In a van down by the river

Nearly every miniature I purchase. For example, I presently have at least 2000 points of 16 40k armies, I have field-able forces painted for 3 (Necrons, Space Marines, Grey Knights for the idly curious).

I have a bizarre combination of perfectionism and laziness that makes most painting projects insanely tiresome as my vision for a project far outstrips my ability and frustrations mount at not being able to execute things. Things will be acquired to complete the entire project, with a seeming mental blindspot for the "none of the previous efforts have ever been finished" aspect.

I am making mild headway on FoW though. I have (almost!) completed two full armies (1 US, 1 German) there; just need to weather a bunch of vehicles and they'll be done. Pay no attention to the fact that I have another 4-5 US armies, 8 or so German armies (in my defense; a bit of overlap with support units) and 6-ish Soviet armies...

At some point it does become a sickness I suppose. Pretty sure that point was long ago at this stage.

I started converting DE models for 9th Age's version of the "Cult of Slaanesh". Then the T9A rule writers gutted the game. I'm still going to do the conversions because they look neat (especially the Altar of Pain)... but I'm not sure when or if I'm ever going to get to use them in a game.

My 7th Edition Raven Guard (1000pts) army I bought in December .... 2016, along with rulebook, C:SM and C:AoD.

And then found out they we're changing editions in 2017...

Le Sigh.

Flames of war American mid-late army. Intended as an opponent army for my italian and german armies. Finished some M8`s, M10´s and a few M5 half-tracks to a good standard like 5 years ago, and that is still where the army is at. I am really not hyped at all for V4, so I think they and the rest of my unpainted FoW will stay like that for many more years.

Spartan space marines - bought lots of sanguinary guards, greek helmets and shields and bits to make power-spears. Made a squad, painted one guy and didn´t like the scheme. Played other armies in 6th, was totally burned out by the terrible 7th ed. Maaaaybe I can get back to this army with 8th, 8th seems more suited to small skirmishes, so I don´t have to take it all out anymore, and I have started exploring NMM, so I think the scheme can become really good with those techniques.

Lots of ideas, just waiting to find time and co-workers. My day job has been bumped to 50+ hours a week so nothing new has progressed for a long while.

But yeah, some Amazons in a Conan style, along with some civilian sci fi people, a couple of odds and ends.

I really want to get these bad boys done: An entire army of Space Wolf 13th Company from the days of the Eye of Terror campaign, given to me for free by a guy who was getting out of the game. Originally put together by him somewhat badly and then primed, I spent a few weekends sorting them out and correcting odd wargear mixes or missing arms.

The only models in the below picture that I actually bought are the Runepriest(actually a normal Librarian model) and the Wolf Lord (originally a metal Wolf Guard model), bought about 1997. There are also about a dozen metal Wulfen not in the picture, and soon I will be replacing the Wolf Lord with Geigor Fell-Hand from the Horus Heresy, as it's a great model that actually looks like my metal Wolf Lord.

Also, the Lord in Terminator armor and the Cataphractii squad from Calth, so they can have canon Terminator armor for what the 13th company would still have for their Wolf Guard pack leaders.

Here's what they will look like when done, the first squad I have painted:

I liked that 13th Company aesthetic - the mis-matched, scavenged armour. Far better than whatever the hell this is meant to be.

I also liked how they were actually real Heresy-era marines, even though that broke some canon at the time with the modern armor mk of the models, and the capability of Long Fangs to take Plasma Cannons. But the above army of models to be painted....with two kids now? Yeah, I'm probably just going to cherry-pick the models I like most for skirmish-level games. Especially as I like to go through and black line all the crevasses and armor joints lightly with black wash, because I'm OCD like that, lol.

My dream would be to use a mix of Calth and Prospero marines to have actual Heresy armor patterns instead of the MK7 on the models I have.

I have two 1/72 scale U-Boats that have been sitting in their boxes for years. I have built and converted two 1/72 Corvettes and one is fully painted, but I have decided I have to finish all my 40K stuff before I go back to historical, especially models that large.

The long painting war continues...

For Warhamer Fantasy, I haven't done much for my Lizardmen in ages, and I don't have enough interest to finish them, but I just can't bring myself to part with them. There is still a decent sized Fantasy crowd in my area, but that's not enough motivation to put my Lizardmen above my other projects.

For 40K, I have a list of armies I would like to do:

- finish my Necron army. Not as hard as my other projects, since it is mostly purchased, just gotta assemble and paint them. Figured out a quick scheme to paint them so that helps.
- finish my Space Marines/Wolves. I just have so many heroes and characters that I know I should paint more line infantry, but I just get all excited about the characters.
- finish my Guard army. I have about 50 infantry and 4 tanks left to do, but I got burnt out on them after the first 80 infantry and dozen tanks.
- new Adeptus Mechanicus army. I always told myself that I would play one if they ever got their own army, but I have yet to get into them fully.
- new Primaris Marines as a successor to my current Space Marines. New edition, new army, right?
- new Death Guard army. I have always liked Plague Marines, and the new Starter Set is as good a time as any to start them up, right?
- dream Tau army. I have tried and failed 3 times over the past 7 years to start a proper Tau army, but every time I get overwhelmed with the available options and never complete anything aside from a squad or two of infantry. Now that they are not OP, maybe I can figure something out?
- custom Imperium Crusade. A mix of Knights, Guard, Tempestus, Astartes, and other Imperium units that are part of a large "crusade" with a unifying color scheme. My Primaris will be the start to this, so we shall see how it goes....

For Age of Sigmar:

- finish my Ironjawz army, and expand into Greenskins. I just gotta work on this. I don't have much left in the way of purchasing the Ironjawyz, but I am starting from nothing with Greenskins.
- build an alliance of legacy Order models, consisting of humans, dwarves, and elves. Just for fun.
- build a Minotaur army. If the Beastmen had Minotaur as a Core choice back in Warhammer Fantasy, I would already have this. However, I can do this now with AoS. Starting from scratch though...
- TF2 Heavy Weapons Guy Sandvich themed Ogre army. I mean, seriously, how has no one else thought of this one yet? I call dibs! Of all of these, this is my most likely next army (aside from the new 40K stuff).

For other wargames, I am cutting my losses. I plan on selling off a large chunk of my models, since I was either not able to get into the game (30K) or I can't stand the system or local players (Warmahordes).

And not counting all my unfinished terrain projects, one-off models, my wife's and kid's army that I help with, or my massive Reaper Bones 3 Kickstarter that is coming in the mail this week. I figure that I may have everything painted once I have been dead for about 30 years...

At a Place, Making Dolls Great Again

I have several armies on the go that get tossed into rotation, right now is the Vampire Counts for 9th age since there's a tournament for it soonish and most of them are already painted (weirdly having got them in a trade, this is the second time I have owned them).
Dark Eldar (all OOP)
Necrons (tedious as all hell but I don't think they need anything new, maybe a few Destroyers since I like the models)
Beastclaw Raiders
My Skirmish Elf Warband (mostly done).
Nurgle Marines
Harlequins (mostly done)
Snotlings (a few touch ups and I believe a pump wagon?)

Those will all get done one day, I can't see myself parting with most any of those, and the only armies I want to do now are weird and insanely stupid (bat army, OOP Wood Elves, Halfings -as goblins- army)

Too much to list for me, but here are the big ones:

1. Finish my Imperator Titan. Less of an issue not that it doesn't have rules anymore.

2. Assemble and paint all my terrain. I have enough to play with currently, but some of that unfinished stuff would be sweet.

3.START painting my Tyranids. I have primed nids from late 3rd I've never touched again.

4. Finish my StormRaven for my Grey knights. The rest of the force has been done for ages. This one just keeps glaring at me.

I literally have to run my local meta of a few friends. I moved to a new city and they have a handful of local players. I had the same issue with Battletech, Firestorm Armada, DnD that wasn't 3.5, and NetEpic. You just need that one charismatic guy and the one FLGS to stock stuff.

Most of the Antimatter Games catalog. I've backed just about every single Kickstarter they've done, and picked up a lot of extra figures and starters over the years at retail as well.

I could field respectable sized warbands for almost every faction in both ShadowSea and DeepWars.

Shame most of them aren't painted, especially as I really like the sculpts, the fluff, the rules.. just about everything about it.

I have the same problem with other game systems like Wild West Exodus as well. Own starters and blisters from tons of factions (just about all of them at this point) but have very little painted to show for it.

Or my all in on Kingdom Death, both times. Still have yet to play it since I haven't finished painting everything. SAD.

At least KD will get played once I have the enemies finished. I have the Butcher almost done, the Hand started and a general idea of what I want to do, and then it's just the Watcher and Phoenix.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

While not a modeling issue...I've been working on a dungeon crawl game (in about fifteen iterations) since 2000. So, after 17 years I've essentially got nothing, as I've scrapped every version.

Maybe one day. In the time since I've designed a bunch of other worthwhile games (heck I even sell some).

I don't think I'll ever finish my Empire of the Blazing Sun fleet for Dystopian Wars. I love the models and have lots of painted minis but nobody stocks or plays it around here. The Spartan shoebox of shame holds a dozen or so unopened blisters of more models that will almost certainly never see the light of day, let alone a brush.

Pigasuspig - KoW in cm instead of inches is genius! I just got some lizardmen from Eureka a few weeks ago and I love them. I'm planning on using them for monsters in DzC, but you've given me a reason to turn them into a proper army. Thanks!

Devil's Run: Route 666. Every time I see the stuff I already painted I keep thinking 'those are really lovely minis - I should paint the rest of them and get some games in'. And then I never, ever do.

Also, I may never even start on the crate of Warpath stuff I shouldn't have bought.

My Epic Army of the Imperium I've got a lot of it painted but the idea is to have a full multiple regiment crusade with a chapter of Astartes and an order of sisters backed up by titans and Adeptus Mechanicus

Mad Max human orks army for 40k. Built up a "nob" bikesquad, bought several "buggies" and a "battlewagon", but lost interest in 40k as 7th edition hit. Also didn´t actually want to make large groups of "boyz".

Some of the army might be salvaged for This is not a test and fallout gaming though.

Ch'in Chinese army, painted to look like terracotta statues (15mm).
I got Chaos Warriors instead, finally starting Warhammer (and 28mm non-histrical in general) after over a decade of playing only 15mm ancients.

I've always wanted a nature army made of nature. Treemen, stone golems, dryads etc. Don't think I'll have the time or money for some time, if I ever get round to it.

I've got quite a lot of unfinished projects, but my favorites that I know I'll never get done are;

- 28mm Carthaginian army based on Hannibal's force for the Battle of Zama (I did paint a war elephant for that though!).
- A FoW Early War Polish cavalry force, and the Soviet armored battalion to face them.
- 40K Imperial Guard armored force; can't settle on a paint scheme or a theme!
- WHFB Skaven. I've painted some characters, a few rank and file and war machines (And doomwheel!). This is the one I most want to finish, but the thought of painting 120 clanrats... Not to mention where to put them all!

To limit it to things I can see myself actually wanting to play in the future (which rules out finishing the Vor, Void and Relic Knights collections), I'd say it's my Epic armies. 4th ed Marfines and 1st ed Imperial Guard are done to 3,000 points (using Epic Armageddon rules) and the 2nd ed Tyranids are mostly basecoated, but they've been in that state for ... at least three years now, could be up to eight. The Eldar, Orks, Chaos and Titans are even less likely to be done. Then there's the Crimson Fists army made up of 1st edition 40K miniatures.

The three big ones off the top of my head:

1st. . . I'm totally gonna get on building up and "finishing" my Vostroyans. I've got a few squads bought, but other projects keep coming up that take precedence. Plus, I'm always hopeful that one day, we'll have plastic greatcoat GW guard infantry. Honestly, this project came about largely because I started gaming at a local GW. When I started out my guard army, I didn't have a GW, and so was using WGF troopers as a "poor-man's Krieg" army.

2nd. . . . I've long wanted to do a pure Noise army. In my head, this idea is cool because as it keeps expanding/new ideas come up, there's more I could do with the army. Firstly, every squad of noise marines would be in a rhino that was painted up in some heavy metal album artwork. Secondly, and much more recent, I'd be doing the ultimate heresy, and converting Magnus to be a Daemon prince of Slannesh. . . lookin like someone from Poison or Steel Panther

3rd. This last idea is less an "army" project and more an armies on parade type deal. . . Basically, I want to make a WHFB Imperial display piece, BUT I wanted to have everyone in literal pike blocks. However, looking around, it appeared that the best option to really make this work was another 3rd party miniatures manufacturer (for the pikes), and after doing 40 greatswords in literally random color schemes (I am basing my entire freeguild/free peoples army off of the Landsknechte, they weren't good at uniformity) I just don't think I could muster up the willpower to paint one 500 man blocks, much less the 2 I had in mind.
