All this is about the elephant in the room. Intellectual property.. the tomb Kings and bretonians went away because knights and skeletons are not defensible as intellectual property. The same goes for the Dwarfs. If you notice they stop using the term Space Marine and are using other terms. The chapterhouse lawsuit hit them hard. It's why I have a tyrannocyte and not a spore pod.

The Warhammer 40K intellectual property is much more sound then Warhammer fantasy battles. It's much less of a generic setting. Still I would be surprised if they don't make big changes to the naming and look of the models. It's part of why they have flying blimp dwarvesin AOS now.

Too bad this all won't stop others producing alt-numarines or bits for them

Having both old and new marines clogging up the schedule would be horrific. Its bad enough as it is.

They have increasingly been having to resort ot more and more outlandish and IMO downright stupid models for existing Chapters - see Wolfy wolf wolves riding Wolves, flyers and Centurions.

This way they can sell to all the various marine players and slowly phase out the older marines.

Continuing to update both would mean even less time to actually do anything else that actually NEEDS doing - Sisters, plastic aspect warriors, new ranges etc.

After all if you don't make it, it wont sell.

It is even more sad for the poor Chaos Marines.
They are already totally outdated and ugly compared to the current Space Marines range, now they are outdated, ugly and dwarfed

Or they will be so busy replacing old marines with numarines(nutacticals, nuassault, nudevastator, nuscout, nuterminators, nublack knights, nudeath guard) they are too busy to release much of anything else for years

I would be very surprised if they didn't get new models before the end of the year.

What is a 'vastator' and why would it be 'nude'?

Just in terms of the visual look, there's been a slow size creep for some time. I still have sime 2nd ed. monopose marines. I can technically still use them as far as fluff and crunch go but they look awful next the current range. I have old terminators which look like stiff limbed robots compared to modern termies with dynamic poses. When a model range gets updated with a shiny new look, eventually you have to make a decision to either stick to the old range, put up with a mixed force showing up your old models, or start again with the new model range.

Why in particular do you think that the CSM range is ugly?

I think they look cool.

Their sculpts are four-three editions old now and they're a bunch of janky squatting marines with barely anything "chaos" about them besides some horns. Compared to the Raptor/Warp Talon dual kit, DV Chosen, and the upcoming Death Guard release they look like gak.

I own some of these models. I think that the "standard marine" + horns looks cool.

I mean, you're entitled to your opinion, but personally, I have no complaints with the status quo.

truthfully I'd rather standard chaos marines look like marines with some spikes and horns and leave the greater embellishment for a chosen kit, and cult troops.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

AoS is a brand new setting that for real world reasons re uses a lot of the old WHF range. The 8th edition 40k background post gathering storm is a direct continuation of the same setting.

Indeed, if SM are getting a revamp, I would expect CSM to be next on the list.

To be entirely honest, I like the idea of numarines. Now I do already have abit under a battle company of SM. So I will hold off new purchases of SM until I see how this numarine thing pans out.

I have been playing 40k semi-regularly for about 10 years now. I welcome 8E with open arms. God this game has needed a revamp, so damn bad. I played in 5-6th edition and took a break, but 7E made it WAAAAAAAY to hard to jump back in, disgustingly bloated. Not to mention the main story hadn't been advanced in any meaningful way for how many years?

Yes, GW probably could've gone about it abit softer, it does feel a little rushed. BUT, overall I have seen worse. I think a fresh slate on a now nearly 35+ year old game is very good. It makes it fresher and more interesting to bring new players in, for us who have been around for abit, me at least, I feel GW has really listed to the community, it seems they are making a serious, honest effort to bring the game WE wanted, to the table.

I dont know what you're on with the whole they killed pld fantasy armies. My dispossesed dwarfs wreck face. The Tomb kings are arguably stronger than a lot of the new vampire and undead stuff, There is a way to get empire muskets hitting and wounding on 2+ zombies are busted right now, and in my time of playing i have yet to see that the new armies are vastly stronger than anything else. The beauty of sigmar is everything is viable. Very little sucks right now. there isnt a lot of the excess cool stuff they had like magic items and the vows from bretonia. but also the bull gak of angling a unit right next to a table edge so if someone charges and has to close the door one model is off the edge and the whole unit vanishes.

Hoo rant over. The new marines will do as much to negate normal marines as blood angels space wolves and beath watch did by not really doing it. they will be big they will be cool but everything will have a purpose. and these guys will probably be pricy like death watch. Big fethers with all the best gear? they're basically non force wielding grey knights. Your imperial fists will be just as dope as every. may even be stronger. I wouldnt worry.

Everyone getting upset about the change.
Come on guys, give it a chance. We can't complain, it's a company and companies need to make profit. Yeah some armies are left in the dust but that's why new rule sets are coming. New models are cool, but new rules are cooler

I do hope however nids get an update with them becoming more story relevant and chaos do too.

Primaris Marines are an abortion of an idea, but because we need more marines we will have marines who marine marineishly with bolter that bolt boltishly because according to GW this is what fans want, and not an update to the other 15+ year old model lines.

Free from GW's tyranny and the hobby is looking better for it
