Nice to be called an old foggy...

Though I started at 9.

And yes... believe it or not, we did have games before FoW and they weren't complicated and they were fun... Shocking I know that things may have existed before the 'FoW Hobby'...

So if WWII gaming didn't exist till FoW came out in 2002... What were we all playing for the decades before?

Rapid Fire was before FoW, it had people playing it in 15mm... and was fast and simple.

I didn't say that WW2 gaming didn't exist before Flames. I said that it didn't matter.

What an ignorant comment.

Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

WW2 gaming at the 20mm scale has been a staple of the genere since its inception as a hobby. 1/72 scale kits were the easiest way to get WWII models. To say it didn't matter is like saying Red box D&D didn't matter for modern RPGs.

That said, FoW made it accessible to the "Pick Up Game" Market with the "explosion" of wargaming in the late 90s and early Aughts.

That said, the question of scale is a personal preference.

Orphan scale...? I wonder who buys all the kits then as PSC sell more 20mm kits than 15mm... I'm not sure your comment is exactly right old bean.... perhaps only for your personal gaming environment.

I'm not sure about "orphan" but certainly less popular that 15mm for WWII in my experience.

The beauty of 20mm & 1/72 kits is the thousands of kits available and the hundreds of resin and metal ones covering ever vehicle imaginable. Not too mention plastic and metal figures, painted tanks, and literally thousands of options.

For certain uses, this is indeed an advantage. I have a modest collection of 20mm "modern" figures for skirmish games. I chose 20mm because for me they are still large enough for an individually based skirmish game, but the available 1/72 military vehicles are much cheaper and much more widely available than 1/56 scale kits for 28mm figures.

On the other hand, I don't see cost or availability as an issue with 15mm and WWII. I've never run across a need for a vehicle or gun that someone didn't make in metal, resin or plastic 15mm. On the other hand, 20mm is both less available and more expensive than 15mm, at least in my experience.

It also looks the best to me...

And that's something no one can argue with. If you like it, that's really the deciding thing.

I honestly can't stand Flames of War but I do quite enjoy Bolt Action (especially bigger games with smaller scales [particularly 1/72.])
