Yeah, dude. Call us and we can get a time to show you how to play, probably on the weekend. You in San Diego? We should probably just schedule a learning day, period.

@CthululsSpy

Good question! So, damage is different now than it used to be. You roll to hit, then to wound, defender chooses who takes the wound then takes armor/inv saves. Failed saves generate damage. You then roll for damage per model, then take any FnP style saves if you have them.

Does that make sense?

Reece: Watching your Ork/CSM game and you charged your Gorkanaught into the Daemonettes and then you let them go first due to Quicksilver Swiftness. My reading of the rule seems to indicate you get to pick the first charging unit to fight, then you trade activations as long as there are more units with Quicksilver. Am I reading it wrong or were you just being nice?

Quicksilver Swiftness really only seems to matter in the 2nd round of combat. In round 1, you either charged (and thus go first anyway) or got charged, in which case you get to trade off, which only really changes things if there are multiple melees going on. It's nice, but not as cool as it sounds initially (to me), especially with Fall Back.

Edit: Someone just called you out on it and you read the rule on the stream but didn't really *read* the rule.

"If the enemy has units that have charged, or [irrelevant], then alternate choosing [...] starting with the player whose turn is taking place."

Yeah, fair play. I see the confusion. I will check on that one.

We've been playing it as units with a rule like that always swing first, regardless of anything other than another unit with a similar rule.

I will get us some clarification, though.

I'm having trouble seeing where the confusion is on that one; it's written fairly clearly to me. Guess official answers are good though. I'd be happy to be wrong though as it makes me much less excited about Slaanesh Daemons.

Here's the rule as written:

Units with this ability always fight first in the Fight phase, even if they didn't charge. If the enemy has units that have charged, or that have a similar ability, then alternate choosing units to fight with, starting with the player whose turn is taking place.

So if the Daemonettes get charged by 2 units, player who charged picks 1 unit and attacks. Then the Daemonettes go. Then the last unit that charged goes. Seems pretty clear.

Reece have you posted any videos with other Ork lists? I think I could run that Kan wall but I really like battlewagons, trukks, bikes, Manz, mobs of boyz.. I mean.. something with some serious meat to it. Those really are stunning though. Would've like to have seen the Chaos models in better detail. I can't actually remember where I saw your kan army in full detail but they're pretty sweet.
EDIT: Also.. man, I don't know that I could play Frankie.. it drives me nuts when people keep moving their stuff after they put up the tape..

You are free to disagree of course, friend. For me, in 6th and 7th we used them almost never. In 8th, I find myself using them all the time, they are great. Yes, Wraithlords of degrading profiles but in the context of 8th ed, they are a great choice for Eldar. If you compare them to 7th it is not a contextual comparison and won't really give you a good picture. I suggest trying them out in a few games and then deciding for yourself. For me, I love using them and find them to be an excellent unit. YMMV

Hey Reece, thnx for taking the time to answer! I will be using my Wraithlords in a few days and I really hope you are right, because I really love that model!

I am not quite sure I read the point costs correctly. The way I see it is that when building an army, you add the cost of every model and the cost of ALL wargear (nothing is free). But this way many things dont really make sense. Two easy examples are angelus boltguns costing more than plasma pistols and power fists costing the same as t.hammers. Things get even more whacky comparing models and wargear from different armies or comparing power levels and point costs. I must be doing something wrong!

Here is a few examples...

Named characters. You never pay points for any of their items. Kharne is 173 points, that's all you pay. You don't pay for his axe or plasma pistol. Same with Lysander for Imp fists, you don't pay for his stormshield etc.

wile a chaos Marine Daemon Prince is 146 Base. He comes with Talons and the Sword. One set of talons is free. The sword is 42. So really the DP cost is 188 "base". You can upgrade his weapons though for different points. If you upgrade or change, you only pay his model cost of 146+ the cost of the new item.

CthuluIsSpy wrote:What is the process for determining random damage? Do I roll for every unsaved wound, or do I roll before firing, and apply the result to the weapon? In the case of the latter, do I roll for each firing weapon?

You roll to hit, then roll to damage. Opponent rolls to save. Then you roll for how many wounds done.

So lets say you had 12 shots and hit with 6. Then you roll your 6 dice to wound. You get 4 wounds. Each shot is d3 damage. So the opponent makes the saves vs the 4 wounds you did. Every one he fails, a single model takes d3 damage. Key point is SINGLE model. Even if he rolled 0 saves and you rolled 4d3 and got 12 wounds, you are only killing a max of 4 guys (if they are all marines or such)

Wow, Reecius, thanks for all the work you guys have put in!
And thanks MORE for giving us your two cents on how you think all the factions will be faring.

I noted for the Necrons one that you guys thought Heavy Destroyers and Warrior blocks were the way to go for anti-vehicle.
Heavy D's I can understand, but Warriors? Gauss as a rule is gone now, so just wondering what the reasoning behind that one might be?

And I want to like Illuminor Szeras and Anrakyr the Traveler, but their lack of a Dynasty keyword means they have zero transport options (not allowed to use Monoliths, Night Scythes, or Ghost Arks unless you've got the <Dynasty> keyword). Vargard Obyron can't take them with his Ghostwalk Mantle, and the Veil of Darkness has been removed, so they can't use that either... all they can do is footslog. Not looking so great.

(also, did you guys notice Imotekh the Stormlord's profile lists him as Leadership 9? Lowly Warriors and Scarabs have a higher leadership value than the (currently available) highest ranking Necron in the galaxy?? That's gotta be a typo, right?)

@MLaw

No other videos, yet, sorry. We just now can start posting stuff =) But, lots more on the way.

And Frankie is an awesome opponent, very fun to play. He and I let each other to take bakes in practice a lot, in tournament play neither of us do it.

@Rippy

Yeah, sorry =/

@Skotts

You are very welcome!

Yeah, Warriors when buffed up will hit on 2's, and are Rend -1. Against most vehicles they will wound on a 5, so the damage really piles up in rapid fire range. You may find other tactics come to the forefront for anti-vehicle tactics but that worked for us in our test games.

I think you aren't understanding how the Keyword system works, which is totally understandable. Say you take a detachment of Necrons, you can give them all the same Dyansty keyword unless they already have one. Does that make sense?

Yes, the Stormlord LD thing I think is a typo, lol, we were laughing about that one, too.

@Thread

So, after doing some poking around I believe the reading you fellas have of Quicksilver Swiftness is RAI. Good catch, guys!

Ha, we've got spreadsheets upon spreadsheets over in the Necron thread. Buffed warriors turned out to be worse at shooting at T8 vehicles point-for-point than unbuffed conscripts, and worse than buffed conscripts against T7. It feels pretty dumb.

I think skoffs point is that Anrakyr and Szeras don't have the <Dynasty> faction keyword, so can't pick a dynasty. Because all the necron transports say something like "set up <Dynasty> infantry", RAW means they can't use any of the transports. At a guess it's an oversight, but it's hard to know for sure.

@Eylio

Haha, yes, conscripts can be quite good but I think if you apply the reality of model positioning to the equation you can't get enough in position, LoS and range to actually leverage their numbers at maximum efficiency.

In our games, we found that Warriors often go in to position to kill things with weight of fire due to a number of things such as resilience, etc. It's not just pure offensive output in a vacuum (but I am sure you know this).

If you want to take on the world with your Conscripts, I wish you well =)

I will look into the lack of a Dynasty keyword topic. I believe they can still ride in a transport due to being Necrons as they share that Keyword but we will see.

@Davou

I will look into that one, too. RAW to me is pretty clear but I think the RAI was meant to say that sometimes you reroll some of the dice, sometimes you reroll all of them based on the rule letting you reroll dice. But, I will find out for sure.

Will you be uploading the reports on youtube?
Also, do you accept player feedback for play testing? I'm noticing necrons missing their more iconic methods for getting around the table, such as monolith summoning (you used to be able to bring models to its gate) and the veil of darkness. In addition, I noticed that the hyperphase sword and the voidblade have the same profiles yet different points costs. Is that an oversight?

@CthululsSpy

I am not like, in charge of play testing or anything like that. I can do my best to try and bridge the gap but I do not write the rules or anything.

As for points costs on weapons, when compared to one another, or between books, they won't make sense as that is not how their price was determined. I can't go beyond that with explaining things but I can say that they methodology to determine their cost was done an an individual basis on a number of factors, not necessarily based on a comparison to a like item. Try to assess it based on the context of the units that can take them.

on the forum. Obviously

Its actually a little more complicated than that. Overlords can take either hyperphase swords or voidblades, but they both have the same profile, and voidblades are more expensive. There's no reason to take the voidblade over the sword with the current stats. It's rather curious.

I wasn't trying to bash Frankie, he does seem like a cool guy.. I just have known people who do that as a habit. I actually thought you guys weren't aware of it as the people I'm referring to usually weren't and I would feel like a dick for pointing it out..

Have you played the other Ork variant lists like a Speed Freak type of thing or some kind of Deathskull gunline in 8th? Those were some of my favorite lists back in 4th.

I'm excited about the IG vs Necron match especially the AM list. That's similar to what I was running for them when I stopped playing.

In regards to transports, what happens to passengers when a transport is locked in combat? Can they disembark and then the trasport can fall back? And if so, can they act normally or they count as having fall back to?
