That's a tactful thanks, would be very surprised if there were anything malicious but that still doesn't mean it was done from a place of positivity.

Our pressganger was a member of our group before he joined the Pressgang, so my group luckily didn't lose much, since the is still the member of the group most enthusiastic and dedicated to the game. That is why he joined in the first place.

I think this was done for legal reasons (WOTC), but the timing is really bad with PP having its current disconnect with players

Said Wilson, “The Press Gang will always be a part of Privateer Press history.”

I think the actual quote was "The Press Gang... is history." and it was misrepresented above out of context.

When did the court ruling on the Magic Judges come out that they're saying forced them to drop the Press Gangers? From what I found there hasn't been a ruling yet on it. That they had a commemorative mini ready suggests this decision was planned already and a convenient excuse dropped into their lap?

Have had mixed dealings with Press Gangers. The first local one kept me from getting into the game because he embodied the "Page 5" mentality to the max. He was eventually kicked out of the store would go to. Second one get me into the game late MkII because he was far more into the funner aspects of the game. Though he ended up quitting due to growing tired one too many caster kills. He was never a fan of that being the always instant win mechanic.

We had a conversation about this one the other day.

I can't honestly attribute it to malice, or fault of anyone. It is a result of expansion, and that the program is as of now too big to honestly call it a volunteer program. With the amount of effort that our local guy has initiated to the program, past efforts of others that I know in other areas/ states, and the sheer amount of growth that PP has had in the past 2-3 years, you can't honestly give them grief on the sheer scale of keeping it going as long as they had.

In comparison to the old school GW support structure- There was a great improvement on PP's part, as opposed to the old GW days, but in the improvements, everyone should honestly see that the program was growing well past the point of no return. ( It's not necessarily a bad thing, it is just an evolution of successfully expanding the reach)

We are going to have some serious issues, though- In meta gaming, if Privateer Press does not initiate SOME sort of QAQC process, as they have had in their local reps and in grand scheme, to keep things on the up and up, and not fragment the community, ALA Games Workshop's bang up model of Tournaments, RT events, local metagaming Decision Making Processes.
As was attributed in one of your examples included, in things such as local yokel favorites, encroaching on the companies official stance, to favor their buddies. Regional authority, and all encompassing- False representation, as is attributed to TFG's that just sign up for free lickies and chewies for the sake of re-pitching them on Feebey.

The "Program" per say is probably going to be revamped, and any PM worth their salt would tone down what it had actually become, and predesignate it to local representation, and not to become such an encumbered logistical beast that the current form has become. Something as easily developed as communications department, or support organizational through regional distribution centers could easily evolve the program into a much more streamlined process.

In personal opinion, I hope that there continues to be some fan based/ inspired local game community support, if for no other reason then to keep people in the loop on changes, and to mitigate, and spread controls.

It was Page 5 mentality.
Play like you got a pair- taken to the extreme lead to the TFG syndrome that brought out the best in every human being that fell under the spell of using rules to be a ....TFG ( for better word)

Yeah, but Page 5 also had a rule that said that Page 5 is not an excuse for lack of civility or sportsmanship.

Bad attempt at humor in response to Spiralingcadaver's comment on taking the background to heart

But back to my original comment. It doesn't sound like the MtG Judge case has a ruling yet. Claiming that cause forced them to cancel it sounds fishy. As I said before, it looks like PP was given a convenient excuse for canceling a program they already were working to end.

Yeah, this all just happened to occur around when PP is making major changes in the rules and forum structure? And they just happened to whip up a going away gift mini for the PGs?

It does seem like a very pat story.

Given that the lawsuit was filed nearly a year ago, not terribly. While there's not been a ruling yet, existing case law makes it quite possible that the judges could win, at least in part. A lot of companies are reviewing their volunteer programs, and at least one I deal with has published new agreements and NDAs for its volunteers thanks to this.

THAT was part of the charm of the schism.

It drove people away, lead to consistent fragmentation of the early days of PP, and continued, until the additional discussion and renegotiation of the "Page 5 mentality" was scaled back.
Good times, that was also when I tabled playing, grabbed my popcorn, and watched the game evolve, and keep evolving into what it has become.

I think a lot of people took the idea the wrong way. The WAAC types cherry-picked what they wanted from the page and ignored the overall idea.

Sure, play like you got a pair - but if you forget the rest of the page, I've got a boot that will remind you that you've got a pair.

May I ask who has new agreements and NDAs for their volunteers?

If it's for a fight club, I understand your reticence.

Every software company running an Alpha program, and a good portion of their Beta programs are usually under NDA. Gaming Betas (and some portions of the Alpha Tests) are usually under either a volunteer, buy-in, or (more commonly) both.

4 instead of 5 meant that it was the page about Cryx backstory. Hence:
“He took the cryx story to 11. Did I mention he was kicked out of the store? Bringing in cadavers was a no no. Though they still let in people who smell like one.... ”
Instead of being a jerk because of page 5, he was a necromantic evil sorcerer because of page 4. Hence joke laugh funny.
Damn, explaining them really kill jokes .
