I'm looking forward to seeing Ork Kommandos, Dark Eldar Wyches, Eldar Rangers, Autocannon Predators, Leman Russes with all the sponson-options, Ogryn, Kroot and Tyranids generally showing up on the table more frequently.

Never noticed the extinct Eldar option - I might have voted for that just for chuckles.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

The thing I'm looking forward to is it raining cheap drop pods and razorbacks/rhinos on ebay, so many delicious demi-company tears. I resisted the urge to gear up a gladius for my dark angles because I already had a competitive list, now I'm just quietly awaiting the days of 10 buck drop pods and 15 buck rhinos as people desperately try and get rid of transports they don't need in order to diversify their armies to be competitive.

Constantly being negative doesn't make you seem erudite, it just makes you look like a curmudgeon.

Might just pick up some of those. Can never have too many Drop Pods for Apoc games.

That's already possible with two quicker people.
It's the long set up and arguing about rules that drags games out.
Oh, and 200+ model armies.
50 model hoards would be nice though.

Not

"throwing several hundred dollars of books in the recycling bin"

but

"watching others throwing several hundred dollars of books in the recycling bin."

And nerfed riptides. And nerfed ghostkeels. And nerfed Ta'Unars.

I know this release is as usual going to shake things up and a lot of people will vent frustration and rage, but I'm a painter first and been hobbying for 20 years but I've only played about 7 games in that entire time, I found the learning curve and over complicated rules were just too much for me to take in in any reasonable sense. I'm not a stupid man but even now it is just so confusing!

So, 8th i'm hoping will allow me to find further purchase in the 40k hobby and be able to feel more comfortable and competent with the rule set, so I may be able to actually play against my friends who are fully versed in the rules and throw dice like they're feeding chickens.

As a player of the current Eldar 'dex, I have to vehemently... agree. Eldar should be good - by which I mean "about as good as everyone else, give or take".

A little better is tolerable for fluff reasons. Not "ZOMG wtf does that unit cost?" good.

Exactly what I mean.

And from my perspective, I'm looking forward to, hopefully, Dark Eldar not being turbo-turd anymore.

The fact they they HAVE TO 100 percent MUST rewrite SoB rules. They can't ignore them on release. We may never get a Codex in all of 8th but gosh darn it we get a few months of somewhat relevance!

They did say they weren't doing that, so I'll be very annoyed if they disappear any factions.

Honestly, if its just like AoS with a bit more crunch to the points and wargear options then I'm good. 14 detachments? Sign me the hell up.

7th ed is a hot mess. I remember playing a game recently at a store, and my friend and I constantly having to check the book for rules clarifications, and some regulars stopped by and asked us if this was our first time playing 40k >_>

There's this weird stigma that less rules means less strategy. I've seen so much complaining that AoS is a baby game and 40k players are just far superior and so much smarter in every way. Like, you do realize you're playing tabletop starcraft right? If you truly were a distinguished man of intellect you'd be playing like, a convoluted Napoleonic war game, not space orks vs blue robots.

Starcraft is a much better game than 40k, i think.

And yes, most historical games have shorter but tighter rules than 40k.

I built my Lion's Blade mostly with Rhino chassis' I already had, plus a smattering of drop pods I built myself. A couple of my Rhinos may go back to being the Predators they were before they got pressed into being transports in the Lion's Blade.

The new Celestine kit is so new the paint has barely dried on the studio model. I seriously doubt they'd squat the Sisters when they just made a Sisters character central to the plot evolution.

People who play Chess or Go would probably laugh at the idea that a game with less rules than 40K can't be more strategic.

In some ways, though, 40K is more strategic than chess. Computers can brute force their way to victory in chess, but in military simulators, they are still getting crushed without cheating advantages.

So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

I've heard that zoats will be returning to tyranid armies. One of their wargear options will be zoatibix, which gives them a nutritious meal before combat.

As with many others, balance. I have 3 armies armies chosen for fluffy / I-like-the-models reasons, none of which which last past turn 2 against anything vaguely competitive in 7th, hopefully (for instance) my Trygon and Raveners are going to become a big scary threat rather than just some easy target practice.

I'm also looking forward to designing vast, unbuyable armies for fun - I used to love doing that (for instance an IG 2.5M point full army group) but since Apocalypse it has got to the stage where you need to do £300 on rules just to get everything, hopefully the new all-in books will make that possible again.

I am looking forward to the flood of transports and cheap models that are no longer seen as competitive/ overpowered. That said I am also NOT looking forward to having to strip "pro painted" horrible paint jobs from said models.
