Horror films. Budget horror/slashers are very formulaic and easy to keep track of even if you're not watching closely.

Listen to music, particulary soundtracks to certain films, or I will put on Digitally Imported. The other method is turning on the Blue-Ray and binge watch while assembling and painting.

I typically have some wargaming related youtube video on in the backgroud either Tabletop minions or a batrep. If not that then watching netflix or listening to music although I did just buy the dune and dark tower audiobooks so that may be what I do tonight.

I fully agree and support your Dark Tower decision it's flippin' amazing

Well, as I now joined Netflix, I now listen to Star Trek The next generation in addition to all other things. Lots of things to do while paining

Otherwise it's music, whatever strikes my fancy that particular night; I have CDs ranging from Alabama to Metallica to LL Cool J to Stevie Ray Vaughn.....

Me too, although I find myself having to rewind because I wasn't paying attention.

HJistory of the World in 100 Objects is worth a listen if that's not already on your list, too.

Thanks, I'll add it to my list.

I listen to CD's, while I love the painting side of things sometimes I don't know if that in itself is just an excuse for me to sit in my Nerd room surrounded by my Nerd stuff and just turn up my stereo for the day while I try and achieve painted goodness! as far as actual genres I have a very eclectic mix of music tastes ranging from Hip Hop, Rock, Metal, Funk and a bit of Boom Bap Rap also sometimes I'll whack on a comedy CD if I've found one like the 12th Man or some old Mick Malloy Radio shows.

Probably work

Depends on the mood. Sometimes I'll listen to music, typically something ambient or classical. Other times I'll listen to an episode of Tim Ferriss's podcast. Other times I'll look for an MST3K (the old ones) or Rifftrax to half-way watch while painting.

If I've got some long running tests for work or anything I'm doing after hours work related, I'll paint during the downtime.

One thing that I've had to learn more than once, NEVER listen or watch comedies while painting. It seems like every time I get to some extreme detail work the punchline gets told and I have to fight laughing or screw up a model.

Youtube 'Let's Play' videos are good as they really aren't worth your full attention anyway. I mostly watch the 'Two Best friends play' as they can sometimes be pretty funny. Though only the two main guys, the other two who sometimes appear are totally inane. I actually now pretty much associate modelling/painting with these sorts of vids. There's some newer channels that also do overly long boring video reviews of computer games, they're good background noise as well, 'Joseph Anderson' is the main one.

Sometimes podcasts mostly Joe Rogan as they're usually really long, he gets a good variety of guests with some entertaining regulars and, fair play to him, he's an excellent host. I listen to A TON of podcasts though and kinda have to 'save' them for exercise, commutes/travel and playing computer games (got tired of Game audio after listening to the Mount and Blade music for a little too long haha)

When I paint I normaly listen to music of some sort, or turn on the local radio stations and let them drone on in the background. Or I put on a audio book of some sort and let that go on

I either typically:

1) Listen to podcasts on YouTube- specifically & mostly Steve & Larson's Going In Raw, Wrestling with Wregret or Tabletop Minions. I prefer longer ones so I don't have to get up and put another one on too often. I also have a Folder filled with Jon Richardson and Russ Howard's podcasts that I'm slowly working my way through.

2) Listen to documentaries recorded on the cable box (or netflix). Mostly stuff like Forensic Files, Joe Kenda Homicide Hunter, FBI Files and the like.

3) Listen to music - either MP3s on my PC, Music Video Channel on the TV or YouTube. Eclectic taste, depends on mood and if I'm putting stuff on or letting the channels run. yadda yadda. Come on Eileen is on the TV right now, and I'm happy to listen to it on the Music vid channel but wouldn't choose to put the MP3 on (if I even had it).

I'll usually put on a multi-hour music mix on Youtube, something I can leave playing without getting interrupted by ads or needing to start up a new video. Right now, these are my favourites:

That's the same reason I watch TV series. As long as it's not something terribly complex (like Game of Thrones) TV series tend to go much slower than movies with only a few plot points to keep track of in a given episode.

They also go for a long duration if you binge watch them. I dunno about you guys but I can only paint, like, half a model over the course of an average length movie, maybe 2 to 4 models if I happen to be speed painting them, it took me the entire Harry Potter series to paint a single regiment of Night Goblins TV series on the other hand are slow and drawn out, perfect for painting.

For whatever reason I don't really like listening to music when I paint.

I usually watch my YouTube reviewer/editorial channels. If not that, then some old sitcom or TV series on Netflix or DVD. Something familiar, sometimes informative, but always a way to prevent silence. I don't know what it is about silence, but it's like I can hear it; I almost always have to have some background noise or white noise going.

There was a time I listened to nothing but Queen and ELO and other classic rock bands. That was fun

Since obtaining a man cave, I no longer watch tv downstairs, and no longer watch anything I haven't already seen loads of times, so for me it's repeats of classic comedies or Doctor Who's (not new Who) Also watch a lot of battle reports

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples

I usually put on some New Wave Synth albums to listen to while painting. Perfect for painting 40k as the music is very apt to the birth of it in the 80's.

If you want to listen, try anything by Pertubator, Lazerhawk, Mega Drive and Power Glove. They are IMHO some of the best. Also, try the YouTube channel New Wave Retro, as they have a huge selection of singles.

I used to watch a movie or a TV series on the side. But i found that to be too distracting. Now i listen to 40k pod cast’s or some other audio only stuff.
