Long time no update.
I have some pics saved, some hobby progress to catalogue.
Been busy here.
Got invited to Norway then the Netherlands for some seminars.
Holidays back here, then holiday and fam stuff, some papers out and others edited.
Finally got some hobby time after getting this room redone last couple weeks.
So, gonna post back with pics and so on but for now,
PAINT STRIPPING.
In So Korea it isn't easy to find stuff.
Odd stuff is banned (alpha lipoic acid, for example,
wtf? who tf knows, frankly... just .... odd.).
Odd stuff is availlable.
Case in point,
PB-1, a general purpose household cleaner available super cheap at the So Korean Japanese import version of the dollar store, Daiso.
Stuff is nasty.
Alkylphenol being its active ingredient, plus god knows what else.
It is (was, until sensible people found safer alternatives) a popular degreasr and so on,
and as Super purple stuff or whatver is often a popular paint stripper,
I took the advice of a fellow local hobbyist and gave this shyte a shot.
NOT recommended.
Availability, A+.
Paint stripping efficacy, B-.
Throat stripping efficacy, A.
Used the
PB-1 to try to rescue a gunked chimera.
Throat roached, nothing built and nothing painted, one afternoon lost and maybe a year of life lost to poisons.
Not worth it.
Being a chem major and havin worked in lots of very ugly places, I have seen worse.
This stuff is toxic. Nasty. Not recommended.
Of course, here, it is marketed for cleaning toilets and the pic on the front of the bottle is of a sink, so sure, spray it around kids and whatnot, this endocrine disrupting tumor inducing bioaccumulating water toxic nast.
Oy, vey.
At the local pharmacy, one can get 83% ethanol, not isopropyl but ethanol.
Tried that, and it leaves paint rubbery not easily removed - need a more potent distillation.
I have not been able to find denatured 90+percent alcohol.
Lots of enamel strippers, lacquer thinners, OK.
PB-1, is.... tragic.
If in So
KO and in need of stripping, brake fluid reigns if toxins are involved regardless.
If you have a suggestion, please, ...
lemme know.
