Another company with a good product line are Trolls Under the Bridge - do a good range of Imperial Guard tank proxies, jungle and greatcoat infantry as well as a small range of 'not-terminators' (James Cameron exoskeletons, not marines)

For our bases I ended up just getting a mountain of the ones Onslaught sells. They're 25mm and "slotted" to accept five of their 6mm infantry.

I know the NetEA tournament pack says basing is pretty liberal, so I will probably use those, and stock 25mm bases for anything that will fit and look aesthetically pleasing. I might reduce some of the stands from 5 infantry to 3 in the cases of more elite infantry, but we'll see.

And moving up from here to 4k pts, etc... is totally doable. We omitted anti-air, and flyers altogether on purpose, just to start out, and have kept War Engines to a minimum for the time being. When we expand, it will be in those areas where the points will be much appreciated.

As it stands some of the local tournaments, like an upcoming big Epic event in Lancaster PA, play at 2500pts, which I find really interesting, as i'm told that is definitely on the quite-small side. I guess when you can't afford redundancies in your list, your tactical choices mean that much more.

One of the things Epic does quite well is scale up in points, and because of the 6mm scale you can go truly mental without needing the floor of a gym hall to play on.

One of my favourite ever wargaming memories was some 20,000pt(!) games played on a humongous board as a teenager, using the older 2nd Edition Space Marine ruleset. A dozen titans a side, entire Infantry and artillery companies and the like it was absolutely.. epic!

It looks like they might have flown to close to the sun on their vehicles and got a take down notice from GW?

"Here should be vehicles for 6mm wargaming. But unfortunately we were asked to remove them from our eshop."

All this talk of Epic has kind of got me wanting to start an Epic Tyranid army, but it doesn't seem like anyone makes a complete range for them. I've seen some people use smaller 28mm nids as monster nids at 6mm scale, but no matter how much I try they're always just going to look like small 28mm models rather than big 6mm ones.

Well, you could get the basic infantry from Onslaught (links numero uno y dos), some bigger beasts from Winter's Bioforge.

Erm, you haven't checked Vanguard Miniatures' website in a while then!

Centurion Battle Tank (Leman Russ proxy):

(compared to existing Leman Russ models)

Warrior IFV (Chimera proxy):

Also, the new plastic sprue also contains standard infantry (IG and Ork proxies) and some two vehicles, an Ork proxy thing and a Chimera proxy:

No, they aren't exact copies. But that could be said of the rest of Onslaughts and Vanguard's ranges as well. If you want them to look exactly like the GW/FW models, try to get some of those black market copies.

The Winter's Bioforge stuff looks nice. The Winter's stuff looks to cover the tank-sized nids quite nicely.

But there'd still be big gaps in the army, Hive Tyrants, Carnifex, Heirophant, Hierodule, Harridan, Zoanthropes, Biovores all come to mind.

This Termies look nice, I'm guessing they are the underground back alley ones that I can't get without knowing the secret handshake?

These look really awesome as well...

I was going to link to these conversions, but they look a bit paltry compared to the Winter's Forge stuff. Still, it might give a couple of ideas for filling one or two more giant-monster gaps.

(That's the basic stopgap trygon. I have a more involved version that's been WIP for about ten years...)

Not bad, though it has the problem I mentioned earlier of the gaunts looking a bit out of scale for 6mm monsters. The head and arms just don't look like the head and arms of a monster to me I wonder how it'd look with a Ripper head? As they have sharper features and smaller eyes that would maybe be better suited to it? Maybe they're a bit too small? Probably also need to downsize the talons somehow.

I think the tough one though is finding good alternatives to Hive Tyrants, Carnifex, Biovores, Zoanthropes and the bigger bio titans.

Like the stuff I mentioned on Ebay?

Most of my Orks have come from Vanguard, I received another £80 worth yesterday in fact, as Orks are supposed to look varied but for something like Imperial Guard I insist on a Leman Russ looking like a Leman Russ.

I think in background terms there would be a lot of room for variation, different chassis models depending on which forge world was making them (as long as it fits the 'main battle tank' mold.)

Realise this is a personal thing, but at least having these many options available (and new casts) helps give gamers options other than the vastly inflated eBay prices for GW originals, and I really think helps the hobby prosper.

Also if you contact them by email. Very nice range, they do some Greatcoat infantry that would be ideal for something like the Seige of Vraks or pre-heresy imperial army.

Just a quick question about Vanguard, for anyone that might know.

How do the Skinnerz plastics (from the sprue set) compare in scale to the metal Skinnerz (from the Defeat in Detail section), are they designed to be used alongside each other? Sorry if it's a bit of a silly question, but did wonder as the Vanguard 6mm Marine guys are a bit larger than the old Epic GW plastic marines.

The plastic Skinnerz are the same size as their metal counterparts, I think the only difference is that the metal ones have sliiiiightly thickened arms/weapons to make them more durable.

Thanks mate! That's great, the main thing is that I wanted to be able to mix in some of those plastic guys in amongst hordes of boyz.
