Still Eldar to me.

Just as Ogres are Ogres, Orcses are Orcses, Gobbos are Gobbos and so on and so forth.

It's a word. That's all it is.

The fluff still refers to them as either name depending on the source. They are still the Eldar/Dark Eldar to the Imperium, but we now know how they refer to themselves.

P.S. They are still the Space Marines and Imperial Guard in Low Gothic. Adeptus Astartes and Astra Militarum are their High Gothic names. It's actually a really clever way to have a copyrightable name without completely removing an established name.

Aeldari I kind of get, because that does at least sound like Eldar with an I attached to it. Its not great, but I can see the connection at least.

Drukhari just sounds weird and doesn't fit at all, and for some reason I keep imagining a bunch of bespectacled fat guys in bondage gear. Which is not a fun thought to have.

It could be worse - Geesicus Dubsicus could have gone all roman legion on us and called them the Aeldarii. Where you pronounce both i's. And then an individual Eldar would have been an Aeldarius.

Drukharii... Drukharius...

So there's that I suppose.

Nope... it's part of the story finally moving forward after 30 years. I don't have any problem with that at all.

I want to hate you, but I'm too busy laughing and wondering why I didn't see it earlier.

Should invest in a t-shirt with his face on it when I get my Wych Cult done.

Otherwise, I'm mostly sligthly annoyed at the change. Aeldari is close enough I suppose, yet there was an alternative name already avaliable. Asuryani makes sense due to Asurmen's influence on the Craftworlds and I quite like it because of it. Do feel something like "Commorite" that's connected to the pre-existing lore for DE rather than something drawn from the hat or late night binge watching Drew Carey Show would've made a better official name.

In the end they're still the same: Space Elves, Clown Elves, R-18 Elves and Dino Riding Elves.

I cannot claim the credit, that goes to another brave and er...souless...soul...

I like the name change. Never liked the name Eldar, it is too much a direct ripoff from Tolkien. Aeldari still is, of course, but it is just slightly more subtle, which is good.
Not sure about Drukhari. Dark Eldar was just cringeworthy as a name (they are Eldar, only DARK!) and made it appear as if they were just some subfaction of Craftworld Eldar whom for some reason were named just Eldar rather than Craftworld Eldar. That has always annoyed me to no end. If anything, the Dark Eldar should have been called just 'Eldar', as they are the true Eldar and the Craftworlders are only a small, backwards offshoot of the Eldar Empire of old.
At least the Dark Eldar now finally have a proper name of their own.
However, I would have preferred if had been some version of 'Commorites' or something else that references Commorragh.

I would have preferred GW look back I to the Celtic naming roots of Eldar and worked in a term from there.

Quick Google: Sluagh - some form of restless dead from Irish folklore. May have been sinners and/or drained souls. Bonus points- sounds like 'Slough' which is an English city.

Dearg-Due - a sort of Irish vampire. Fits in with the DE theme of draining folks. Meets the GW criteria of being something you probably never heard of and perhaps copyright.

As an aside there was previous fluff that the Dark Eldar referred to themselves as the True Kin.

I think the Aeldar will end up being pronounced essentially the same that it's basically the same.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE NAME DREW CAREY!

I was more annoyed by people spelling "Elder" instead of "Eldar", so Aeldari are +- OK. Drukhari, on the other hand, is just nonsense.

Excellent idea Souleater, and much better than mine which was to go Greek (as the 'elder empire' to that of the Romans, given the Imperium's styling), though I'm not sure that Eldaroi or similar sounds sufficiently Hellenic, if you get me.

So John Betjeman was an undercover Ordo Xenos inquisitor? ("Come friendly bombs and fall on Slough, it isn't fit for humans now", for those who don't know).

If it was in isolation it wouldn't annoy me, but this thing where everything has to have either a pig latin or made up name as a whole is a little too much, so yes. It annoys me a bit.

While we're on the subject of names, should we talk about Ynnari? It sounds like the weird (but delicious!) tofu skin bag.

I think all the fluff being told strictly from a IOM perspective gets real old. The core rule book was supposed to update everyones fluff to 8th. So IOM got over 100 pages and everyone else got 2.

So they had the faction names be what the Eldar call themselves. Good. The less IOM dictate every single facet of the fluff the better.

I am still mildly puzzled that they swapped the unit names of Wracks and Grotesques.
