Supply drop arrived this morning. Luckily, these don't count against my 'No new stuff until you finish painting all this stuff you have lying around' rule, because I need (want) them to finish off the stuff I'm currently working on. Loophole! Shhhh!

I jumped straight in and painted up a coupe of the bracken bits to finish off my Corvax base. I think they add a nice bit of colour. The skulls will be used on the base of the Slaughter Priest I'm working on. Now that I have Death Guard Green I can start some of the DI Nurgle stuff. See! I needed this stuff!

Oops! I did it again. I had a weak moment during the week.

I've been busy with other stuff the last few months- work, buying and working on a couple of cars- one to drive every day, one to have fun in (budget racecar), and spending time with a girl. Absolutely zero painting has been done. With summer officially starting it's going to get even harder to motivate myself to sit here in my room and paint. I think I need to find a couple of games to get into 8th Ed. I still haven't played a single game of 8th yet.

I finally got back into painting a bit. I finished off the Death Watch Flyer, but haven't taken any new pics.

I started on the Dark Talon/Nephilim I bought at the end of last year. Assembled it in sections to make painting the cockpit easier. Drilled holes, super-glued in magnets so I can fit it out as either Dark Angels flyer. So far I just have the cockpit painted up. I did a dry run and fitted the rest of the fuselage together then realised how little of it will be visible once it's assembled.

Slow progress. I raided my bits box for Ravenwing bits and a suitable head for a pilot. Painted him up and got on with assembling and painting the rest of the flyer.

Then someone threw a spanner in the works, possibly Tzeench because his stuff has been moved off my painting list. The canopy disappeared from my desk. My other theory is that a short-sighted warp wraith mistook it for a sock and stole it away to the dimension of lost socks. Regardless, it's gone. I've been searching the bits shops on ebay, but haven't found one yet. What a PITA losing such a vital park of an expensive kit!

I will push on and hope one shows up before I finish painting the rest of the flyer.

I've been making slow progress. I found a canopy on ebay and it's crawling to me from Canada.

Work is keeping me busy and wearing me out, so progress will continue to be slow..

Damn. More than 2 months since I've posted. Life is busy and time for painting scarce.

I finally painted up my first Primaris Marine. Since the Death Watch codex came out I have decided to add a few Primaris to my DW.

I still haven't decided which chapter he's from, maybe I'll leave him as is since all my DW have molded shoulder pads.

In other news- I picked up a couple of drop pods cheap. Yeah, I know. Maybe by the time I finish painting them they'll be good again? One will become a terrain piece. The other will join the other drop pods when I get around to them. Undecided on which army will get them.

OH! I found that bloody canopy a few days ago! So I can finally finish off that Dark Talon/Nephilim.

Looking good! I wasn't aware of that barbed bracken product - pretty neat! Your horrors are also a treat, and the flyer is looking good.

The great thing about miniatures that, yeah, sometimes life will keep you away from the brush for months, but it will still be there when you get back!

Yeah, the bracken is pretty good. I haven't used any more of it yet, but I will.

The worst thing about miniatures is that when you get back to them you have to throw out the dried out paints! Grrr.... The old white lids survived much longer than the rubbish new pots.

Okay. Calling this done as soon as I do a couple of little touch ups I just noticed in the photos. Ooops!

I guess I'd better finish off the DA flyer before I start anything else..

Minor update. I broke my 'No New Stuff Until I Run Out of Stuff to Paint' vow. Again.

I decided to kitbash myself a Sammael for my DA army as the old, finecast model is old and expensive, and finecast. I ordered a Custodes jetbike sprue off eBay and raided my Ravenwing bits box.

First hurdle was how shot the RW legs were. They didn't reach the foot pegs. Hmmm... then I noticed that the GW Sammael had stumpy legs and the foot pegs mounted higher. No problem then, I'll move them.

Second hurdle was getting the Ravenwing legs with cloak to fit. Lots of carving needed there. In the end, the legs didn't quite meet in the middle, but nobody will see that.

I cut one barrel off each set of bolters, leaving me with a pair of storm bolters with sensors. I then cut up an old plasma cannon arm from a devastator and started putting it all together. I have a lot more to do but I'm happy with it so far.

I've also started transferring all my GW paints into dropper bottles. I'm sick of having to repurchase paints I've barely used because they dried out.

Sammael conversion looks promising - looking forward to how that turns out.

Damn, it's been over 4 months since I've posted an update. I've been slowly plugging away on Sammael, who still isn't finished, but enough progress to justify an update. Mostly done, except for the man himself needing highlights. Gluing the torso to the legs was stupid. So hard to paint the chest now. Grrr

Okay, Sammael still isn't finished, but I've gone back to the DA flyer to finish it off.

I used some small yellow highlights on the land speeders, so I thought I'd tie them together by using a WW2 German style yellow intake. Not sure if it's working or still too bright...

I also bought myself a Xmas present to strike fear into, well, all my armies lol. I have the KT starter box and a box of plastic Cadians somewhere to kitbash some acolytes from.

I'm calling it done. Time to move on..

Finally got the flyer finished, aside from a few touch-ups I may get around to one day. I had to dust the fuselage off before I could glue the canopy on. It does have all the options for both DA flyers thanks to the magic of magnets.

The Sammael conversion is excellent (gold eagle looks ace), and the colour choice for the yellow highlights really works against the DA green - not something you see often.

Miss the chaos stuff - more Tsons and daemons in 2019!

Yeah, I know.. I still have a decent TSons and Tzeench demons army hidden away, impatiently waiting it's turn. Maybe in time for 9th Ed.

Wow. Long time no post. I've been a lazy painter.

I consigned the faithful Brother Bethor to the Dettol Bath of Renewal a while back. He's finally finished, except for the banner. I've reused the dodgy original I painted up about 20 years ago. It looks suitably faded for a Sacred Banner..

The more I looked at the metal Azrael, the smaller and more delicate he seemed, so I enbiggened him.

Kitbash from a variety of kits. I still need to cut off the tiny termy shoulder pad and replace it with something more suitable for a chapter master, and a few other things.

I also kitbashed Belail ages ago for the same reason. He's a terminator that is barely power armour sized. He's in the undercoated and forgotten pile, along with the rest of my Deathwing models.

I've been slowly chipping away at this for the last few weeks, then had a big push the last couple of nights to finish it. I'm still not happy with the sword or the chest emblem, but not sure if I'll change them. I still need to finish off the Watcher.

Only a week or so since my last update. I'm actually getting motivated again. I have taken a week off work for R&R. That includes painting a couple more units, reading a book, doing a track day after prepping my car, maybe going mountain-biking, that kind of stuff.

Firstly, knocked off the Watcher to follow Azrael around.

Secondly, attacked that unit of scouts that I primed months ago. I'd only added a little Leadbelcher since then. So, today I starting base-coating and slopping some colour around. These are now 25-33% done.

Nothing special, just tabletop standard and not as good as usual (IMHO), but finished in less than a week.

Edit. damn, they aren't finished! I forgot the power cables to their sniper rifles.

I was trying to decide what to start next, then realised I still hadn't finished off the base for the DA flyer..

So, here it is! Now, what to start next?

I was triggered by the arrival of the new GW Contrast paints (REEEEEEE! ) to take another look at my stalled Thousand Sons army.

I like the colour scheme I was using, it was just too time intensive. So, after perusing colour charts and examples of the new paints I sauntered in to the local GW store and made a few purchases. No models, just Corax White, Baharroth Blue (to replace Skink Blue drybrush paint), Contrast Space Wolves Grey and Talassar Blue.

Now, almost all my 1K Sons were primed with Retributor Gold spray, as per Duncan's video, so I was hoping to avoid going back and repriming them manually. To that end I grabbed a pair of biker legs that were sitting within reach and primed both legs- one with Retributor Gold, the other with Corax White- and had a quick play. Results below in the photos.

Conclusion- I like the blue over white I also like the blue over gold, but not for this project. If I was to start Dark Angels again I think I'd use this as there are less layers of paint on that foot. I think it really looks like glossy DA green. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to throw down a layer or two of Corax White on all the areas I want blue or white. Oh well, I was starting with Sotek Green before, then Temple Guard Blue, then Skink Blue. I think I'll still be a tiny bit quicker with the new paints, but it will be easier to be consistent.

I couldn't decide what to paint next. Then I remembered that plasma is (apparently) awesome in 8th Ed, and I had an orphaned DA plasma cannon and another DA plasma cannon marine in my third copy of Dark Vengeance.

A couple more plasma devastators it is!

I tried not to spend too much time on them.

I dug out my old armies tonight and thought I'd post a few pics...

This is my 2nd ever army- The Purple Death Legion! Yes, I know all the legions got broken up into chapters, but Purple Death Chapter just didn't sound right.

I played a grand total of 1 game with them before work and life got in the way. I plan to boost their numbers with all the Primaris marines I've ended up with, and maybe play a second game with them one day.

There will be no photos of my first army.

The Sammael conversion turned out really nicely. The gold/red color combo on the cloak looks sharp.

I also love the base on him. A good use of detail there.
