so I'm pretty interested in this but i was wondering something. Do you have to group up online or can the game be played solo?

Sort of? Its a solo game of beating on boss monsters for 20-30 minutes at a stretch (to progress by making weapons out of that monster for the next monster) but you are in a multiplayer lobby (town hub) so can group up, or go it alone but have an option to put out (or answer) S.O.S. calls that allow temporary grouping with strangers. When they work. Stable net code is still a challenge, apparently.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

In case it hasn't been answered, yes you just set the lobby to private or just disconnect the internet. That's one of the main gripes I've heard (along with the B17 Bomber enemy meme) in that there's no simple "play offline/solo" option and it's slightly hidden in the options when you select play/continue/load/etc. The main reason for the connection to the internet (besides co-op) is the update to the events/etc.

Yeah, I don’t have a PS+ account yet so I’ve only played it solo. It still connects to the net and tells me what other players are joining and leaving my session, but I can’t actually make groups with them. There are other features like Guild Cards and the limited time events and bounties that you pick up from having that online connection though.

I've been a MH fan since the beginning, I dont remember playing as a team/group being that rewarding. The recent gripes on the Xbox MH group has me thinking that Solo is the only way to play.

You share the reward money and faints with the group which is a huge disadvantage to people responding to SOS's and helping other players. Also when someone joins your game the Monster's health increases.

I can kill Nergigante by myself but with friends 2+ it gets a little ridiculous. Still on the hunt for that Nerg Gem!

For the new comers the MH I'd say push through the story until you get to High Rank 6+ star missions. The gear is way better and the real game only begins from there.

I've been dreading the Harded Bagel Geese mission, I want to finish my dual blade build first.

I finally hit my 100 hour mark last night, I took a couple nights off to watch Altered Carbon and didnt feel like giving myself anxiety fighting Nergigante anymore.

The real thing that turns off my interest in investing in multi player is that apparently the people in your group can stop you from carving the fallen monster by just Attacking you repeatedly to interupt you, which is just stupid.

That rarely happens, but happens nonetheless. The majority of the community is friendly. Usually the first couple of monster slayings are responding to low level SOS even though I'm High Rank. Killed the Diablos and Rathalos to many times to count, usually sell the bits for extra money. Its a nice way to warm up.

I've played with some strict people like if you play with this weapon you have this assigned role, which is a little annoying.

I understand that to a degree. Nothing like a random messing up your hunt because instead of sleep bombing/letting the GS user hit the monster, they go and hit it with their little SnS.

(for those that don't know, sleep monsters take 2-3x (I forget) from the first attack that hits them while sleeping)

In earlier games it was 3x if damaged by a bomb, 2x if damaged by something else. Not sure if it's different in Worlds, I haven't sleep bombed in it yet.

Telling people you're sleep bombing and what they should do is always a good idea. Not everyone is a MH vet.

Having everyone in chat or knowing the players helps, but that is not always the case.

If its my friend and I, Ill be a dick and slinger ammo it just to peeve him off. We usually wait until everyone is ready in the group.

Does anyone know if the monster scaling increases with each person added or just one lump some between solo and multiplayer?

Apparently it's just two values: an amount for solo and an amount for multiplayer. So once someone joins, the monsters' HP jumps up to multiplayer amounts.

I've been enjoying the game. Working my way through the 6 star optional quests after reaching HR. Zorah was my first completed armor set. I started the game with the Longsword but converted over to the Switch Axe, and I'm considering the Hunting Horn as well.

Beat Nergigante tonight. Took three tries to beat the quest.

For armor, I love the Red Doggo armor set. I think it might be my favorite looking set, and it’s got good skills to boot. Subbed out the gauntlets for a pair of Rathian ones for the Poison Attack 2, as I primarily use the Pueki line of SnS, with a Poison Attack gem to max that skill off.

i play with a crap load of randoms via SOS flares and Ive never seen this happen. The only real point of frustration i get in multi player is people that are out to kill a monster and either dont want to / dont know how / or arent prepared to trap it

I know the pro's and con's of trapping monsters, but would rather kill it, it is monster hunter, not monster trapper after all

I've had the pleasure of being stopped mid carve by some randos. I've been on this feeling nice kick and have been helping Low Rank people, I'm also in need of more Zenny so I get something out of it. I usually end up knocking that person around and let the other players get their cuts in. I use the Great Sword and do the back hand attack to knock them up.

I've been joining players like gunners doing diablos and they will leave mid fight, I'm not sure why but its annoying

Back to the top with this one!

The PC release is slated for the 9th of August and I'm debating whether or not to get it.

I've been burned out on MH to be honest. I was at the 195 hour mark, so I got my moneys worth. The recent releases haven't peeked my interest. I'm only HR 49 too, but the grind got to me, The monsters didnt become challenging enough. There are the outliers like Temp Kirin.

I hope they add more old world monsters. I killed the Pickle fairly quickly and 2 manned it Tempered on release day.

Maybe I'll jump on for fun this weekend.

Wish I'd known this was here. I'd have been hanging out a lot more.

So here's a question for ya'all....

If the Monsters used weapons... What sort of weapons would they use?

Personally, I think Anjanath would be a Greatsword user. He's got the shoulder charge, the 3-strike charge combo, and everything.

Barroth, I think, would probably be a Lancer. And Kulu-ya-ku to, maybe? But a silly Lance user.

GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

If yer an Ork, why dont ya WAAAGH!!

Played it for few hours and got bored. It did not click. I was doing single-player maybe that's why but I did not feel the vibe.

I hopped back on yesterday after a couple of months away. The current winter event encourages helping the lowbies. And there's a new set of weapons that are pretty clearly designed to provide a simple path for new players to get gear that's level-appropriate for the start of Iceborne.

I also managed to take down Barioth (not to be confused with Barroth), allowing me to start moving forward again with the Iceborne plot.

Kinda lost interest after I got the Platin trophy after some really hard farming.
In the end there were a few tricks to make it way faster but still, quite time consuming.

Sometimes I go in for some quick hunts or if there are cool events like Behemoth.
