I'm easily distracted, but the Big Mek was calling to me. His right arm was in the paint shop when I took these photos (it's drying now), and I haven't decided what to put in the left arm -- I may magnetize that one so I can swap out choppa for something shootier (or choppier for that matter) if the fancy takes me.

So I present... Meka-G (sans arms)

Da Mekaniak Himself:

Da Kustom Force Field Generator:

Sadly the legs interfere with the on/off switch, he has to lift his leg to turn it off.

Back of the power pack:

Close-up of the glowy-thing (which I did a terrible paint job on and will likely revisit), the access panel, and assorted switches and indicators.

Git 'em, Grotz!

And lastly another project that is going to take years to complete... I figured out what I wanted to do for Boyz and Nobz. Here are a few Boyz in shackles (chains will be added when i find some tiny chain), the "Boss Nob" will likely be a squig-riding Grot with a whip, though I'm not ruling out a smaller exosuited Grot.

Why is it I scrape the mold-lines off (I swear! I did!) but invariably after I paint it and take a picture... wait, what's that mold line doing there?

Got a combi-skorcha arm built for Meka-G, and magnetized his left shoulder so I can do weapon-swaps. Won't be able to prime until thursday though, so it'll be the weekend before he's done.

Hopefully I'll get pics of the whole thing up in this weekend, but in the meanwhile -- I realize he's full of egregious issues, but If y'all could suggest one thing to focus on improving for the next model , what would it be?

That big mek is looking great! I really like the purple and white checks.

Thanks, Valhund! Here he is with arms (1 still needs paint... i hit it with primer this evening, so paint will have to wait until tomorrow). The black arm has a 3/8" steel ball bearing at the shoulder that sticks to magnets embedded in GS in the hip/shoulder joint. I carried the purple-check theme onto the right arm, haven't decided if I want to do the same on the left or not yet.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I was going to put hydraulics on the left arm, but the burna-tank fit nicely where I was planning to mount them, plus I ended up not actually having a lower arm to actuate other than the kombi-skorcha itself.

The skorcha half is from a burna-boy bit (tank plus burna, with the ork arm cut off) and the shoota-bit was also cut from a boy's arm. If I had it to do over I might use a big shoota rather than a regular shoota, but I suspect this won't be the last kombi-skorcha I ever build. (Meka-G's partner in crime will need one at the very minimum).

Thanks Cleatus, Commissar! He's got plenty of warts, but I'm pleased for a first go at this sort of thing. Not satisfied with the paint on his skorcha arm so it's back in the paint shop, but today was Red Solo Walker day. 3 legs are in progress, and the body is all rivetty... I made a shoulder joint ala the Big Mek so I can swap out the gun, but I'll probably build the Kan-Klaw arm as fixed.

I'm not entirely pleased with my 'styrene' round/square extrusions, but they were cheap and for the price I can make do. The bonds take a long time to dry, though, so I don't know that I'll have time to do leg hydraulics tonight (got the 3-piece legs assembled though.

I'll get pictures of those later when my daughter gets in, but for now a couple of gratuitous TankBusta shots... The two on the left (in the first picture) were originally destined to be the Rokkit Launcha on my Trukk, but I may base them instead and use them as Tankbustas. You'll just have to imagine the wick coming out of the back of that rokkit (and his buddy with the torch is lighting it). Forgive the odd angles and poor focus, I'll get better pics once I mount them. The other was a purpose-made tankbusta -- I didn't see Comissar Khaine's tankbustawalkers in time to steal that idea, so I'm going to finish out this squad simply as rokkit-armed gretchin. I only had one rokkit from my boyz and that's earmarked for a tankhammer (I lost that gretchin's right arm, or i'd be painting it for the Feb contest, "carry a big stick"), but I'm thinking of ordering some rockets from Red Dog Minis once the hobby budget refreshes.

Got a little time to work on the kan -- I need to find the battery charger for my drill so I can finish the legs (I have to drill out the tube to slip the rod in for the hydraulics), so I worked on the arms... the rokkit launcher is magnetized and can come off for use on the Big Mek if so desired, or for replacement with a KMB or something.

Forgive the bad photos, my kindle's camera is awful.

Rocket-Pod is made out of pieces f\from a set of Russian Aircraft Weapons that I thought was 1/72 but it was actually 1/32 -- oops! The rockets are enormous, but I'm planning to cut off the tips of some of them and build some bomms etc. with the pieces.

Where did you get the ATV's and tractors? I need those wheelz in my life!

Ra - The tractors and I think also the ATVs came from Dollar General, though I found a smaller tractor about the size of the ATVs at Wal-Mart. I would stroll through the toy aisles every time I hit either of those stores until my stash exceeded what I will build in the near future.

Thanks Aetur, Commisar, Werewo! Unfortunately this was "clean the garage" weekend so not alot of work got done on this front, though I did get some primer on the Kan and got the rokkit arm primered and sprayed it with a purple basecoat.

This guy's about ready for the paint shop... I'm not happy with the magnetization though, the arm flops over way too easily. I have tiny little magnets, it might work better with larger ones, or I may need to add a pin rather than allowing the ball-joint to articulate. He also needs a KMB arm, but I think I'll paint him up first.
Terrible lighting, so forgive the pics, but I wanted to go ahead and get a snapshot before painting starts.

Thanks, Aetare. I had to go look up what the admech stuff looks like -- spider legs FTW!

I haven't been able to build much lately (my wife objects to the plastic cement odor, and I haven't got a workbench set up in the garage yet) so it's been paint time. I need to get a decent photo booth set up, but here are a couple of awful pics of a completed (for now) lobba. The parts have been waiting for paint for a long time, but building was more fun. The kan has got a basecoat of purple on the body and gunmetal (with a bit of black ink) on the legs, but I'm waiting until I finish painting to get pics of him.

You can't see it in these awful pics, but I played around a little trying to put some rust spots from water-drips on the carriage for this one. I need a source for affordable wheels though -- the 3D printed ones are almost adequate, but mostly because the wheels are just black so you can't see the print lines. If I tried to do any sort of highlighting on them I fear the print lines would jump out like a sore thumb.

Not bad at azll! The rust is quite nice, experiment with stippling on a brighter orange if you want it to pop, or use weathering powders. Check out Meer_cat's or Dsteingass's blogs, they both did step-by-steps. Also, consider adding rivets; either from a mould, or sliced up plastic rod, or.. whatever works for you. They really add tot he detail once you start taking a closer look.

Also: shouldn't this be getting moved to the p&m blogs by now?

Anyway, thanks for sharing and hope to see more. These would be SOOOO welcome on my groups tables.

Been awhile, guys -- sorry for not keeping up! I was working on some infantry for awhile (grot kommandoes, a lonely balloon travelling stormgrot), and got some fun robogear stuff for christmas. I built up a Mad Bull and added some extra arms for a Deff Dredd (no pics yet, but he's assembled and PIP with the exception of a pilot -- haven't decided how to handle the cockpit yet). I feel a little odd calling it a "conversion" since it's like 90% stock robogear -- I just extended the arms (their walkers have stubby little arms) and added a second pair (who only puts 2 arms on their walkers? Silly 'umies). I love the poseability, and the mad-bull style chassis just feels so very orky to me. It doesn't actually fit on a 60mm base, but that just means it gets a fun action pose!

I'm also working on a dakkajet or 2. Unfortunately my base models are too small at 1/72 (hellcat and tomahawk -- I almost sprung for the Junkers since it was the orkiest of the bunch but it was twice the $$ and now that I've seen the scale I'm kind of glad I didn't -- I think it might be a touch bigger since I believe the junkers was a larger plane than either of these, but I doubt it stretches to actual dakkajet dimensions).

Now the dilemma -- Do I just accept that my model is 'too small' (~6x6.5 vice ~7.25x9.75) but make sure I model it at the proper height off the table and hope that it doesn't impact LOS much, or do I mount BOTH jets on the same base with 3 supa-shootas each. I thought about having it tow a banner that says "Dakka!" to increase it's LOS footprint. 6 ridiculously large guns on a smallish platform does sound like a very orky thing to do, but the Dakka-Skwadron also sounds like fun!

Also undecided on how to model the supa-shootas. You can see one of the options in the WIP pic, I'm also thinking of putting a gatling-gun in the nose where the prop goes. I need to perform some surgery to get the other half of that jet out of it's robogear chassis, and that will stuck onto the plane (probably on top, but still not 100% sure I don't want it on bottom) with some struts and rivets, maybe a fuel line (and maybe even a 50gal fuel drum strapped to the bottom of the plane for giggles).

Anyhow -- hoping to get back to this stuff and post more often. Comments/Suggestions/Criticism always welcome!

P.S. Pics of my Dredd to come, maybe tonight.

Deff Dredd as promised -- a little big for a Dredd, honestly, but it doesn't feel like a 'naut to me at all.

Paint in progress -- not especially happy with the white but I'm kinda digging the metal bits. needs more rust though.

Bit skinny for a 'naut, but it'll make a brilliant dread . For rust, have you tried weathering powders? They're pretty easy to use and produce great effects.

Progress on the dakkajet -- I started to greenstuff the cracks from cutting the jet out of it's chassis, and was struck with a thought... "wait... this was looted by ORKS... don't fix it, patch it! and believe in it!" so instead of fixing them I threw some plasticard patches at it .

Needs more rivets, needs more dakka -- i've tentatively decided to use 3 of the double-barreled gun you can see in one of the photos mounted on the underside, along with a 50gal fuel drum.

Forgive the poor quality pics, next time I'll steal the boy's phone since his has a better camera than mine.

Now with more cowbell dakka! The camera got better, but the photographer still sucks. Anyhow, it's got gunz! The grot pilot needs some goggles and a scarf (my greenstuff skills are likely not up to the task, but I'm gonna give it a whirl anyways) and the jet itself needs some iconography and fuel drums yet.

Loving that stuck on engine! For goggles, a greenstuff 'band' with little beads pressed into it works a treat. For the rim of the goggles, plasticard tubing might help out if sliced really thinly?

Thanks, CK!

I was planning to use sliced plasticard tubing, i hadn't thought about little beads though. Any tips/tutorials on painting goggles or lenses? I've seen some amazing paintjobs and haven't a clue on how to go about doing those right.

Got the iconography and fuel barrels on, need to run the fuel line and add barrel straps then I think it'll be time for priming. Unfortunately I only had one "dakka" glyph in the right size that survived the laser-cutting-experiment, but I really don't think the Orks care that much about symmetry anyways .

Ink pen tube (the inner tube) and a small nail or push pin pushed inside the tube makes for a decent set of goggles. I've used that one a few times. As for the Dakkajet you could of cut the plane into quarters and stretched it out a smidge, that would allow you the opportunity to orkify some repairs as well. Because it does look a tad small. Though I love the engine bolted haphazardly on top, that I'd suitably Ork. Add a mess of exhaust pipes and really that should be that
