The whole Imperium celebrates Sanguinala to honor Sanguinius.

Hey, you’re forgetting the other winter solstice tradition, Slaaneshmas.

Link is pretty freaking NSFW: https://youtu.be/sqFmt9XYeYo

That's not f****** canon.

OH YES IT IS DONT SPOIL MY SLAANESHMAS WITH YOUR NONCANON TECHNOCALITIES ALL I WANTED WAS A GOOD SLAANESHMASS AND NOW STUPID. STUPID. STUPID.

All joking aside though there’s probably still a Christmas like night in 40k.

Maybe, maybe not, it's worth noting that during the middle ages Christmas did not have the prominance it does today, Easter was seen as the actual "important Holiday" I suspect the IoM is much the same given the notable imperium wide holidays referance the emperor ascending and Sanguinis dying. both of which are Martyrdoms.

They don't have easter or christmas. In fact, whatever traditions earth had in the past have no bearing on the year 40,000.

Though Sanguinala is probably the best of the Imperial holidays.

... And no, that thing is not canon. Chaos "gods" are vehemently against all fun and that is why we must destroy them.

He said christmas "like" I mentioned Easter because it's worth noting comparitivly that chances are easter like holidays in the IoM are proably more important. with a heavy focus on "he sacrificed himself for you
! you're not worthy of the sacrifice but you better make it count OR FIRE AND BRIIIIIME STONE!"

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

There are uncountable trillions of humanity, across a million worlds; almost every question about culture is best answered with "probably somewhere, probably not somewhere else".

Check out the book "The Carrion Throne." The story takes place on Terra in the lead-up to a big religious holiday which is not only a work-stopping (!) holiday for Terra in the sense that we celebrate holidays today, but countless ships from offworld are dropping off religious pilgrims who are hoping to visit the warp gate much like pious Muslims might make the pilgrimage to Mecca and the Kaaba.

The book touches on different aspects of the holiday: it is global and universal; every street as one gets closer and closer to the palace becomes clogged with crowds people being dosed with drugs to drive them further into hallucinogenic religious visions and a drunken fervor; there's a feverish sense of the social pressure valve being released just for a moment especially for the lowest rungs of Imperial Society; there's a big hierarchical procession of military might; merely witnessing the event is enough to make someone a figure of some spiritual noteworthiness back in their own homeworld after they return.

I don't know which other holidays are sketched out in other books but it seems logical that there'd be other holidays besides just this one. Given the weird hybrid of feudalism and industrialized fascism that characterizes the Imperium, you could easily presume that citizens might have something like a medieval Book of Hours with assorted proverbs and holidays noted. It seems in line with most representations of the Imperium that you'd want periodic organized public displays of devotion and loyalty given how group-oriented their society is.

Given that the etymology of holiday is a contraction of holy day, and given that the Imperium is the biggest theocracy ever devised, I think they will probably have a few. Whether people get any time off from work or prayers is a rather different matter.

From Knight Commander Pask's fluff text:

Pask had the driver swing around and executed the Ork war engine with a single pinpoint blast of lascannon fire. The Battle Fortress went up like the Saint Vanus Day fireworks

I want to vaguely remember that they still practice holiday traditions, albeit with out the religious or superstitious stuff. But i could have sworn there was a book i read that made mention of a holiday on earth similar to Christmas. Anyone know for sure?

For your Christmas one, I can't recall any off-hand.

However, from the Novel Rynn's World, the entirety of the Crimson Fists Space Marines chapter has returned to Rynn's World to celebrate some holiday who's name escapes me.

I would also imagine that a number of planets celebrate a "Founding Day" when the colony first landed on the planet. Perhaps also an Imperium Day when they were brought back into the light of the Emperor. Emperor's Ascendancy day (AKA, Worst Father's Day Ever) is probably a somber event.

Sanguinala, Emperor's Ascension, any local holidays.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.
