So assuming a non-codex chapter player uses unit from the codex, what point costs they should use, index or codex?

It depends. If it's a unit that is entirely replaced in the codex, such as a Rhino or Primaris Lieutenants, you use the codex. If it's an entry that links back to something earlier in the index (such as a Wolf Lord using the Captain datasheet) you use the index, since there is no newer "Wolf Lord" entry.

So, does DW benefit from cheaper power fists using the SM Codex...? All DW weapon costs are clearly shared excluding the Storm Shield which is explicitly priced for DW.

No, you use index only for anything that doesn't have a 1:1 replacement in the codex. For Deathwatch this means the first 11 entries on page 171 use the codex rules and points costs, the Watch Captains and the other Deathwatch Exclusive units use the index, as these are the latest rules for each of those entries.

Please note this is how I understand it given the vague and contradictory nature of the community webpages statements on the matter, this is subject to change when an official FAQ ruling comes out.

Apologies for the necro, but I've read this thread twice now and I'm still a little confused as to whether Power Fists cost 12 or 20 for Deathwatch. :(

Unless Deathwatch are in the Codex, you would use the points listed in the index.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
