Squad sizes I try to run as large as I can. I run RG tactics most often so that makes them pretty durable. I usually start with 10 man squads and then if I need the points elsewhere then I cut. Never do less than 2 ablative wounds plus the sarge though. Sometimes this means only 2 heavies in a squad.

The Signum is better than the Sally tactic if you are looking at multi-shot weapons. Specifically Plasma-cannons and Grav-cannons. On Missiles, Lascannons, and Multi-meltas it isn't though. That being said of course both is the best overall.

A decent alternative to ablative wounds are transports. Keeps them safe against an Alpha strike, then you hit them with a beta strike. Of course you will need more redundancy due to less chance of hitting. I prefer going ablative wounds instead.
