Playing our first game this weekend and we're going to going with rules very close to E. Seriously, the terrain rules in this edition are just silly. Of course, in a league, tourney, etc. you have to use A as that needs to be RAW

Option F:

Mostly option D but only ruins or forests give the 50% obscured benefit, but do so for any and all units. Hills and models do not.

We've been playing with option "A".

However we've discussed moving toward somewhere between "D&E" as this makes a lot more sense to most people.

What we're running into is, that as of right now, a tourney structure will most likely be based around "A", and no one wants to get used to playing one way and then have to try and remember that those rules no longer apply.

That's where we're at.

I had to read your question several times before I noticed what the 'problem' was here. I automatically played:

"OPTION E. I play that both infantry and non-infantry units can benefit from cover by being obscured at least 50% by absolutely anything (including other random intervening units). So for all the examples (#1-4), I'd say yes, they get the benefit of cover in all those cases."

but with adding the "infantry in woods/ruins" gain cover, even if 100% visible, because that's simply in the rules.

After reading this thread I will be moving to A., but I wonder if my playing group will move with me on this subject .

I think that both infantry and larger models should get cover from cover-granting terrain that obscures them even when they aren't actually in said terrain. To use the examples, I would say that cover bonuses would apply in #1 and #4.

Just to note the new FAQ; Option A is correct. I am saddened by this, but hey, thems the breaks!

As this was pretty definitively answered by GW in the FAQ, I think we can lock this thread.
