Ah, see so it is okay to call out falsehoods, when you do it. Anyone else is just falling for bait. You are a gem. And I don't think Rancidhate was referring to "natural kids" as people having natural childbirth, but rather non-vaccinated children. Correct me if I am wrong, Rancid.

Based on the news I've heard, hasn't the entire western half of the country been on fire since I was like, in high school over ten years ago?

It's either on fire or winter, IIRC.

I've lived in both the city and the country. Not in the US obviously, but I doubt it's much different.

Anyhow, in my experience a lot of people in the country spend a lot of time attacking people who live in the cities. There's a real culture of resentment there, and almost no awareness of the irony in common sentiments like 'people in the city think x about us and that's not fair'.

In contrast, I've never seen anything close to resentment or hostility in people in the city. I think that is pretty much a fantasy of country people. This isn't because people in the cities are saints or anything, but because people in the cities don't really think of people in the country all that much at all. And when they do it's generally positive, but extremely patronising, they see them either as 'salt of the earth', or as collapsing towns defined by unemployment and drug addiction.

There's a lot generalising there, of course, I only mean to describe what I've noticed in a very general, population as a whole kind of thing.

This echos my experience. Driving through Arizona we saw a number of "Not Cal" bumper stickers. Someone slashed our tires at a grocery store parking lot, and an acquaintance suggested it was because of the California plates. When I inquired, I found out that many Arizonans, at least in the Prescott area, believe they are in some sort of culture war with Californians. The feeling is not mutual...since who bothers to think about Arizona?

Evidently all the damn Kalifornians who moved there.
Texas is wise. We erected the Great Taco Wall to surround Austin and turn it into the California Quarantine Zone. Georgetown, keeping Texas safe from the Zombie, er California menace since 1987.

As an update, did the fires stop there? I heard on CNN it was actually snowing in Montana.

I think you're definitely seeing some kind of personal attack where I didn't intend one, and if I was unclear, then I apologize - I was laughing with your earlier comment, not at you.

Actually, sadly, I was referring to people specifically around the Union Square / West Village section of NYC that really do believe people should adopt instead of procreating. Not all of NYC is like that though.

Also... we have steered this away from the original topic to the point where I wouldn't even be upset if I got an infraction but, Montana is on fire and we already forgot... inside of 2 pages.

Correct. San Francisco native here; how could I hate people that, even now, I'm only about 20% sure actually exist?

In August I spent a week driving from Houston to the Bay Area, stopping at every major Texas city and a few places in New Mexico. My opinion of the country could be summed up as: how the feth do you live in this weather, wow you're very polite and also a bit casually racist".

And that's about it.

Yes, there are parts that now have snow, and are still burning. The east finally had enough rain to put down or at least manage a lot of the fires here, but the snow in the west is problematic. Snow can seemingly smother the fire only to have the fire start up again after snow melt. Something I learned from a firefighter recently.

Please don't remind me about that. People, in general, are just dumb enough to think that is an actual representation of Montana. All because of some retards who decided to call themselves the "Freeman" and act slowed.

They move into the Western part of the state because they think the trees and mountains are pretty, build giant houses and mansions, and stay for the most part about 4 years before moving back when they finally realize winters here are a LOT colder and meaner than what they are used to. Not all but most seem to do that. Culture shock also plays a part. Montana tends to be quite conservative.

They fail to see the beauty of the badlands with the rock formations and striations, so they avoid the east. Part of the reason why the western part of the state is exploding in growth.

But that's just being an annoying prat, and that's unfortunately a universal human trait, whether its people moving to the country and complaining about country noises or people moving to the city and complaining about traffic and all the people everywhere. It isn't the cultural resentment that was claimed earlier in the thread as something city people are supposed to have against country people.

OP - Sorry to hear Montana is burning un-restrained but this is how you deal with large wild fires in small populations centers anyways. You just let them burn out and evacuate the few people who are affected. It sucks - but it's a natural disaster - sucking is inevitable.

Unrelated question - how is internet speed there?

I mean, I have seen the opposite too. Recently had a cousin who lived in the country had to move in with me and my mom. He bitched how he cant fly his flag in the window(HOA says no flags or anything that isnt white blinds) How im not working hard enough and dont have a real job because "You sit and play board games with kids and you dont even work 60 hours a week and come home tired" how he hates everything about california.
The pendulum swings both ways.

That depends on the fire, the resources available and the proximity to risk areas. What this means in most cases is that fires, even in low population areas, are responded to with something between elimination and strict containment. It's extremely rare that a fire is left to burn without any kind of control.

I see a possible increase in the price of beef. Montana has a lot cattle ranchers. As well as sheep, wheat, and other crops. A lot of what was burned also included farming and ranching land. Sadly, a lot of the fires would never have been the problem they became if more help would have been sent. The biggest offenders being the local state and federal government. Montana's own legislatures let it down, and the eastern part of the state was pretty much ignored. They remember the east when it comes tax time and when they are pretty much stealing from the funds of eastern Montana (especially the places with coal and oil). About two years ago our current governor took the money that was supposed to go to repairing eastern montana's schools and infrastructure which to be quite honest, in really bad shape. I am not trying to get political, but Governor Bullock needs to go. I say that having voted for him.

On another note a lot of our tourism revenue is down due to the fires and will probably be down for years to come. We have received very little financial aid from the government with the message bugger off. And the governor wants to tax the ever living brown matter out of us while having little plans for cutting back anywhere else. With how the taxes tend to go with it all being pushed on the homeowner usually, I might have to see about selling my house and renting as it is getting completely ridiculous. End semi political rant as both sides of the line are part of the problem. Swear they two parties only ever get together to bend people over the desk.

New Mexico is not a state. Its a tiny rad filled mutie deathworld. Even vampires steer clear of there. New Mexico, where even killer drop bears fear to tread.
