoherent mess, mechanic-wise the murder-healing space marine is a complete lore break, and the game is about 7 or 8 hours long in total. It was actually really bad. Pretty for its time, but had very little to offer.

Most of the Steam games showing up these days are mobile ports, and it really shows. [Though in this case, it was given to a studio that just couldn't handle it, despite having done top-down Action-Smashers before. They made a lot of stupid promises when their first priority should have been making a small and functional baseline to build off of- the multiplayer, always online and grand galactic whatever was an unnecessary burden.].

Outside of dawn of war 1, vermintide 2 and the total war games, modern GW licensed products are garbage.

Armageddon is a joke compared to Final Liberation (even absurdly dated and slightly buggy as it is), and very little matches Chaos Gate (despite the same problems).

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

I got a refund from this one, yet another over ambitious 40k game that just does not live up to expectation, it calls itself a sandbox as well but there is not enough sand.

I think it could be fun for some, its just not what I expected at all nor the sort of game I want to play.

I was hopping that Inquisitor Martyr was a great game, I give it time after launchement but, nothing, I stoped playing it.

Now I buyed SM for 2€ and I'm having fun. It is not a great game, but I am having fun. My favoutirte game form GW was Dawn of War 2.

Decided to reinstall and play it some more, forcing myself through the grind. There is a lot of that, especially with the missions not having a lot of variety (kill this, activate that, protect someone / something) and the drops being so-so most of the time.

At least I have a full bridge now so I can tinker with the healing implant and craft my own weaponry. Which is a bit.. odd, that they've put arbitrary waiting periods on the crafting of items.

And as I progress through the story more and more odd crap pops up. Voice acting is also still all over the place.

Y'know if they'd release a set of mod tools I bet this game could be made into something worth playing - given that the 40k modding community is one of the better ones out there.

Shame that'll never happen though.

Totally agree, only mods will give the game a future.

Eyup, their DLC right now isn't exactly doing all too well either judging from the Steam reviews.

I'd love to see the community crank out custom campaigns.

Mods are indeed the only wya to save the game currently. Neocore is too slowly putting out content, and balance overall sucks with each class being limited to one or two builds generally However that won't happen because it's supposed to be mmo-esque with everyone working together for the "events"and they don't have any protections against cheaters (even basic stuff like cheat engine). It seems they didn't really learn from their Van Helsing series at all sadly.

(And on top of that the game feels really poorly optimized, like it uses up way more resources than it should.)

Just wrapped it up after thinking the story would carry on for some time to come, but nope, it had to end on a very, very weak cliff hanger by shoving the credits into my face.

And what is the point of a moral system if there isn't even enough gameplay to fill the flipping thing up? I've had what? Two, maybe three choices between radical and puritan..

You can get a few more points from investigations, but yeah, very incomplete and tacked on system.
