Don't feel bad. For the Kentucky Derby tonight we had take out pizza, but I did make Mint Juleps for daughter and myself (hers were alcohol free, mine not so much...)

Salad with wasabi peas, peanuts, almonds, jalapeno chips, flax seed, and raspberry vinaigrette. Washed down with half a pot of coffee.

Ew. Mint julips are horrid. If you like bourbon, there is too much other stuff in there, and if you don’t, there is too much booze. I used to force myself to drink one every year on Derby day. Now I just drink straight bourbon. Well, with a single ice cube, but no mixers.

One of two days I year I make sure I drink bourbon. The other is the watching the UofL/UofK basketball game. I might have spent over a decade living in Louisville...

I’m drinking more then two bourbons a year these days. But at least twice so I don’t loose my connection with my southern time. Can’t say heritage, as we moved there when I was 10.

On topic, dinner tonight was a simple chicken teriyaki stir fry.

Today I cooked a salmon gratin thingy with cream, mushrooms, basil, olives and spinach, as well as couscous by the side.

I still live with my parents while I study in order to avoid having to take loans that will take decades to pay off, so in return I do various things like cooking twice a week, mowing the lawn, cleaning...
