I think the Imperial Knight is up there and Cypher is probably my favourite.

Not sure how old the Mutalith kit is, but it's great.
Fun to build, great to paint. Proportions are good for colour schemes.

The Garuda tacbot from Corvus Belli is the nicest metal models I've built, From the way the joints are keyed to the look of the model.

You appear to have misspelt metal, finecast was a sure fire way to ruin those great sculpts. The only less than stellar one was the bareheaded guy. The current plastic GW Chaplains don't even come close.

There have been so many, hard to pick one. But i'd say the following are strong contenders for me:

imperial knight
plastic nurgle lord on foot with axe (I think he came out within the past 5 years?? I can't quite remember..)
maggoths
anything in dark imperium

anything nurgle related in plastic has been pure gold for me.

The Dreamforge Leviathan is the best kit I have seen in the last 5 years (maybe ever). I really need to finish it.

For like single 28mm mini, Cypher and 30k Ahriman are at the top.

I know it is a very recent kit but it blew my mind when I first saw it and now that I finally have my hands on the kit (Took 6 Weeks to ship from GW) all the little details just make it better.

Although this is a recent release it was a love at first sight. The design and the menacing pose is pure genius. The details are prolly the sharpest I've seen.

5 years is one heck of a long period, but I'll go with the one that has given me, without a doubt, the most motivation

I made myself a promise I would only buy it after I have painted my entire current Ironjawz army as a reward for my efforts. I have never, ever painted an army before, but with this guy in mind? I'm missing a gore-grunta and a mega boss, everything else has been slowly but steadily painted. Never before I felt such a painting commitment .

Sort of an odd one, and I think it just skims in (pun intended) the 5 year cut off point, but the Dark Eldar Raider still embodies everything I love about the DE and that whole model revamp in general.

That model alone changed my opinion of the DE from "S&M Edgelords" to "Pirates that hit hard and don't leave a trace". Its beautiful.

Hard to pick just one favorite. Here are my top 5, in no particular order:
-Plastic Khorne Bloodthirster: the release of this model is what caused me to play Khorne Daemonkin in 7th; it's a pity that Bloodthirsters are kind of meh in 8th because the model is kickass! I had loads of fun painting mine as well!
-Mortarion: Such an awesome sculpt; looks very Nurgle-y, and yet not over the top with all the exposed entrails commonly seen on Nurgle models.
-Plastic Cypher: A great update to a very cool character from the fluff.
-Tau Ghostkeel Battlesuit: An extremely cool model; shares some aesthetics with the Stealth Suits, but on a much larger scale. I need to paint mine!
-Plastic Lord of Change: Just like the Bloodthirster, GW really knocked it out of the park with their updated Greater Daemon of Tzeentch, and the ability to build it as Kairos Fateweaver is just icing on the cake. Unfortunately, just as with the 'thirster, the LoC and Fatey are trash in 8th competitively, but they are cool models nonetheless.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

This one stumped me for quite a while, there were 5 or 6 I couldn't pick between. Then I remembered one that, for me, beats the competition hands down and is one of the finest minis ever produced...

Forge World's Horus Lupercal:

This model just works on every level. From a technical PoV it's superb, the lines of motion and the detailing that's impressive without being overdone. The variety of textures and surfaces that must make it joy to paint (one day... one day.) and the pose and base are bang-on. More than that, it totally nails the character in a way few minis ever do; Horus is stoic yet imposing, inspiring but terrifying, brutal but elegant, and so is that sculpt. Simply perfect.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

This absolute beauty:

It's the only model that GW/FW have produced that I have just completely fallen in love with, of course it helps that the the paintjob they gave it is amazing too. (The sad thing is that I still haven't managed to save enough money to buy it and I've yet to find a scorpion that is being given away to a good home)

Another nomination from me....

Ork Flashgitz.

Don't care if they're much cop on the field, the kit is just great fun.

The snazzguns are ded modular, and come with more bits than you need. You can even choose the glyph plates!

Just s corking kit to put together in my opinion.

I couldn't pick just one if I tried - so I'll shortlist 5:

Character: FW Corvus Corax

Vehicle: FW Sicaran

Flyer: FW Fire Raptor

Walker: FW Leviathan

Other: Victrix Macedonian Hypaspists/ Greek Hoplites - These guys are the real winners. Tiny compared to my other suggestions, but the detail is crisp and authentic, the proportions are perfect and they are genuinely fun to paint, with so much scope for individualisation. The best thing is, they're merely the first in a line of truly excellent sculpts coming out of Victrix - easily equal to or better than any other historical miniatures on the market.

I'm going to have to come back on here after some sleep and link up my actual favourites (after I decide what they might be!) but I have to agree with the 30k mechanicum forces being pretty good, as are the AoS dwarf airships. Have been really tempted to get one of those, if I can figure a way to import it into my 40k army haha

Yeah, that needs special mention just from an engineering perspective. It's a testament to FW's skills to have brought that venerable beast of lore to the table.

It's not last 5 years but I have had my Ezekiel models since they came out and I still love them (they have been stripped and repainted like 4 times, I have actually 3 and one is for my DW).

Recent stuff...

I really liked the look of the Electro-priests (I don't even play Admech but I painted up 10 of each for fun). Though I play DW i think the Corvus looks like gak. last 5 years nothing really pops out that 'I must buy apart from priests' tbh.

Favorite model over 5 years for any game system? This is so far back we're almost talking pre-Colossals. I'm not even sure I could narrow it down to favorite per game in the last year alone.

The Trollblood Kings need to be up there for me. Overall the Mountain King is still probably the best with the whelps swinging around, but the Sea King has some stunning details on it too. The Glacier King does the least with the extra size, but has a fantastic pose.

Butcher3 might have the overall best combination of games, rules, and model.

Fillet is my favorite Guild Ball model. Just a fantastic sense of motion for a sports game.

Malifaux I'm going to go with the Death Marshal Recruiters. The "I want you" guy is fun, but the nod goes to the old man stomping a flaming skeleton into a casket while it grabs at his leg to pull him in.

For Infinity... how old is the Iguana? Probably the Iguana.

I'm sure there are others I can think of. The Deathwatch kits are excellent if only slightly more blinged out versions of things that have been around forever. Some of the large AOS stuff is incredible like the trees and whatnot. Celeste might take the GW crown for me simply because I'm a sucker for angel wings and she's overall better than the Prosecutors from AoS.
