you should have seen the other place, I would not park there in the dark, I used to live in Detroit and Baltimore and found this place sketchy.

UK stores are open Weds-Sun, 12-6.

And if a store isn't profitable, seems it gets shut down.

Now we can comment till the cows come home on this one. But ultimately, we're not GW. We don' have the same data as them to say whether it works or not.

But given they continue to roll it out.....I'd say it is working. Which is rubbish for me because it lead to my redundancy in 2010, and loss of discount!

My current local GW is 10 - 6 seven days a week and has three people (with at least two people working per day) and that's just an outlet. They've expanded Fridays to 8pm to allow for gaming.

Always felt that having a single employee in a store aimed at teenagers is a child protection issue. How they’ve gone this long without an accusation being made, true or false, I don’t know. I would assume that they make their employees go through a basic DBS check. If not, that is a bit worrying.

Also there's loads of retail outlets that work with only one or two staffers. In fact many small shops have only one person serving at any one time; there just isn't the demand for more than one person to work there.

True, but GW largely targets minors for customers, which means staffers are frequently in the store alone with children, for long periods of time givn some stores are a hangout for gamers.

I assume they undergo DBS check but that only finds people who have convictions, and plenty of offenders do not. It’s better than nothing to make the check, but your responsibilities don’t end there.

In short?

GW stores aren’t there to service the gaming needs of existing customers anymore. They’re recruitment stations.

^ this.

I cant see those tiny broom closets as recruitment centers, especially when they are in such sketchy places.

My local GW hasn't been a recruitment centre since they moved away from a high foot traffic area to an out of the way area, which was many years ago now.

I also don't really see a high proportion of minors in there since they moved as well. Just the existing customers, most of which are in their 20's and early 30's.

Would be amazed if they didn't, the shops also all have CCTV

My local GW has a little sticker on the door saying it's an approved Duke of Edinburgh location.

When I did my Duke of Edinburgh back in the day all assesses were background checked before hand to protect the kids.

These days I think any employer who has employees who even might come into contact with children will have them DBS checked at the very least.
