Diplomatic immunity does not mean you have a getaway from anything card. Infact this only works on ambassadors and is only for minor crimes can be waved.... Assualt or murder are not covered. Infact you can get expeled rather easily or imprisoned. And most countries will forget about these people and waive their dipolmatic immunity for example :

"A diplomat’s home country can waive his diplomatic immunity in particularly egregious cases. In 1997, Gueorgui Makharadze, formerly the second-highest-ranking diplomat at the Georgian Embassy in Washington, had his diplomatic immunity waived after he killed a Maryland teenager in a drunk driving accident. Makharadze had gotten out of a drunk-driving charge the previous year by claiming diplomatic immunity. He was sentenced to 21 years in prison and was later transferred to Georgia to finish his sentence."

Exactly, only a home country can do it, so its basically a get out of jail free card for kleptocracies and dictatorships with thugs like Erdogan's. His entourage is sadly protected too. Only thing they have to avoid is going back to the US alone, not a lot of risk for them.
Although prosecutors in Washington can’t arrest members of Erdogan’s security detail if they have certain types of immunity, those individuals can be charged with any crimes they have committed — meaning that if those people come back to the United States in any nonprotected capacity, they can be arrested at that point. We can also expel those guards from the country, something that President Barack Obama did in December to punish Russian agents involved in hacking. We can also prevent them from coming back in.

The type of immunity that the guards might hold isn’t clear. The ambassador has full immunity. If the guards involved in Tuesday’s fracas are attached to the embassy, they may have similarly robust immunity, including “personal inviolability” — meaning they cannot be arrested or otherwise detained. If they were traveling to the United States as part of the president’s entourage — and if our government recognized those guards as being here in that context — they are covered under a similar principle of immunity. (The terms of immunity are spelled out in the Vienna Convention of 1961.)

Turkey summoned our ambassador for a formal meeting the other day.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/22/politics/turkey-us-ambassador-brawl/

n a statement, the ministry said Turkey was protesting against the "aggressive and unprofessional actions taken" by US security personnel.

Turkey said that the "lapses of security" during Erdogan's stay were "caused by the inability of US authorities to take sufficient precautions at every stage of the official program."

There you go.

So Turkish security had to beat up people because US security couldn't get them to shut up?

Pretty much.

At this point, I'd move every single military / government assets out of Turkey and move it to Jordan (or somewhere else).

Then tell Turkey to suck it.

What's Triple H doing these days? Isn't telling people to 'suck it' kind of his wheelhouse? That would be grand.

So Erdogan doesn't understand that in not-Turkey countries people are still free to protest, well, pretty much anything.

And is complaining about people doing that outside a building he wasn't even in?

What else you expect his body guard to be to be entirely honest.
He not always thr most popular man, and hid security will be fairly rough n ready.

'Respectful enough of another country's laws to not beat the hell out of protestors' seems like a bare minimum of expectation.

I won't hold my breath waiting for anything signficant to happen, though. Trying to steer clear of US Politics (tad difficult, given the subject), but anyone else remember certain campaign rhetoric directed against protestors?

If ther eis a change in the Turkish government (Ha!) then their stance on things may change. They maybe open to extradite some of the Felony charged folks.

Does someone know a bit more about how that type of stuff works?

Well, while waiting on that regime change, the US could go through Interpol and issue a Red Notice to have any member county arrest those guys if they leave Turkey and travel anywhere else.

I don't expect the current administration to do that, not with their friendly stance and admiration of Erdogan.
